I am so shocked at this! Although I'm probably being naive.

He is still looking at a 20 year stretch, though.

Ageismlives · 02/07/2025 16:18

I think you are being naive.

He's too powerful a figure and too rich to ever receive justice like lesser mortals.

twilightcafe · 02/07/2025 16:21

I'm not shocked, sadly.

Money and celebrity talks in America - and these two factors seem to carry more weight with American juries more than they should.

He'll probably go down for 20 years. It's not a win for him. And they have the next decade or so for other victims to come forward and new investigations conducted.

Personally, I think there will be new charges brought in time and that once he's sentenced he won't be released because the charges will keep being added to.

I think because of the likes of R Kelly I expected the same outcome.

What's shocking is he wasn't actually in court for rape or coercion? The charges of racketeering are so much harder to prove.

Hardly. He's a rapper. Nothing more🤦‍♂️

Whosenameisthis · 02/07/2025 16:30

I found it interesting when Chris Brown was imprisoned in the UK the amount of Americans who thought money would keep him out of jail. Had no concept of not being able to simply “pay his bail” and walk out.

it does seem if you have money you can buy your way out if things. Much like you can persuade someone not to “press charges” and pay them off - it’s up to the victim whether a case is prosecuted.

I don't rate him at all, but he's more than a rapper, he's (was) very influential, and powerful.

I wish people would call this dangerous criminal by his réal name, not his stupid stage name.

What a contemptible oaf.

moto748e · 02/07/2025 16:42

I'd put my house on it that he will never do 'substantial jail time'. He's too rich.

MsNevermore · 02/07/2025 16:44

I think the wildest part to me is the wording of the charges.

So he’s not guilty of sex trafficking…..but guilty of transporting people to engage in prostitution?
That Venn diagram sounds very much like a circle no? 🫠🫠🫠

crumblingschools · 02/07/2025 16:46

What is the difference between trafficking and transporting?

Crossing State lines, maybe?

Izz81 · 02/07/2025 16:52

America is probably as corrupt as any of the other more recognisably corrupt countries, but there are many factors that go in to the success of a conviction.

We have also had many questionable guilty verdicts of the state vs [insert accused without an alibi] over here and many obviously guilty who have got off just from sheer incompetence of the CPS.

One thing that does stick out is how so many charges were thrown at him, how much resource did they have on building the case for each charge? Would they have been better to concentrate on the most probable to get a conviction?

Problem now is everyone knows he is guilty, the guy is nasty and has probably a mass grave of skeletons in his closet that we dont know about - but there will still be fans out there standing by their idol and what if he decides to not just drift quietly in to the night, but makes a big media circus about being falsely accused, hes the real victim etc. Meanwhile, his victims (mostly women) have to shut up and accept it as usual….And how many men in America will think its ok to treat women how he has because whats the worst that can happen? No good can come from him walking.

MsNevermore · 02/07/2025 16:56

moto748e · 02/07/2025 16:52

Crossing State lines, maybe?

That was already established before charges were brought - all the charges were federal (ie across more than one state) as opposed to state charges.

FloofyBird · 02/07/2025 16:59

Seems it's unlikely he'll get the full whack in terms of sentencing due to it being a first offence. His legal team also want him released until sentencing. Why is that even allowed?

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 02/07/2025 17:05

Sad but not surprising.

I think a lot of famous / powerful people will be feeling very relieved right now.

And of course he fact he didn't out people gives him a lot of power over them.

I think he'll be out soon tbh. I dont hold out much hope that he'll serve a long sentence. He'll likely go right back to what hes been doing and he'll be wanting revenge.

I really hope I'm wrong and he'll get a substantial sentence, I really hope so. I just feel really cynical about it and cant help but wonder what's gone on behind the scenes.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 02/07/2025 17:06

Why wasn’t he charged with GBH / battery / rape? There was victim testimony and other evidence showing he was physically and sexually abusive.

user764329056 · 02/07/2025 17:08

You don’t find wealthy people in prison, go figure

I’ve also asked this.

That video of him horrifically assaulting Cassie in the hotel hallway will haunt me 😔😔😔

Izz81 · 02/07/2025 17:27

The fallout from this will be huge!
Women need to be very careful what men they go on dates with, get in to relationships with, I wouldn't advise young women to go to house parties even if they know the person. If this filth gets a low sentence and then makes a big show out of “Im the victim” its going to be bad for women in America, sounds dramatic but thats my honest feeling.

ElsaMars · 02/07/2025 17:46

I've just read that he said to his family 'I'm going home'. Well I really bloody hope not. Gutted that he clearly sees this as a victory. I dont think he'll get 20 years or even 10.

FancyCatSlave · 02/07/2025 17:51

He’s an absolutely vile specimen and I’m absolutely sure of his guilt but I did think some of the prosecution evidence was flimsy. Not that he didn’t do absolutely revolting things, but whether it was consensual. I wouldn’t want to have been a juror.
We all know that sexual offences are difficult to prove at the best of times and when celebrities are involved it’s even harder.

But I am glad he is found guilty of some offences at least.

Eurrgghhh, he is reprehensible 🤮

murasaki · 02/07/2025 17:52

They seem to be deciding whether to release him on bail before sentencing. I hope it's a no. He's a massive flight risk, and capable of threatening people.
