I think all those of you who keep on patiently explaining migration on those constant, dreadful threads deserve deifying 😇
They make me shudder and whilst I’ve ventured on some I can’t often be doing with the massive and deliberate ignorance plus vitriol about humans. My favourite thing to point out is that U.K. case law plays into our asylum approach. My saddest take is that people are so awful about and to actual people - if you don’t like immigration then go to the government not the (usually dire) hotels.
I heard Iain Dale start an hour of small boats discussion but before I switched off a guy came on with great points of view, debunked that we pay for asylum seekers’ phones and other stuff - refreshing and gives some hope.
Having said all that it’s time at least one party was honest about immigration, small boats etc and educated the U.K. about different types of migration/migrants, why it happens, why we should do our share of supporting refugees, why have migration, why we aren’t auto superior! and the benefits and how it will be managed. Mind I guess some would still be ignorant to it as it doesn’t suit their closet agenda.

Thing is there’s a decision to be made - whether we (and the West and some others) accept migration is an issue to acknowledge, accept and handle as fairly as possible, or whether we divide into tribes and fight for land. Imo migration will increase - no not all coming to U.K. though I don’t have to tell this thread that I know! - but worldwide there’s going to be so many effectively uninhabitable countries and people have always migrated for a better life - always. I despair that people think it’s ok to set light to hotels with people in but worry what they’ll think is ok by the next generation.
Though I voted labour and generally like their policies I think immigration is one that falls down - kicking a can down the road - all of them - until they get their act together and be honest about it and within that hopefully stop the hatred of the majority at least.
Do have to add that I genuinely don’t understand the ‘British/English culture’ thing - I grew up in a city and moved less than 15 miles to an ex pit village - their ‘culture’ was incredibly baffling to me - not wrong, just different but actually with less interest in understanding ‘outsider’ views than many in my city.

The pit village I used to to live in is festooned with reform flags, now.

Nothing ever changes when it comes to finding people to blame.
