Piss poor reporting from the BBC today. They get a session with Trump and ask him banal, boring, pointless questions and fail to challenge him on his bollocks.

They’ve run Masterchef as their top story again. I think they’ve given up on journalism.

Even if there is not enough for a bus shelter, the phone box has probably been taken away.

Or will have the defibrillator they so desperately need in it.

Government releases data on immigrants and UC benefits but does not know how many billionaires pay tax in the UK.

From the public accounts committee-
A higher risk of error may be presented by wealthy taxpayers, due to the larger amounts involved with the potential for more complex financial affairs.
The PAC reported on collecting tax from high net worth individuals in 2016. The Committee at the time expressed alarm that HMRC had around one third of these individuals under enquiry at any one time, and in 2015–16 was investigating cases with a value of around £1.9bn extra tax revenue that might be due. It further found that the amount of tax paid by this very wealthy group of individuals had fallen by £1bn since HMRC set up its unit to focus specifically on their tax affairs.

Hasn't stopped a classic plopper from starting a thread about the awful immigrants claiming benefits. The level of hate mongering on MN is shocking.

Foreign born rather than immigrants and agreed pointy.

Watch Ed Davey call out the BBC for their failure to hold Nigel Farage to account.

Edited

I hid that thread. I can't bear much more of the hate.

Quite honestly I’m enjoying it. The usual suspects are being soundly trounced.

More stupid probably but I’m not going to leave ridiculous bullshit unchallenged.

Notonthestairs · 16/07/2025 11:15

Davey is spot on - the media in general are unwilling to push for Reforms policy initiatives. They treat them as a Gob on a Stick - which I suppose is broadly accurate.

I’ve posted it before and no doubt will post it again.

Does the government actually release data on immigrants on Mumsnet as it seems to be posted on here on a daily basis!

The irony of Badenoch going through and end of term score card at PMQs. Bless. I would have been tempted to say see me later but you won't turn up because you never do.

The super injunction regarding Afghan refugees is shameful on the Tory watch.

On bias reporting, re the Afghan/MOD leak... pissed off hearing that "Successive Govts continued the restrictions...."

It was ALL on the Tories, a new govt coming in, with the issues they had, cannot be expected to know about a Super Injunction, by its very nature, its secret.

The extra costs are expected to be in the region of £2.5 billion, with total costs around £6 billion.

Notonthestairs · 16/07/2025 15:45

Badenoch was offered a briefing on the super injunction and declined it as not necessary.

But then I suppose she might not have needed it given she was in government as was Truss/Johnson/Sunak/Braverman/Jenrick/Anderson etc.

Notonthestairs · 16/07/2025 15:47

They’ll soon forget if they decide it’s in their interests.

Presumably Lee Anderson is also in the firing line given his role at the time?

cardibach · 16/07/2025 15:50

Starmer has removed the whip from 3 MPs for breaching party discipline. More in the pipeline apparently, and it’s over the benefits vote. I think this is a mistake. It looks less like undermining/U turn if you can say we listened to opinions and changed our plans. Suspending people for giving their opinion makes it look more like weakness.
