Is 28 and 35 a big age gap?

LeftOutInTheRain · 26/06/2025 14:48

I met this man, and we were clearly interested in one another. He was reluctant to tell me how old he is, but I was glad to hear that he is 35, because I’ve always dated older. I asked him how old he thought I was, and he said “23.” He looked relieved when I told him I am 28.

Just wondering what people’s thoughts are on this age gap.

28 and 35 are absolutely fine. Enjoy!

Notupmyalley · 26/06/2025 14:50

Not even a thing.

How do you feel about it?

crumblingschools · 26/06/2025 14:52

That age difference is fine. I might be slightly concerned that he thought you were 23 but you said he was relieved you were 28

Are you roughly similar in outlook eg are your social lives similar, thoughts on children

PopThatBench · 26/06/2025 14:54

There’s 8 years between me and my partner and it works great for us. I think it depends on who/how you are as a person.

ninjahamster · 26/06/2025 14:56

That’s fine. About 13/14 years between me and my partner, we met when I was 23. Been married over 25 years now!

ShanghaiDiva · 26/06/2025 14:56

Absolutely fine imo.

blackheartsgirl · 26/06/2025 14:57

There were seven years between me and my late dh and it was perfect. Both had similar outlook on life and wanted the same things.

enjoy!

I look quite young in the face; most people guess around 20. But he also knew about my position at work, which requires several years to earn, so I logically couldn’t have been that young…

I was thinking he probably felt bad for having interest in someone he thought was 12 years younger and relieved that the difference was only 7 years

DH is 8 years older than me.

It's all fine.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 26/06/2025 15:01

I actually think it's ideal, for me that would be better than another 28 yr old. 35 is a very good age in a man's life I think

wayyytoomuch · 26/06/2025 15:01

I think it’s a completely normal age gap!

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 26/06/2025 15:03

I am 53. Dh is 44. Been married a decade and share 1 dc.

I agree. He has a house, a car, a career with upward mobility, emotionally mature, very self-assured… I haven’t found many men in their twenties to have all of that going for them.

I think it’s fine but the most I would be comfortable with. I had a long relationship with someone seven years older and it was only slightly noticeable but when I had a ten year age gap I found it harder but he was more of an ‘old-fashioned’ type.

DirtyBird · 26/06/2025 15:16

That's hardly an age gap that's noteworthy.

BountifulPantry · 26/06/2025 15:19

Completely normal age gap. Hardly worth noting.

summerisawesome · 26/06/2025 15:24

quite a normal age gap I thought , though in my friendship group I only know three couples with that kind of gap or bigger including DH and I - so maybe not as common as I thought

OddBoots · 26/06/2025 15:31

It is the age gap I have with my DH. It has worked out well for us.

We are now at the stage of thinking about retirement and the question is over if we retire together or at SRA or something between but that's not a question you need to have front of your mind just yet.

MascaraGirl · 26/06/2025 15:35

Its fine!

I always think i age gap relationship the younger person very much becomes the age of the older person (if you get what i mean).

7 years is not a big gap, can see why he was worried about a possible 12 year gap.

mumonthehill · 26/06/2025 15:42

I met DH at 22 he was 30 now been married for 26 years! He was more financially secure than i was at that time but it was never an issue for him and we pooled what we had together.

Fifthtimelucky · 26/06/2025 15:42

7 years is fine at those ages. It obviously wouldn’t be if he was 20 and you were 13.

user8429706521 · 26/06/2025 15:45

We have the same gap. Married 30ish years. However i would say I’m noticing the age difference more and more as we get older…I’m glad it’s not any bigger!
