Anybody want to find a holiday for me?

Would like to go last week of August for 4 nights/5 days - preferably Devon or Dorset. Definitely south anyway. 2 adults 2 kids. We are not fussed about the accommodation but would like to walk to a sandy beach and have parking. Budget is £1000. I have been looking for hours and it is definitely doable but now I am overwhelmed with choice and getting myself stressed. I don’t know any places down that way particular. Don’t want it Bournemouth busy. My dad has very kindly offered to treat me and my kids after a tough few years and now I am able to go away I am finding it all overwhelming! If anyone is bored and would like to look? Very cheeky of me I know and not exactly an exciting search!

Slightly over your budget but one of the nicest places I ever stayed in. It's not on the beach either but absolutely amazing for kids and beautiful and relaxing. 10 min drive to the beach.

I stayed in Hayloft. The view waking up was glorious.

That does look beautiful! Going over budget is not an option though. I appreciate you looking - thank you

Only hundred quid over 🫣

That area is lovely if you can find somewhere near. Lyme is heaving but the nearest beach to Rudge Farm was quite quiet even in August. We loved it.

Mumteedum · 16/07/2025 19:58

I'm a sad case but love looking at holiday cottages 😀🫣

This one is near. Again, not right in beach but close and lovely grounds I think?

That is also beautiful! We really want to be able to walk to the beach though.
Any idea what Sidmouth is like?

I belong to a holiday let group and have posted your question.

Do the children need their own rooms?

Yes I know what you mean. I can never find one that's quite right for me when I'm looking for one close to the beach but I do dream of it 😊

I didn't venture as far as Sidmouth so will leave that one to experts but looks lovely.

Ohhh curveball.... https://www.holidaycottages.co.uk/cottage/75338-the-flat-by-the-sea!

Minehead. Almost Devon. Highly recommended by a friend of mine. Minehead that is not the actual accommodation but it IS next to the beach ⛱️ 😁

Like a fine grit. Not nice to walk on.

caringcarer · 16/07/2025 20:31

Exmouth has a nice sandy beach, Sandy Bay does too. North Devon but Saunton Sands has an enormous sandy beach.

Orlandobaby · 16/07/2025 20:32

Have a look at Woolacombe on the north Devon coast. Gorgeous beach!

Mumteedum · 16/07/2025 20:33

I want to go now.... Just anywhere really near the sea. Can't wait for my holiday!

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 16/07/2025 20:37

Not stayed here as we don’t have kids but 4 nights from £775 in late August:

Have you looked at Charmouth? It’s Lyme’s quieter neighbour. Great bus links, 10 minutes to Lyme, further on to sidmouth (sidmouth is pebbly except one area when the tide is out but lovely for a wander). There are a couple of accommodation options in Charmouth but something like this? https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/854142351566061947?adults=2&check_in=2025-08-26&check_out=2025-08-30&children=2&location=Charmouth%2C%20Dorset&search_mode=regular_search&infants=0&pets=0&source_impression_id=p3_1752695003_P3NDjUeEPd0M4aZr&previous_page_section_name=1001
the beach is generally pebbles but with a large sand stretch and rock pools. Fantastic for fossil hunting but would advise going with a guide due to cliff falls etc and you’ll learn what to look for https://charmouth.org/chcc/category/fossil-events/
Shallow slope into sea so good for kids.
Lots of lovely things to do nearby.

@snemrose

This may fit the bill?

check in 25/8 - 29/8 £935.53 (contact owner direct you could "possibly" pay £800)

guessed the children are between 2-12

Sidmouth is lovely, great for paddle boarding and there are some lovely walks. The beach is really nice.

Baboutheocelot · 16/07/2025 21:13

Newlands in Charmouth. It’s a short walk to the beach and they have lodges under £1000 for your dates.

DaisyChain505 · 16/07/2025 21:15

Devon cliffs. The caravan park leads directly onto the beach, has a swimming pool, entertainment etc and an animal park.

snemrose · 16/07/2025 21:27

Oh my goodness - thank you all so much! Will go through them now. 3dc 12-20yrs - we are happy with 2 bedrooms. I have found a couple too. Will post them here and would love opinions.

Opinions on any of these? We are really not fussed about the aesthetics of the accommodation. Happy with chalet/flat/caravan. Just don’t want to have to use the car every day.

Going to look at all your suggestions now - thank you so much. Feeling less stressed and overwhelmed. I just wish someone could do it all for me 😩
