Currys sent wrong fridge freezer

Curry’s delivered and installed the correct item but wrong colour. I thought it looked very dark and when you put in the item it’s the black version instead of silver.

Called them up and because the delivery men haven’t entered that it’s been delivered yet we have to wait for that and apparently someone will call us after 7pm.

I also have a freezer of food that will now have to be thrown away.

What are my rights here? Do I have to accept their replacement or can I just ask for a refund?

Where is your old freezer? You’re not supposed to turn a new one on for 24 hours after it’s been in transit, plus the time it takes to get cold (another 24 hours possibly) you’d have needed to throw your food away anyway if you didn’t keep your old freezer.

Edited

They said 8 hours. Frozen stuff is packed in ice in ice boxes, which will be ok until the morning.

He didn’t sign anything.

Correct item is stainless steel.

This one is a dark graphite, almost black.

He didn’t sign anything?!

ok get yourself on web chat op.

Foreverm0re · 11/07/2025 14:15

You can try contacting them I guess, but if they say you’ve accepted the delivery then you might just be stuck with it.

Indeed

The item was opened in front of her husband
he would have had to digitally sign that he has received correct item before installation

Tough shit - it's still Curry's error, it's not a customer whim to have the right item delivered, regardless of whether someone on delivery said "yes it is the right item". The husband knew a fridge was coming, a fridge was delivered. You could only tell it was the wrong one by reading a small detail in the paperwork.

If it was just the OP saying "I don't like it", that would be different. And the error has been spotted quickly, it's not as if several days have passed.

spoonbillstretford · 11/07/2025 14:21

It's always an eye opener on these threada how little people know of their statutory consumer rights.

Thanks yes, it’s not massively obvious. Correct make and size, wrong colour. Order shows the correct item was ordered.

Their website says you have 30 days to reject, even if just change your mind.

Great stuff 👏

very strange your husband signed nothing given it is clearly stated that for large items including freezers that a signature is required

Irrelevant - consumer rights still apply.

That’s basically just their way of making sure someone is home to receive the delivery.

Same thing happened to my sister - the wrong shade of fridge freezer was installed (but she secretly liked the wrong one once she saw it installed in her kitchen). But she complained as only she can, got a whopping refund and used it to equip her kitchen with several posh Ninja devices. Remains perfectly happy with the wrong fridge freezer.

A8674 · 11/07/2025 15:30

I had very same. It was Dec 23rd though and they'd already delivered & taken back a damaged (several dents) one a couple days before, so I pushed and got a 10% refund to keep it. Can the colour work for you?

That’s encouraging. I just want it gone really.

Sadly not. It’s an American 2 door one so looks very ‘dominant’ in the dark colour.

They are the worst company I’ve ever dealt with apart from fortnum and Mason. I spent four hours on the phone to them when their new appliance broke and they cut me off. So, I don’t think anything positive is going to happen

Icebreakhell · 11/07/2025 16:46

They’re all in Indian call centres. The latest person we spoke to said he was going to arrange a refund and collection and then came back to tell us he’s ’logged it’ and we now have to wait 48 hours just for someone to call us back. Such shocking service. I’ve also tweeted them.

allgrownupnow · 11/07/2025 16:48

Good luck is all I can say. I had a terrible experience with curry’s customer service, zero help, completely stonewalled me until I gave up.
I bought a washing machine, on the website it said it had a wool cycle. Arrives, is installed by their guys, I realise it doesn’t have that function. Big shrug from curry’s, no clean jumpers for me

allgrownupnow · 11/07/2025 16:49

I also went into the shop a few times as the call centres were impossible, no joy there either

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 11/07/2025 17:05

I can't help with the legal aspects, but I'd ask neighbours if they have any space in their freezer you could use.

I am not a particularly nice person and would be happy to do this, as I normally have freezer space free. You might well be able to save your most expensive freezer food.

I’ve tweeted and messaged on instagram. Seems the 48 hours resolution contact time is the only offer.
