If you had to change your name what would you choose?

Image you have to go into witness protection scheme or you are on the run from the police or you want to write a book about a walk but you have lots of debts.

You need a new full name for yourself and your family. What would you choose? Would you go with your middle name, a family name or completely made up?

I would go with Elinor Gray (totally made up) DH Stewart (family name and I’m not giving him a choice in this game).

I have thought seriously about changing my name due to abuse. I didn’t in the end as I thought I would own it instead.

I’d choose Emma Knight.

I know an Emma Knight - she’s absolutely lovely.

Tallulah Sainsbury. Not too sure why, but that's what I'd pick.

RosesAndHellebores · 14/07/2025 21:33

Elizabeth Brigg
Elizabeth is the most used female name in my family tree and Brigg was a family name c1600.

.

SprayWhiteDung · 14/07/2025 21:33

Clodagh Rubbish, Tess Tickles or Rudolf Hucker.

Ohrightyho · 14/07/2025 21:34

I’d be practical and go for a unisex name for an easier life.

Alex Du Bois

66babe · 14/07/2025 21:35

I’m female but I’d choose Noah
maybe Noah Mason .. I have no idea where the surname came from 😂

RebeccaDecember · 14/07/2025 21:35

As an underage teenage pub drinker, I used to tell people my name was Shaznay McNallie 😂

Snugglemonkey · 14/07/2025 21:37

Julia Fenella Darling

Daffodilsarefading · 14/07/2025 21:37

I’d go Estelle Farrington-De’Vere.

CrowsInMyGarden · 14/07/2025 21:38

As I child my alter ego was Hayley Silver. If I ever run away from my life that is who I will become.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 14/07/2025 21:40

Did a name generator and got Shylah Washington.

I’d choose Eliza Donovan.

TheDandyLion · 14/07/2025 21:43

Alexandra Rose

TooHotNeedToCoolDown · 14/07/2025 21:43

Ophelia. Love the name so not practical. Or maybe Leah.

I saw a blue plaque for a Clementina Black last year. I loved that name! Looks like she was very cool too, so double whammy.

Not only a cool name, but a cool person. I just had to look her up. I may now promote the name, Clementina on the Baby name thread in her honour.

Sybil Smith

MostlyGhostly · 14/07/2025 21:48

Anna Wolf. First name kind of similar to mine and surname common enough but cool. And I like wolves.

Steelworks · 14/07/2025 21:51

My name would Rowena or Cassandra, although these are quite distinctive so I go for something more mundane for witness protection - Patricia Turner ?

Some great names on this thread.

PashaMinaMio · 14/07/2025 21:54

Dorcas Foster
Nosmo King

Denimrules · 14/07/2025 21:57

Emma Peel like in The Avengers

DeliaOwens · 14/07/2025 22:01

Isolde Merrin,
Kat Landers
Ellsbeth Nyborg

MayaPinion · 14/07/2025 22:05

I would want to call myself Princess Consuela Bananahammock, but in a witness protection programme I’d call myself Paul Smith or Brian Cox or Taylor Swift - something commonish but a google search would throw up so many websites it would be impossible to find. I once knew a man called Thomas Jones. Impossible to find if you didn’t have an invitation!

Redheadedstepchild · 14/07/2025 22:12

Or you could go by a mononym, (word I only found out today)

Like:

Cher
Madonna
Prince

Or to be more literary:

Morrissey.

GertyFreely · 14/07/2025 22:13

Kinsey Millhone.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 14/07/2025 22:19

Violet Bramble, Alice Drinkwater or Amber Darke.
