What would you rather have, a belly or a wrinkly neck?

Bizarre question, I know but I'm stuck between the 2.
Have a mum tum that only goes away at xyz weight, but when I reach Xyz weight my neck gets wrinkly.

I can gain again and the neck fill out but so will my mum tum and non of my jeans will fit nicely.

Or is there anything (non surgical) I can do about the neck?

Well, fat around the middle isn’t great for you - a wrinkly neck isn’t going to do you any harm…

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/07/2025 19:00

Oh dear, I have both!

Mrsbloggz · 12/07/2025 19:01

I think even for the neck area it is (over the long term) better to keep body fat down.
This is because the subcutaneous fat which fills out the wrinkling when you are younger will stretch the skin and leave it more wrinkly when you are older.
Not much good news on the neck front unless you have a big square jaw to keep it all tight.
Maybe some sort of invisible & lightweight neck support can be invented for all us old tortoises?

I’ve been told a bit of filler at the side top of jaw will pull some of the wrinkly neck out

MrsSethGecko · 12/07/2025 19:11

I've got bothGrin

Ilovemyshed · 12/07/2025 19:12

How old are you? At some point you will stop caring !

I mean it doesn't consume my every thought but on the occasional photo it catches my eye.

It’s not a turkey neck yet!
Perhaps start Tretinoin, and keep your neck well moisturised!

What’s in that mighty filler that it’s strong enough to flatten wrinkles? I must get some!

ObliviousCoalmine · 12/07/2025 19:25

I’m the same age and I’ve suddenly developed the same patch of neck wrinkles. I’m quite annoyed by it.

shirtyshirt · 12/07/2025 19:26

I'd rather a bit of belly tbh.

Overtheatlantic · 12/07/2025 19:31

I’d rather the neck. Here’s Pearl Lowe, my age, wearing a skinny scarf and looking fabulous. I think my future will be filled with these.

It doesn't go near the wrinkles, it adds to either side of the jaw making the jaw wider and pulling the skin taut I think!

No. It fills the area in the same way fat from gaining weight would

yakkity · 12/07/2025 19:38

OP your neck wrinkles are very minor. Definitely go with reducing the belly

You can buy special tape for that, it’s cheaper too! Or use frownies, you can get patches for the neck. However at this stage, just moisturise.
Time to worry is when your neck resembles a cow's dewlap!

sonjadog · 12/07/2025 19:39

Ha, I have this issue too. I was just thinking about it last week and how not pleased I am about it…

I have no recommendations. I am hoping that moisturizer and time to get used to new weight will tighten the skin a bit.

Ddakji · 12/07/2025 19:40

53 with both here.

I know that belly fat can have health implications that a wrinkly neck doesn’t.

But I know that when I first started noticing my neck was wrinkling it was actually pretty upsetting. I was more upset that I thought I’d be. Losing skin elasticity is one of the worst signs of ageing - worse than having greying hair for me.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2025 19:41

I can't see my neck so would choose the wrinkly neck.

Ddakji · 12/07/2025 19:41

But - when I actually consider trying to lose weight, which I don’t often enough, knowing that I’ll end up with loose skin really puts me off.

66babe · 12/07/2025 19:41

I have a dermatologica facial with a radio frequency session - concentrated on the neck - I swear it does tighten up my neck and really should do a course but I always forget
Have a look at RF 👍🏼
