Currys sent wrong fridge freezer

Curry’s delivered and installed the correct item but wrong colour. I thought it looked very dark and when you put in the item it’s the black version instead of silver.

Called them up and because the delivery men haven’t entered that it’s been delivered yet we have to wait for that and apparently someone will call us after 7pm.

I also have a freezer of food that will now have to be thrown away.

What are my rights here? Do I have to accept their replacement or can I just ask for a refund?

Really?! How long ago was this?

I know 😂supposing someone bought all your food 😂😂

TheGriffle · 11/07/2025 17:38

I didn’t think Colourblindness usually affected black/grey tones, I thought it was more reds, blues greens.

budgiegirl · 11/07/2025 17:43

They are the worst company I’ve ever dealt with apart from fortnum and Mason. I spent four hours on the phone to them when their new appliance broke and they cut me off. So, I don’t think anything positive is going to happen

We had a similar problem. We had a new dishwasher installed by Currys, it didn't work from the get go. We tried phoning to resolve, but all they would do is say they'd send an engineer to fix it the following week. We didn't want it fixed, we wanted it replaced. We resolved the issue by loading it into the back of our car, driving it to our nearest Currys store, dumping it in the foyer and kicking up a fuss. That solved the matter pretty quickly!

If you don’t want to put all your food in the new freezer, try ringing your local Iceland or another supermarket and ask if they can put your food in one of your freezers. I’ve done thst twice over the years when I’ve had freezers break down and they’ve been happy to help out.

This sounds like a Viz Top Tip

ProfessorSlocombe · 11/07/2025 17:50

If you can't avoid Currys, then always pay with a credit card. Then when they arse about you can get the card provider involved.

I believe there is a range - if not spectrum - of colour vision deficiencies.

I bought my last freezer about four years ago, and that’s when they helped me out the second time. I put everything in big cool bags and they kept everything together for me in the storage area so no-one could have accessed it and bought anything. The manager was really nice about it, and I gave him a bottle of wine to say thank you when I collected everything.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 11/07/2025 18:12

@Growlybear83 oh okay. That was kind but just hard for me to imagine in my local iceland. You're lucky to get served !

By any chance do you work at this Iceland @Growlybear83 ?

huh?

you have a freezer. So put it all in there irrespective of the outcome from curry’s

This. I'm confused 😕
They've delivered the wrong thing, so use the fridge until they deliver the correct one. It's their mistake, not sure why PP is saying you have no rights! You don't need any compensation though if that's what you're after.

Caulibroc · 11/07/2025 14:32

very strange your husband signed nothing given it is clearly stated that for large items including freezers that a signature is required

Edited

I don't sign anything unless I've had a chance to properly check it, that would be stupid.

I’ve tweeted and messaged on instagram. Seems the 48 hours resolution contact time is the only offer.

Well this is probably why they have bad service if you're messaging about the same issue via various channels! Just wait for someone to respond 🤪😜

Icebreakhell · 12/07/2025 06:52

To clarify.

It was bought online. Husband thought it looked darker than the photo but wasn’t sure. The delivery guys were in a rush.

Once they left and I came home I commented that it was much darker than the photo. We checked the number on the fridge and realised they’d sent the wrong one.

Now waiting 48 hours for a ‘resolution’ call. Meantime the frozen food has gone to a friend.

We want the one we ordered or a refund.

Perhaps you’d feel differently if you’d had to hang on the phone to a call centre in India for an hour. To then speak to people who haven’t a clue. Or use their online ‘chat’ facility that no one answers.

I understand your frustration completely, service is dire. I feel the reason is probably because they have all these channels instead of just phone and email. Chat is the worst option imo, I often ask if I'm talking to a real person and they get offended 😆

I had a nightmare with Curry’s customer service last year. In the end I went through Resolver and got an almost immediate response and it was resolved. I think they’ve got a separate team for this. Might be worth a go. https://www.resolver.co.uk/

I imagine they will offer to replace it or offer a big discount to keep the one you've got. Customer satisfaction is important to these companies and as said it really is their fault, colour is a really important feature if you are matching things in a kitchen.

kiwiblue · 12/07/2025 07:20

Currys were just awful when we got our fridge delivered. Firstly they damaged the floor in multiple places, really badly. (In the end we got money out of them for this but their approach was absolutely shocking - had an employee send us an email quoting made up legal cases to say they weren't liable. DHb was a lawyer so knew it was bollocks and in the end they gave in). Then the fridge didn't work. It was a month before we got a replacement. We did get compensation from them for ruined fridge contents, so you may be able to do this.

Isitreallysohard · 12/07/2025 07:36

Try not to stress too much OP, they screwed up and will have to fix it. They can't force you to take a fridge you never ordered.

The2ndone · 12/07/2025 05:44

Yes I did. The first time was probably about ten years ago, and my little local co-op stored my stuff for me. The freezer that broke down wasn’t a particularly big one, so it didn’t have very much food inside. I made the mistake of replacing it with a really cheap one which I was able to get delivered quickly and only lasted about six years. My local supermarket couldn’t help out the second time because I had a lot more food, which is why I rang Iceland. And no, I don’t work there, and very rarely shop there, but they were really lovely and helpful. A few things had defrosted before I could get the food there, but I was able to save most of it, and saved myself loads of money too.

ProfessorSlocombe · 12/07/2025 09:54

Not quite as important as acquiring and then keeping your money though. As a comparison of the size of teams (and their salaries) involved would show.

I didn't sign for my washing machine, oven or fridge either?? I just got a confirmation email saying it was delivered

My DH can't tell the difference between black, grey and navy blue. I don't think it is a medical thing. He just can't be bothered seeing the difference. Also, if I went out and told him a new fridge was getting delivered and a new fridge arrived, he wouldn't notice/know/care that it wasn't the one we ordered!

Same here. I don't think it's colour blindness. It's not paying attention and a dark gray is the same as a light gray blindness.
