Cool cities to visit with a 21 yr old

Brunocatmon · 15/07/2025 08:56

Im treating my dd to a 5 day city break for her 21st next year.

We each have to come up with 5 choices then narrow it down.

So fat I have New York and New Orleans.

Not feeling Paris, Rome, Amsterdam she's not that kind of person.

Dont mind long haul but we only have around 5 days in reality.

Thank you

Berlin?

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 15/07/2025 08:59

I'm not sure I get the difference between a NYC person and a Paris person? What do you both like to do?

Steelworks · 15/07/2025 08:59

Friends really rave about Belfast.

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/07/2025 09:01

Venice
Dubrovnik
Vienna

Friends really rave about Belfast.

My other dd lived in NI for a few years so we've done that a few times.

I kind of mean Paris she did with her bf.

Barcelona (beautiful city)
Florence

Sayshesheshe · 15/07/2025 09:32

I’d throw Copenhagen and Boston in the mix

Noshadelamp · 15/07/2025 09:33

Berlin, such a vibrant creative city with beautiful parks, architecture, galleries and history. Of course there's the nightlife but it is so much more than that.

Brunocatmon · 15/07/2025 09:36

She's not a nightlife girl so not fussed about that side of things.

What does she like then?
best places I took my DD to were Sicily and Naples, but she likes food, wine and culture!

Magicmagician · 15/07/2025 10:27

Agree with Berlin, or Vienna is a great city, I really liked it there. Munich also lovely, bit more relaxed than the other two.

Brunocatmon · 15/07/2025 10:59

Shes autistic. She has emetephobia so doesnt like anything if there is a vague notion that people might be ill, ie, no boat trips.

She likes Halloween, musical theatre, singing. She likes culture but not ruins.

She enjoys adventure, she's done off road biking and things like that with her bf. She finds making decisions difficult but so long as its not part of her phobia, she'd be happy to do things I present as a fait acompli.

She's very quiet when she's not masking.

Budapest?

Bufftailed · 15/07/2025 11:07

Lisbon, Madrid

SwedishEdith · 15/07/2025 11:08

What time of year would you go?

littlekipling81 · 15/07/2025 11:19

If she loves Halloween then take her to Boston and you can go visit Salem! Only around 30 minutes away by train. So much to do in Boston itself and Salem is perfect for Halloween lovers. Even better if you go in September or October for the festival.

ninjahamster · 15/07/2025 11:22

San Francisco?

MyMilchick · 15/07/2025 11:49

Budapest?

I loved Budapest too

Barcelona for the beach added in

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2025 11:57

I'd go for Budapest or Barcelona.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2025 11:57

Or Dubrovnik or Oslo, come to think of it.

PenelopePerseveres · 15/07/2025 11:59

Copenhagen or Stockholm.

Streamline2 · 15/07/2025 12:00

Reykjavik is ideal for a short break.

TizerorFizz · 15/07/2025 12:04

I might be wrong, but isn’t Halloween big in the USA but not really anywhere else? Boston is easy enough to get to. Salem is tacky but if you like Halloween, could be perfect.

NY has a lot to see but my favourite things won’t be your favourite things except musical theatre which you can find there of course. It’s always very busy so factor that in.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2025 12:06

5 days is quite a lot, though, OP. I was thinking back and also pondering Reykjavik. Then I thought I'd struggle to fill more than 3 days. 5 would be fine for NYC as you knock days out with travel.

You could do, say, Budapest and Vienna and get the train between them.
