I am so shocked at this! Although I'm probably being naive.

Why wasn’t he charged with GBH / battery / rape? There was victim testimony and other evidence showing he was physically and sexually abusive.

He defence was he isn't a trafficker he's just a domestic abuser 😩

The racketeering charges were going to be very difficult to get a guilty verdict on because it's basically organised crime but there was only him, no network. Racketeering is usually for people in e.g. The mafia where there is a clear network.

This podcast was really good at explaining all the legal stuff in an easy to understand way

Utterly depressing. At a time where incel culture is where it is, this will not going to help.

As the verdicts were being announced I was watching them come through Live and I was with my Mum and her first comment was “he’s obviously a horrible man, why didn’t these women walk away?”

I see this for what it is, Sean Combs was in a position of power and he abused it and abused these women knowing that they would be too frightened to walk away or that they were desperate to have a career which he can (and did) destroy.

The question should never be put to victims “why did you stay” and should be put on to the abusers “why did you abuse people?”

Disappointing beyond belief.

Sad but not surprising.

I think a lot of famous / powerful people will be feeling very relieved right now.

And of course he fact he didn't out people gives him a lot of power over them.

I think he'll be out soon tbh. I dont hold out much hope that he'll serve a long sentence. He'll likely go right back to what hes been doing and he'll be wanting revenge.

I really hope I'm wrong and he'll get a substantial sentence, I really hope so. I just feel really cynical about it and cant help but wonder what's gone on behind the scenes.

I think the same as you.

Also what this will do in terms of victims coming forward in future.

I haven't followed the case closely but did listen to the New York Times 'The Daily' podcast yesterday.

They explained the racketeering case against him, and I thought it sounded a strong case: he had an army of enablers who booked hotels, bought copious amounts of baby oil, arranged lighting and film equipment, cleaners to clean up the mess, even nurses who came inject drugs! Plus organising the payment of $100,000 cash to a security guard for the footage of the hotel corridor assault - all these actions were well co-ordinated and executed by a team over a number of years - sounds like racketeering to me! Obviously not to the jury.

This is what I thought, but I do think because it was only him as a Pp and nobody else doing what he was doing then that's how was "innocent" a horrific human being i hope he is put away for a long time, seeing his mother and children walking out the court really disturbed me, his daughters are only teenagers how could they be made to listen to all that.

moto748e · 02/07/2025 19:27

So is it the implication that PD has kept schtum, but if he'd been found guilty on the racketeering charge, he'd have gone for the 'nuclear option', and taken a few down with him?

Maybe I was expecting to see more faces tbh but if he said it was just him the women and workers then that is what he has gone with, its all so sleazy and corrupt.

His children being there throughout the case, listening to all the details and him praying with them at the end - then they walk out of court, all smiling because daddy only got convicted on 2 charges - I feel I live in a parallel universe sometimes.
I was thinking Trump would have pardoned him anyway so what was the point.
depressing and awful.

Vitrolinsanity · 02/07/2025 20:39

I think a lot of the charges were too long ago for their law, the statute of limitations didn’t allow it.

Isn't that why they sue in America because of Statute of limitations they can't go to criminal court.

Whosenameisthis · 02/07/2025 16:30

I found it interesting when Chris Brown was imprisoned in the UK the amount of Americans who thought money would keep him out of jail. Had no concept of not being able to simply “pay his bail” and walk out.

it does seem if you have money you can buy your way out if things. Much like you can persuade someone not to “press charges” and pay them off - it’s up to the victim whether a case is prosecuted.

But it did help him. He paid bail and got let out. In the uk.

NotrialNodeal · 02/07/2025 22:13

The law is for the poor. You are grossly naive.

murasaki · 02/07/2025 22:21

No bail according to the Guardian. Good.

Coconutstopickupinthemorning · 03/07/2025 00:49

I hope his victims will be ok after speaking out against him..so worrying

crumblingschools · 03/07/2025 01:25

He sounds such a sordid person, can’t believe all the supporters of him cheering outside the court, even after hearing all about what he gets up to.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 03/07/2025 04:55

If even half of what was said in court about him was true, he's a monster and a danger to women.

I think the jury didn't understand domestic abuse and thought Cassie and the other witnesses were consenting to their abuse.

knitnerd90 · 03/07/2025 05:01

All the analysis I read in the US media suggests the jury did its job properly. The problem is that the prosecution didn't do a good job of backing up the most serious charges. As one article put it "they proved that Diddy is a horrible person but that's not a crime". If it were just letting celebrities off, or corruption, I don't think the jury would have convicted on the lesser charges either. I think it was simply that they didn't think the prosecution proved its case. It was a very technical result.

i am disgusted that the jury apparently thought Cassie consented. But relying solely on the victim is risky. There's still enormous prejudice against victims in this type of situation.

NautilusLionfish · 03/07/2025 05:03

I felt for Cassie testifying for so long while heavily pregnant then gets this. I think jurors don't understand coercion. People saying her texts like saying she was missing freak offs so bad show consent. But given how scary and powerful he was this was likely to please him not true consent. Perhaps not easy to legally separate but come on.
Luckily there are over 60 other lawsuits from various victims so either way, he is done for. I think. I hope

NautilusLionfish · 03/07/2025 05:10

He defence was he isn't a trafficker he's just a domestic abuser 😩

They had to say that because they couldn't get past that video. And they knew he already paid Cassie (was it US20M) so likely that charge can't be brought to criminal again. It just goes to show sadly how much the law fails victims of intimate partner violence (domestic abuse)

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 03/07/2025 05:37

Vile man who's vindictive, so will definitely want revenge.

The domestic violence wasn't put forward as he'd be out due to time served.

Sad watching the supporters celebrating.

Iamtarticus · 03/07/2025 05:47

I think he will still get a long sentence
