Which is the best filled pasta?

DiscoBob · 19/07/2025 18:39

I'm not mad on regular pasta like spaghetti, fusilli etc with sauce, but love filled pasta.

What's everyone's favourites, both shop bought, home made, or restaurant?

Mine at the moment I think is the Rana mushroom one. Or an Italian deli near me that sadly shut down did ones with mushroom, ricotta and truffle. Soo good!

I just had the Waitrose mushroom ones and they're alright.

I think It has to be nice enough to just have a bit of good olive oil, parmesan and fresh basil on it. If it needs heavy sauce it's wrong.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the subject x

Pirogi. Polish cheese and potato stuffed fresh pasta.

Must be made fresh though and controversially made with cheddar instead of the soft ricotta type cheese used traditionally.

So onion, garlic, mashed potato and a heap of strong cheddar plus seasoning. Serve with melted butter naturally.

I've never had a decent one from a restaurant.

murasaki · 19/07/2025 19:39

Rana are nice. I like the chicken and chorizo one, the spinach and ricotta and the ham and mozzarella. Sadly dp doesn't like mushrooms, so next time he's away....

I like a cheese and ham tortellini, myself.
or a really good traditional ravioli

This is a thread for me.

Mushroom is the best. I just have Aldi ones as I'm not that fancy.

I'm also Polish heritage and love pierogi, although I've never really thought of them as stuffed pasta. Cabbage and mushroom are the best. Cheese and potato ones in our family were always with cottage cheese. I'm not sure how I feel about the Cheddar option!

I really like pumpkin and pinenut ravioli. I have made it from scratch in the past and although delicious- took hours! Aldi sell a great fresh version and cheaper than most other supermarkets.

They also sell a tortellini which can be stored in the cupboard. I only use them when I need a quick lunch but they are very handy. Not as good as the fresh pastas, but still pretty good. They have 4 cheeses, mushroom, spinach/ricotta and I think a meaty option.

We had the co-op special Nduja & Burrata the other day and it was gorgeous!

ooooohlala · 19/07/2025 20:02

The Tesco finest butternut and sage one is good. It’s one of the few products where I find going up a price brackets actually makes a difference.

eyespartyparty · 19/07/2025 20:02

But should add that between 2 of us we were still pretty hungry 🤣

SeashellDREAMS · 19/07/2025 20:08

I like meat filled ravioli and potato gnocchi. Of course the sauce , and the cheese, is what makes it special, it has to be authentic, plain and simple.

Yep you definitely need a packet each! Or garlic bread and salad.

Ollybob · 19/07/2025 20:20

Butternut ang sage is delish, however at over £3 a pack it's a bit pricer than the other stuff

Morecoffeethanks · 19/07/2025 21:16

I found some Boursin ones in our local supermarket in France the other day. Great with some tomato’s and basil on the side.

SausageRoll2020 · 19/07/2025 21:20

The co-ops extra special range (can't remember it's name exactly) butternut squash version.
It's the best I've tried

Monvelo · 19/07/2025 21:21

The aubergine Rana one!

We love this one

Thank you everyone! So sorry I didn't come back I totally forgot I made this thread, arghh!

So I'm fully up for the buttenut ones, and I'd like to try the Rana aubergine as they have it in my corner shop.

And I've never tried piroggi, sounds interesting. I adore potatoes so I must give them a go.

The meaty ones are not so much my taste but I do like the sound of anything to do with chorizo!

My cousin made some with mozzarella and Parma ham with crispy sage on top once they were awesome though. But he only gave me two! 😐

Thank you again and happy pasta eating! 😍🍝

Asparagus sounds lush. I've not seen those! Lidls isn't that close sadly. It's near the hospital actually though, and I'm going there next week with my mum. So I'll check them out! Thank you x

@CalzoneOnLegs I went to lidls but the cupboard was bare! They only had the cheapie ones with meat and spinach/ricotta etc. the really boring ones! Damn. I'll keep trying! X

@DiscoBob thats a shame, it was the ‘summer specials’ last week they are all limited stock just like the themed weeks.
I have the asparagus and the goats cheese one am looking forward to them Aldi do some nice ones too all meat free apart from the Nduja one, and they are a regular line so will always be on stock.
the buffalo ricotta and spinach one is so nice and they literally do cook in three minutes
I plan to try Rana as recommended on this thread,

SaintNoMountainHighEnough · 31/07/2025 18:57

The Aldi Butternut Squash and Pine Nut Ravioli are excellent.

RantzNotBantz · 31/07/2025 19:00

Rana Aubergine

But if I was rich I would get the Waitrose prawn, chilli and garlic ravioli more often

Brownbearwhitebear · 31/07/2025 19:01

Waitrose do one, not own label but I can’t remember the brand. Anyway it’s something like crab and lobster and it’s perfect to eat with just a bit of butter/oil and some green leaves. Black packaging I think 🤔

Thank you! Yeah they must have all been snatched. Asparagus one sounds lovely. I only cook mine for 1.5 minutes. Like them a bit under. X
