Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

Terry Hall’s death left me feeling very sad, as did George Michael’s. They were very different but were both important sounds of my teens. I got really immersed in Terry Hall’s music after his death - his version of Sense which he co-wrote with Ian Brodie is beautiful.

John Lennon - but more for the impact I remember it having on my dad when the news broke that morning as we were getting ready for school.

And Kirsty McColl - such a tragic accident.

Dave Myers (Hairy Biker) really got me. We went through cancer around the same time and I really thought he had beaten it and I always liked him. He also seemed like a genuinely lovely man.

Jill Dando
Brandon Lee
Luke Perry

Too much to catch up on but definitely Victoria Wood. I was much saddened by her death but full of admiration that she kept it quiet and dignified.

Cory Monteith from Glee, so unexpected. He seemed like a good guy.

Anxious2024 · 30/06/2025 21:42

Alan Rickman

It’s sad, but I think a lot of people forget she battered her partner. I wonder if everyone would have been just as sad if it was her partner battering her and he died. I feel sorry for her family but she should’ve gone to prison.

Well being dead kind out of gets you out of prison does it not? Yes she did wrong but we didn't get to find out what exactly happened and she was very troubled. That doesn't excuse what she did but the woman is dead so you fuming that she didn't go to prison is pointless and wrong.

Val Kilmer. I knew he was very poorly, but it was so sad. He was my favourite.

Failedcrunchymum · 30/06/2025 21:44

Anton Yelchin. He was so young and talented, just gaining more recognition, and his death horrified me.

I didn’t know this 😢

The only time I’ve been “shocked” was Peaches Geldoff. To read how she just repeated the death of her mother was so shocking, especially as her addiction had been kept so private.

Oh I see what you mean. I didn't give it any thought TBH, he was one of a great many celebrities for whom I did not dislike, but hadn't really given him much consideration beyond that. I remember at the time there was a lot of noise made about depression and suicide etc. I was more sad about him thank shocked.

I can think of a few celebrities where I was shocked they lived as long as they did, considering their lifestyles. I think the only death that really troubled me was that of Princess Diana, and not so much the fact she had died, but how it happened. It all seemed so surreal.

Yeah I was only around 7 when it happened and remember waking up and watching the news. Just felt weird.

The baby was left until they found her. Tragic that history repeated itself.

Naya Rivera was also a crazy one to read about.

I think I’m obviously most affected when a child is there to witness it.

Michelle Trachtenberg

Dimebag Darryl from the band Pantera. It was a sad day for metal when he was shot on stage

Really? I used to love pantera's cowboys from hell album. I had no idea one of them was shot.

IveGotAnUnusuallyLargePelvisISwear · 30/06/2025 21:49

Peaches Geldof’s death was so tragic, partly because she was so young but also because she ended up dying in very similar circumstances to her mother- drug related and alone with one of her children at the time. I can’t imagine what she must have gone through losing her mother as a child the way she did and ending up the same way despite her best efforts not to.

Cadenza12 · 30/06/2025 21:49

Elvis. The headline in the newspaper was The King is Dead. Which I thought was awful. Then I remembered that we didn't actually have a king, but the death of Elvis was even more shocking.

It is sad she took her own life but didn't she hit him round the head so hard he was covered in blood and rang the police thinking she was trying to kill him? She was charged with and going to be prosecuted for assault.

Wasn't the blood hers, and not his, as she self harmed after she hit him and it was portrayed in photos as his blood? The docu i saw about it said this hence her spiral into depression

How did I not know this about Mark? What a sad ending x

Absolutely awful. I felt so.. strange about that for such a long time, it was just unbearably sad. You never really know what life’s going to throw at you I guess.

Lougle · 30/06/2025 21:54

Princess Diana was a real shock. I was 16 and working in a newsagents. I woke up to my DM calling up the stairs to my father "Diana's dead!!" then I went and sold papers to shocked customers.

Robin Williams - such a funny man who was covering such sadness.

Edenmum2 · 30/06/2025 21:56

Heath ledger. Devastated.

PiriPiriMenopause · 30/06/2025 21:57
