Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

I find it disgusting how people joke about her death

They do??

I’ve never heard anything bad said… it was an utterly awful way to die, her poor family.

undercovermarsupial · 01/07/2025 00:28

Michelle Trachtenberg 😔

You realise he was a kiddie-fiddler?

Im with you, but recognise it's still not proven and with all this Diddy stuff and MJ apparently having nothing to do with it, who knows....

Motheroffive999 · 01/07/2025 01:03

Queen Elizabeth, Tommy cooper on stage on TV as a child , he collapsed and the curtains were drawn immediately.
Princess Diana.
Steve Irwin.
When Michael Jackson died there were mums crying outside the school gate ,saying he wasn't really dead.

NeedZzzzzssss · 01/07/2025 01:22

Robin Williams. He was always so naturally hilarious and seemed so happy. My friend had died the same way a month before, I read the news on my phone while on a train and I felt physically sick 😪

Not wanting to be rude, but Queen Elizabeth? She was about 500 years old.

Not a celebrity but… the Queen Mother, she was so old and so permanent I had totally forgotten she could die.

I remember being shocked by Princess Margaret a little while before the QM. We saw a flag flying at half mast and someone commented that it could be for the Queen Mother. Never expected it would be for her younger daughter. I am not a royalist and didn't realise she had health problems. I'd forgotten about it until seeing the comments about other royals.

I really felt her death. Not a shock as she was old and I suspected it was imminent, but she had been the queen before I was born, and in fact as long as my mother could remember as well. She seemed like a fixed star despite knowing that of course she would eventually die.

ARichtGoodDram · 01/07/2025 01:44

A celebrity linked one that shocked was Anne Diamond's baby Sebastian.

The behaviour of the press at his funeral was memorably disgusting.

OK that makes more sense. And it was an end of an era, literally

FeistyCat · 01/07/2025 02:32

Gene Hackman. That such a talented and respected actor could have such an undignified death. That he could end up in that state and not be found for around 2 weeks. Not a fitting way for him to go. I was watching one of his movies recently and thinking he never would have thought he'd die in such an undignified manner. Truly sad.

Topsyturvy78 · 01/07/2025 02:32

Robin Williams one of the funniest people on TV but he was so sad inside.😭😭😭

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 01/07/2025 02:33

Victoria Wood

Chester Bennington, Louise Renninson, Deric Longden, Alan Rickman, Bill Turnbull, Angela Lansbury, Jerry Orbach, Richard Belzer, Queen Elizabeth II. 💔 I was at work when they announced the death of the Queen and I started crying.

wand3rer · 01/07/2025 02:51

Keith Flint and Sean Lock

BebbanburgIsMine · 01/07/2025 03:12

How could I forget Bruce Guthro!

He had an amazing voice, he put his everything into his singing, I thought Donnie Munro could never be replaced, but Bruce was a brilliant replacement.

HelenaWaiting · 01/07/2025 03:19

It's amazing the number of people knocking Caroline Flack who have somehow held the trial that didn't take place and found her guilty. The blood on the bedsheets was hers.

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 01/07/2025 03:39

Freddie Mercury
River Phoenix
Kirsty MacColl
Amy Winehouse
Robin Williams
Patrick Swayze
Stephen Gateley

Menobaby79 · 01/07/2025 05:29

Rik Mayall, oh I cried for days about that one. It was so unexpected and I've loved all the work he has done. He was one of those people who you felt like you actually knew, even though of course, you didn't. Bloody handsome aswell when he was younger.

WHYherewhyNow · 30/06/2025 22:25

It was her blood from an injury, from what I read. It was all blown up, and exaggerated in the media.

This would simply not be the narrative if the genders were reversed.

Women don't usually attack men in the manner this was portrayed . This was also a case when a woman didn't attack a man in the way that men do, the media tried to make it look the same thereby excusing men for it as 'women are just as bad'

mathanxiety · 01/07/2025 06:07

Michael Mosley - tragic and perhaps preventable.

Princess Diana - another tragedy. I still have vivid memories of the announcement and the subsequent events.

But the question we’re answering is about which deaths made US feel sad (or shocked). I was very sad at the Queen’s death - and in fact her great age made it worse for me because she’d been there all my life and it felt like losing a part of my own history.

I should have quoted the person that said they were saddened by MJ's death. I was shocked that anyone could feel like this about a paedophile, so therefore his death shocked me.

The queen dying at 96 shouldn't have been a shock to anyone, but ok yes I can understand why it made people sad.

lljkk · 01/07/2025 07:00

All the musicians & singers, who died when relatively young, drugs involved. Maybe more as a group than as individuals. Tom Petty, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Sandy Denny, Prince, Whitney Houston, etc.

Princess Di is the single event big one, paparazzi pursuit + no seat belt is a shocker and drugs (booze) part of that story, too.

FlamingoQueen · 01/07/2025 07:12

Meatloaf and Patrick Swayze.
