Image you have to go into witness protection scheme or you are on the run from the police or you want to write a book about a walk but you have lots of debts.

You need a new full name for yourself and your family. What would you choose? Would you go with your middle name, a family name or completely made up?

I would go with Elinor Gray (totally made up) DH Stewart (family name and I’m not giving him a choice in this game).

I voted YABU but I do understand, once I married my husband I shared my name with a celebrity and yes, it does get commented on. I just laugh or smile whenever it’s mentioned but it not a big deal and it certainly hasn’t ever made me want to change my name.

Not a million miles from my actual name just IMO sounds more unique.

I would change my name to Carmen McIntosh (always fancied a Mc name!).

However, for witness protection purposes I would probably go for Fiona Scott, I know at least 3 of them so hopefully my potential assassins would get confused and take out the wrong one.

Athena or Roxanne. I have a boring 70s name that can't be shortened but has so many spellings, everyone gets it wrong. For a surname, I'd like something dramatic like Mavromatis or Smirnova.

Juliet or Julia

If I needed a nom de plume for my novel, I would use the name of my great, great, great grandmother who died in childbirth in 1806 aged only 24. It is a lovely name - a biblical first name followed a recognisable literary surname. She died so young that I feel I’d like to give her a second chance at a life.
