Re: I sent a cross message onto the family group instead of directly to my husband . Deleted now, but l feel so ashamed and mortified … reached out to a couple of members to apologise but no response.. it may or may not blow over but please tell me your experience of sending messages to the wrong group so l don’t feel so alone in my stupidity …

I've told this one before but when my eldest was at primary it was pre WhatsApp and we had a class parents email group. There was a collection for teacher gifts at the end of each year so each teacher would get a spa voucher rather than multiple mugs and bottles of bubble bath. One year the class teacher was male and the group was wondering what to get him instead of a spa voucher. My husband emailed me (he thought) quipping "how about a spearmint rhino voucher" except he actually sent it to the whole group.

He phoned me in a panic and I said you just have to style it out and say sorry everyone that was meant as a private joke for wife, didn't mean to send to all. OK he said and started typing "I'm sorry .." but was on the train which jolted while he was still on the second word and he accidentally sent it prematurely and then noticed with horror that it had autocorrected to "I'm dirty".

Fortunately it caused hilarity rather than offence and he was teased mercilessly until our child had left.

Our younger child is nearly 10 years younger so when she started at the same school he said "at least there's no likely to be anyone left who remembers me". Sure enough first drop off he did he noticed a lady staring at him in the playground before announcing "oh I know you, it's Dirty Spearmint Rhino Dad!"

Tears rolling down my face when I got to the second text!

Selected photos from my phone to airdrop to the digital photo frame that’s on the wall in our kitchen, I kept ticking rows of photos by accident. Very easily done.

Kept deleting boring work ones etc. But what did I leave on there? A photo of my tits that I had sent to my husband. My son and his girlfriend were standing in front of it and enjoying it - laughing at funny childhood pics etc. Then they went silent. My son actually thinks I did it on purpose. But, thankfully, he thought it was a random arty shot (not of me) as it’s black and white and actually the shadow of my bare tits on a bright wall. But, embarrassing nonetheless.

Yikes but glad you go away with it 👍

My son accidentally sent me a d!ck pic instead of sending it to his girlfriend . Thankfully I realised what it was whilst still pixelated and got DH to delete it from my messages. I don’t know who was more traumatised DS or me 😂 😂

Someone I know posted a video with a dildo shoved up her fanny. Was meant for someone she was messaging on Snapchat. Ended up on her story and she fell asleep.

she woke up and removed it at 11am the next day..

Oh no!! That would be mortifying! That’s genuinely just… no. 😱

Ok so l wasn’t avoiding saying my balls up as it’s quite boring but it was a group chat where some members of the family were complaining that an elderly unwell relative wasn’t answering the phone to them and my message ( l thought to my husband ) was “ why are they expecting her to pick up the phone to them . …she’s not out on shenanigans, she’s in a hospital bed probably sleeping .. maybe visit her ? ” I sort of stick by what l said but l need to learn that not everyone needs to hear my opinion … even though they did !

I think that's a fair comment, own it!

More than 20 years ago now, I worked with a guy we all thought was really annoying. I sent an IM to my friend saying “why doesn’t he just shut up” but sent it to annoying guy by mistake. Retraction wasn’t possible. I just wanted to hide under my desk for the rest of the day.

I once seen an awful picture on the Facebook group "rate my plate".
I never reply on those but it really was disgusting looking. And anyone who knows the group will understand that much of the time people purposely post awful photos for the banter.

I cant remember the exact wording but I said something like "you must really hate your family to serve them something that looks like it's been shit out"

Only it wasn't Rate my plate. It was my local slimmingworld group page.I'd misread and posted that in reply to a members photo of her actual dinner.

I only realised once the leader inboxed me and said I'd really upset one of her members and she had to delete the post.

I never went back there again. Absolutely fucking mortified. 🙈

This is too funny. I can’t cope 😂

3luckystars · 26/06/2025 19:33

Im crying laughing at some of these ‘I’m dirty’ 😂

My friend did this and sent a really filthy message meant for her husband to her friend who is in a wheel chair and no way would she be able to do what my friend was suggesting. It was so so embarrassing. She never mentioned it.

I was having a bad day...

I felt my flatmate (who worked for the same company in another department) was selfish and messy.
I thought my close colleague was being lazy.

I got an email from the manager that tipped me over the edge, so I typed out two furious DMs

  1. I have a terrible manager and an awful flatmate because...
  2. I have a terrible manager and a lazy colleague because...

You can guess where I sent them...

And no I'm not friends with either of them now, but we were only ever intended to be there for a 9 month contract, and then we went our separate ways. I did repair the day-to-day relationship, mostly by saying "I'm sorry. I was being moody and unreasonable." and owning it.

She removed the video of.. achem.. a gigantic veiny black double ended dildo from her lettuce once she woke up to 200+ messages and calls.

she went completely MIA for 2 years and moved up north somewhere.

she's back again now and coincidently expecting a baby with the meant for recipient..

Was that meant to say lettuce?!

ConfusedSloth · 26/06/2025 19:46

I once thought I was on mute and said "oh my GOD, nobody careeeeessss" like a stroppy teenager about 5 minutes into DSis rambling on about DN being brilliant at something or other... No one acknowledged that I said anything and after a few seconds of silence she carried on getting him to stand on one leg and show us how good he is at it

I meant to reply ‘That’s hilarious! 😂😂😂’ to my sister with a text she sent about something amusing but accidentally replied to my lovely neighbour who had texted me to tell me about her husband, ‘Just to let you know, Brian has had stroke.’

I didn’t realise immediately until my neighbour replied with ‘?’.

It’s a really horrible feeling when you realise your error. Thankfully, my neighbour was fine about it.

I would own it because what you said was true 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Mehmeh22 · 26/06/2025 20:12

I kept sending updates on the shit show of my lovelife to the wrong person. I styled it out the first two times but she ghosted me after the third lol. Understandable as she was someone I hung out with while travelling for a week, not my best friend, who I was trying to send them too.

This was before WhatsApp too. Mortified.

JohnPrescottsPyjamas · 26/06/2025 20:14

I’ve just remembered a bloody embarrassing online meeting during lockdown.

DH and myself were parish councillors at the time and like many, we were all a bit new and unfamiliar with Teams, having only done Skype and video calling one to one before.

We felt a sense of achievement having connected up and seeing all the different faces of the council on our laptop screen. We also assumed that you had to press some sort of key to speak and be heard.

Unfortunately, neither of us realised that Teams picks up voices automatically and highlights that particular screen. DH whispered into my ear - and he’s not very good at whispering - “Oh god, here we go. XXXXX can be such a boring wanker once he starts!” Closely followed by me hissing back, “Shhhh, I think everyone can hear you!”

I tried to cover up our gaffe by deliberately making a lot of noise, obscuring the camera and creating a distraction by pretending to be looking something up. Nothing was said, but such a cringe moment.

I know how you feel but mine was work related. I said something about a colleague but put it onto the main chat rather than the private chat I was having about them. They saw it before I could delete it and asked if it was about them. I was totally mortified. There was no way I could wiggle my way out of it, so I telephoned them directly and admitted it and said it was through frustration etc. They accepted my apology so all I can suggest is that you hold your hands up and apologise if it was that bad.

EleanorReally · 26/06/2025 20:22

i whispered fuck off in a teams meeting.
Blush
luckily that was before the days of transcription and recording <<i hope>>

Theunamedcat · 26/06/2025 20:37

If that happened to me, I'd become a Buddhist nun, shave my head, and live in the mountains forever.

Not that I'd do something like that (no judgment though, it's just not my thing).
