How much screaming can you here from your garden

The sun's out. Understandably that means doors and windows are open and people are in their gardens. Unfortunately around here that seems to mean screaming. Yesterday it was a mum and son who are 'known' in the area, screaming at each other, calling each other names and swearing. Today it's been mainly a young girl screaming on and off all day, I don't mean crying I mean rage type temper screaming, like in a tantrum, but it's been happening intermittently all day long. It has driven me to Rightmove today. Is this normal where you are? Can you hear screaming from other houses in your garden?

Can't correct spelling mistake in title which will now irritate me forever.

Some children are trampolining in the garden that backs onto our garage. There’s a lot of laughing and some shouting, followed by one of them shushing the others., but no screaming.

Meadowfinch · 20/06/2025 17:00

None. I can hear deer barking, kites screaming and Andy the farmer's tractor

TheChosenTwo · 20/06/2025 17:00

None. Bloody noisy birds though.
Can hear next door just chatting about the colour of paint they’re going to paint their shed. She wants it cream, he wants it navy blue. They’ve decided to do the top half cream and the bottom blue 😆 what a compromise!

henlake7 · 20/06/2025 17:00

None...which is weird. 2 doors down usually have kids out playing all day and 1 door down on the other side is on holiday so no kids there either.

Although walking the dogs this morning I heard 3 people effing and blinding in their houses to what was either pets or kids (really couldnt tell!).

It's all quiet here.

This silent. Can hear the birds.

BellissimoGecko · 20/06/2025 17:01

We live next door to a park so there is some screaming and play noises from the park, but it’s not too bad.

upandoutofbed · 20/06/2025 17:04

Jackdaws. Lots of them.

Usernumber12356 · 20/06/2025 17:07

The kid next door who is about 5 and still has regular shouty tantrums. Her older brother seems to be constantly winding her up. She shouts at him and then the parents shout at both of them. About 5 times a day.

I can also hear the kids from the nearby primary school at break and lunchtime but they're far enough away that it's quite nice background noise and not annoying.

There's a guy a few houses over who has a very loud voice and I hear him a few times a day play with his dog which seems to involve him yelling "Rex! Rex! Get the ball Rex! Get the ball Rex! Come on Rex!" about 500 times. He's the most annoying of all.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 20/06/2025 17:07

Live pretty much in the middle of a village but all i can hear are birds

hiredandsqueak · 20/06/2025 17:09

None but there are no children in any of the surrounding houses so it is incredibly quiet here.

DontTouchRoach · 20/06/2025 17:10

We don't really ever hear angry screaming, like people having rows or anything.

Next door's kids giggle and squeal when they're playing in their paddling pool, but that's not really what I'd call screaming, it's just squealing when they splash each other and things, not like temper tantrum screaming or anything.

However, one of their kids screams in the house A LOT in the evenings and also bangs on cupboard doors (or something, we're not sure). It's just a really loud, angry, prolonged yell, repeatedly. It's incredibly annoying and he's often still doing it at 1am but we haven't complained because we're assuming he's got some kind of special needs as he seems much to old to be having toddler-style tantrums, he's about six or seven I think.

One of our other neighbours a couple of doors down seems to teach some sort of martial art to kids in a home office type thing she's built in her garden. This isn't usually a problem at all but yesterday she had all the doors open and it seems to be martial art that involves shouting something every time you do a particular move, which quickly became a bit irksome after two solid hours. That's not a regular thing though and I'm sure she's equally irritated by my lawn mower and DP playing music all the time when the windows are open.

MerryGrimaceShake · 20/06/2025 17:11

It’s really peaceful here. Unfortunately as the family with the autistic preschooler WE are that family.

Any ask to come in or stop doing something or even just to wait a second means he starts screaming. I hate going outdoors as a result and outside is his favourite place. It’s extremely difficult and I worry all the time about my poor neighbours having to hear it so we barely go out.

SpottedDonkey · 20/06/2025 17:11

No screaming, but I can hear a bit of mooing, which isn’t surprising as my neighbours are a herd of dairy cows.

HangingOver · 20/06/2025 17:13

Daily here, woman opposite has a very angry child. But my dog barks back so I can't really comment.

Doughnut100 · 20/06/2025 17:14

My 4 year old is very emotional and screams about everything. Breakfast, clothes, bath, every toy, every food, every book. I often want to scream because of her screaming, but I don't. I help her learn to regulate her emotions by sharing my calm. I feel bad for anyone else that has to listen, including myself! But my priority is my daughter. I'm not going to stop her playing in the garden, or try to force her to swallow her emotions so it's more convenient for strangers. I totally understand how it would drive other people mad! But unless you can afford to live in a castle other people's noise is just an (unfortunate) part of life.

PickAChew · 20/06/2025 17:16

Just rush hour traffic and a particularly mellifluous blackbird, at the moment. The local kids are mostly quite civilised. I used to live near a screamer who was constantly ordering other kids around at the top of her lungs and it was torture on a hot day.

hyggetyggedotorg · 20/06/2025 17:17

No screaming, just birds at the moment. We do regularly hear dogs whining & yapping though.

Pedallleur · 20/06/2025 17:17

None. V.quiet area but my colleague lives in an area where it is noisy. Cars revving, people arguing/screaming/shouting. Would drive me crazy.

PandaG · 20/06/2025 17:20

Rarely. Kids a couple of doors up are sometimes noisy in the garden, but usually just playing noises. There's an infant school 3 mins away at the end of the road, if I'm outside or the windows are open at break or lunchtime there's sometimes squealing, but certainly loud playing noises, which actually are quite pleasant.

ComemosZanahorias · 20/06/2025 17:24

all was well here, nice and quiet as there are no children living within earshot. Unfortunately the people behind me have four small grandchildren whose parents seem to take every opportunity to leave their screamers round. So now they are all squealing their heads off and filling things with water. I’m in Ireland and have had PropertyPal and Daft open for the last hour since I finished work.

Bbq1 · 20/06/2025 17:25

People/children just randomly screaming? No it's very quie here . Right now I csn hear birds tweeting and the whirr of my fan.

TeenLifeMum · 20/06/2025 17:26

My teens are the youngest dc in the small cul de sac and they’re out so it’s very quiet.

Monvelo · 20/06/2025 17:28

I mean screaming / shouting at each other because they are horrible. Or sometimes to each other because they seemingly have no volume control. Not screaming while playing or screaming because they are Nd and it's how they are. I wouldn't be aggreved by that!

FinallyMovingHouse · 20/06/2025 17:34

None and I live 2 doors up from a nursery.
