I'm UK grounded for the foreseeable future waiting on a minor operation so figured I'd maybe take a few uk city breaks :) solo probably.

I love pretty architecture.

Plenty of free time and no mobility issues.

I love London. I've technically done most Scottish cities. And Bristol. But happy to hear about everyones experiences.

Lincoln is interesting - the cathedral is amazing!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/07/2025 15:48

I’m always disappointed by Durham as there is so little to do. (Apart from the Cathedral) was also disappointed by Bath. As I found the lack of architectural styles a bit dull. All regency/Georgian.

I don't like Bath, I think it's ugly. The Roman Baths are very interesting though.

York is lovely easy to get around, I also really like Bath, and Durham. I don't really like Cheltenham it feels "artificial " i don't even know what i mean 😂

sophistitroll · 15/07/2025 16:49

Liverpool without a doubt after London

polarsystem · 15/07/2025 16:51

Oxford, York, Bath.

Dappy777 · 15/07/2025 17:17

Lots of UK towns and cities are pretty grim, especially the poorer residential areas.

Personally, these are my favourites: Edinburgh, York, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Norwich and Exeter. It's also interesting to visit Stratford Upon Avon and see where Shakespeare was born.

TranceNation · 15/07/2025 17:40

York
Bath
Canterbury
Oxford
Cambridge

Those cities are as fine as any city on the continent.

cloudyblueglass · 15/07/2025 17:42

London - each and every time.

No mobility issues.

Just cities.

Would be good if everyone could share the things they enjoy seeing and doing in their fave cities too

Walking ghost tour in York, very interesting and a bit of light entertainment. Walked through lots of interesting architecture in the quieter evening. Jorvik was interesting but very commercialised.

Londonmummy66 · 15/07/2025 18:35

You could stay a few days in Bath - ROman Baths, the rooftop pool or the Georgian one next to it, the fashion Museum and Assembly Rooms and Jane Austen's House on Royal Crescent. Then take a bus to Wells and explore the Cathedral and Bishops Palace and enjoy the pretty streets and Cathedral Close.

Londonmummy66 · 15/07/2025 18:36

If you can drive then a cathedral city road trip could be fund - eg Salisbury, WInchester, Old Portsmouth and the Naval Dockyard and then Chichester

Jk987 · 15/07/2025 18:39

Chester and Liverpool are tops.

Ok.

Then I highly recommend a visit to North Wales.
