Reform bots. Can't imagine real people are posting such nonsense. I know some posters grift on a tenner a week to supplement the household income, but those threads are slave wages if real people are posting them.

PandoraSocks · 26/07/2025 11:00

I am fed up with the Reform lot. We are told we musn't be nasty to the Reform inclined as it will make more people support Reform. We need to understand people's concerns.

Bugger that. I am not going to tiptoe around bigots.

Definitely real people, some of the views i hear in RL make what people post on here seem positively sane.

Look at what Trump and his supporters believe?

Reform have around 30% support, so 1 in 3 posters could be Reform backers, not that MN is representative but it gives an idea of where the country is heading.

I completely agree. If nobody highlights how abhorrent their views are it normalises them.

A lot of Reform have Trump envy. This is an excellent piece about the doubling down of the extreme right.

Extremism sweeps the British right

Trump envy, mudbloods and the new fanaticism

I am not sure carrying a piece of cardboard stating you are not far right whilst standing next to neo nazis is doing much good.

tommy ten names is still deciding whether or not to join the concerned people of Epping tomorrow.

Quite an eye opener in France, met 3 well educated American women, 2 of them supported Trump 100% caveated with "We don't like him as a person... but..."

A lot pf people in the UK said similar about Bojo.

I did see a YouGov poll on who would you "consider" voting for at the next election (not intention) and Labour were still ahead of the pack, obv 4 years out but for heavens sake, Starmer needs to be far less timid and scared of upsetting anyone, least of all Trump, he wont even be in power in 2029.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2025 12:19

People hold cross-pressured views on protecting refugees.

7/10 people support core principle that people should be able to take refuge, including in Britain, when fleeing war and persecution. 1/5 don't support this principle

Fluctuates
2025: 71%
2024: 75%
2023: 84%
2022: 80%
2021: 73%
2020: 78%

I'm surprised LD is where it is. I thought they'd be up there with the Greens.

I have an issue with their first bullet point. What are 'countries like Sweden, Netherlands and Argentina'??? I know I'm a grammar pedant but that's sloppy.

Willowkins · 26/07/2025 12:53

Wow. I assume this is still about people escaping from war and persecution. Either they didn't read the question or there seems to be a complete lack of empathy from some quarters.
Just out of interest, where would people go if their local area became dangerous? I've lived my whole life waiting for the revolution and never expected to live this long - but I've always imagined that, if I was a refugee, I'd go to Scotland.

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2025 12:59

Like most refugees, somewhere safe and where I could manage the language.

And somewhere with good food and nice weatherGrin Maybe South America or parts of Africa (assuming Europe, US, Canada, NZ/Aus aren't an option)

There is a Reform script on MN now. It goes like this:

-Immigrants in hotels in my town.

-Women and children can't walk in their own town because of those immigrants sitting on benches and walls leering at them.

-Sexual assaults by those immigrants.

-New housing on new estates in my town going to those immigrants.

Press any of them for details, none forthcoming. Don't want to say where they live. The press aren't reporting the sexual assaults etc.

Good to know so much new housing is being built, though!

The littering of dinghies all along the Kent coast is another moan, as in a friend of a friend reported etc.

I've also come across June Slater on xitter and dearie me she spews relentless racism. Obviously Reform.

Just seen a post on a local Facebook group for a “posh” seaside resort near us, someone has posted anonymously as a “concerned resident” asking if it’s true that asylum seekers are being placed in three houses on a local street and will they be families or men 🙄

MsJinks · 26/07/2025 14:16

Think I’ve said before that I now live near 3 hotels - I never knew there were migrants in any of them for months though one is all migrants and one part, don’t think the other will.
I just do not recognise the issues regularly mentioned - the non migrant hotel has its regular guests, conferences and weddings with no issues for example despite being next door to one of these ‘terrible’ places. The only terrible thing about these places are they’re hotels desperately in need of upgrading and having the contract gives the hotel the cost of a full refurb afterwards.

Ohhh, that’s interesting! I pointed out to DH a batshit post this morning on FB from a local group, asking if it was ‘just a Rumour’ that quite a fancy hotel had been taken over to house asylum seekers as all bookings cancelled, even for weddings. Hotel is not a million miles away from said posh seaside resort. It’s also not the type of establishment typically used for temporary housing and looked like a total attempt to whip up froth.

Apparently Starmer has employed ex Sun editor for permanent secretary for Communications. As you can guess it will go like a lead balloon in Liverpool. I feel sorry for the Liverpool Labour MPs who have to field those questions from their constituents.

The Danish protection of Jews during the war is a humbling story. Luckily it's not known in the UK.
