How much screaming can you here from your garden

The sun's out. Understandably that means doors and windows are open and people are in their gardens. Unfortunately around here that seems to mean screaming. Yesterday it was a mum and son who are 'known' in the area, screaming at each other, calling each other names and swearing. Today it's been mainly a young girl screaming on and off all day, I don't mean crying I mean rage type temper screaming, like in a tantrum, but it's been happening intermittently all day long. It has driven me to Rightmove today. Is this normal where you are? Can you hear screaming from other houses in your garden?

Can't correct spelling mistake in title which will now irritate me forever.

Is the screaming that bad that you’d risk moving and potentially having worse neighbours? I have a 4 yr old who is very stubborn she will scream for a while if I’ve asked her to have a bath, as a parent I’m embarrassed but there is nothing we can do about it…. Are you a parent yourself?

Yes I'm a parent of junior age kids, and sometimes I'm the ones shushing my kids because they are being loud. I am not bothered by standard kid stuff, playing, even shouting if it's like high spirits having a good time.

What I'm talking about is 2 different neighbours screaming at each other. One is a mum with a teenage son, the council was actually trying to evict them last year for anti social behaviour. They were screaming at each other calling each other fucking cunts etc on off all day for 2 days.

Then to add to the joy, other neighbours in between shout at each other all day long, including shouting that they can't do x they're having a poo. They have got a little girl about 4yo who was screaming ahhhhhhhhhh style on and off all day long, which they then shout at her for, including stfu type swearing.

Yesterday, two other adults and two kids and I yelled, shrieked and laughed quite a lot from about 6-8pm in a garden in a suburban area. The kids had a water slide thing out and it was very exciting and fun. It was a special occasion and a rare get together. I did think about the noise and the neighbours but it was 2 hours maximum on a very hot day and over by 8pm. Seemed a reasonable thing in a family housing estate type place.

Haven't read all the posts as can't concentrate for the sound of heavy farm machinery going back and forth on the narrow lane😂

no screaming here, but i was on the phone to dd and could hear the noise from her neighbours!

I moved from a detached house in the country to a semi detached house with a play park virtually in my front garden. Next door is a mum with two kids and they all scream at each other most of the day every day. She often goes out (I suspect to get some peace) to the pub and leaves them home alone. They often have their Alexa in the garden and the constant shouting at it that goes with it and my own Alexa turning on. 🙄

Kids in the park are constantly screaming.

House on the corner regularly has Alexa in the garden on full volume along with screaming kids or jet washer backup noise.

It was always going to be a shock moving from the country to here but I do feel what I have here is excessive.

I had thought it might be a permanent move to here but I’ve now decided it’s temporary.

You must live near me. I have a neighbour who can’t do anything at a normal noise level. She’s always yelling. At Alexa, her kids, on the phone (all phone calls must be done in the garden with lots of shrieking). She even sits on the drive in her car having conversations with people on loudspeaker, while it’s running. It’s absolute bliss when she’s not at home.

Edited

I also have this neighbour!

Everything is just loud.

Conversations are shouted at each other.

Music is at full volume.

Sits on the driveway in the car with music blaring or phone loudspeaker.

Kids wail and howl and shout at each other.

She has just left for work / school and I can feel the tension leave my body!

Yeah that is terrible, I wouldn’t want to hear that kind of language. I’d be willing to move if it was me.

I’ve forgotten what peace sounds like. Last weekend I had three girls pissed sitting outside on the pavement shouting their heads off at 2am and one of them had clearly had a tiff with a boyfriend. This weekend dogs barking all night, car parking up sat outside the house at 5:30 in the morning with its music blaring and the bass going boom boom boom boom and last night somebody hadn’t closed their gate so that blew open and shut all night long. The day times are just constant building works. I’d say 13 years straight of building working ( minus the pandemic). I crave peace and quiet. 😩

Daftypants · 23/06/2025 17:16

At the moment I can’t hear anything except birdsong 🙂 but over the weekend kids on either side not screaming exactly but being very loud 🤪

It is not kids screaming but my friend (im sofa surfing) lives near Westfield (White City) and her road is small ands an ideal cut through to. Westfield. It also seems to be a 'hotspot'. so people march up and down the road continuously on their phone. Really I hate all people that march up and down on their phone whether ion the street, in Superdrug or a restaurant. Drives me insane! Oh and the drug dealers outside........

Very noisy shouting and screaming as 4 little girls, 3 doors down, play. I have taught myself to enjoy the sheer uninhibited joy of being kid, by remembering my own childhood.
