Which spelling mistakes really grate with you?

Maybe it should be 'what', not 'which'. Anyways..

-aircrafts. Grrr! The plural of aircraft is 'aircraft', not 'aircrafts'. Even aviation companies make this mistake. No excuse.

BTW, I know spelling isn't easy for some so let's keep this light hearted.

Isn’t it “great”? Just kidding!

rainbowsparkle28 · 24/07/2025 11:32

“Would/could/should of” - IT IS HAVE, NOT OF (it even autocorrected me when trying to write this!) Grates on me every time!
That and the wrong their/there/they’re 😩🫣😂

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 24/07/2025 11:33

His instead of he’s

SAbs86 · 24/07/2025 11:35

Your and you're

DiscoBob · 24/07/2025 11:37

I find the use of the word 'fruits' quite annoying. Like, the plural of fruit is fruit. Why add an S?

My boss did this when she was trying to boast about how generous they were because we were getting a box of 'fruits' delivered each week for free consumption. I don't know why, it just sounds so fucking wank!

GeorgeTheFirst · 24/07/2025 11:38

Loose instead of lose

TitaniasAss · 24/07/2025 11:38

I'm so sorry OP, this will sound awful but I hate 'anyways' instead of anyway. 🤣

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 24/07/2025 11:41

Angle rather than Angel.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 24/07/2025 11:42

'Dose anyone know...?' See it all over Facebook.

'It's thunder and lightening here.' Well, good to know the clouds are clearing I suppose.

girljulian · 24/07/2025 11:44

Not exactly a spelling mistake but when people don’t know the difference between lay and lie

Woweehooha · 24/07/2025 11:46

Sneak peak when it should be peek

mummytomumtobro · 24/07/2025 11:49

I absolutely hate it when people write “carnt” instead of “can’t”. My Facebook is full of it and my mum and brother do it all the time.

Judiezones · 24/07/2025 11:50

I can't bare it.
(You can bare it, but maybe not in polite company. You mean you can't bear it).

Are instead of our.

Would/could/should/might of.

There, their, they're.

LittleMi55Nobody · 24/07/2025 11:50

DESPATCHED....its bloody dispatched

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/07/2025 11:51

Ect. It is an abbreviation of et cetera. In what world does that make 'ect' right?

mondaytosunday · 24/07/2025 11:52

Never seems ‘aircrafts’, normally airplanes.
Not really spelling but hate ‘ect’ instead of ‘etc’.
Plus the usual there their and your you’re.

TheMeasure · 24/07/2025 11:52

People who write “tow” the line when it should be “toe.”
Tow makes no sense.
And ‘free reign’ when it is free REIN (as in a horse’s bridle, letting them run)

YourBrickTiger · 24/07/2025 11:53

I'm from Ireland and instead of saying you all, we say youse or youseuns. But when people SPELL this on FB - argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And 'ano' instead of saying 'I know'.

TizerorFizz · 24/07/2025 11:54

Gotten. Your instead or you’re. Just about anything spelt USA way!

DiscoBob · 24/07/2025 11:54

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 24/07/2025 11:33

His instead of he’s

The other way round is worse I think. Both awful though. I mean in speech I get that his can be pronounced a bit like he's, but to write it wrong is horrendous!

Scarecrow16 · 24/07/2025 11:54

Wondering instead of wandering. Wonder = Thinking /Questioning. Wander = travelling / moving.

This is mine too, it’s very American and drives me a bit nuts. There are more American habits like that that wind me up but I can think of any right now.

Words that are run together when they should be separate.
Abit
Alot

I wonder if this is a Northern thing? I was an adult before I came across 'laying in bed'
It still sounds odd to me 😁
