I can't honestly see Parliament ever approving of our getting involved, so I'd be surprised if the government even tried. Thank goodness we got rid of the last government, I'd have felt much less certain with them.

I shall be writing to my MP to let them know that I don't support this government getting involved in Trumps folly.

The sad thing is that when 911 happened, the world was shocked and supportive of America, if things start happening now, the world will shrug its shoulders and say they brought it on themselves. The only thing that will change this opinion is a change of leader. They need to impeach Trump and his inner circle, they have overreached with potentially disastrous consequences.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 11:25

YouGov poll from a few days ago

"Only 16% of Americans think the U.S. military should get involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran; 60% say it should not and 24% are not sure"

Be interesting to see how that will change

Well there goes the Nobel peace prize again.

I need an idiot’s guide. Did Iran actually have nuclear capabilities because I’ve read conflicting things and I haven’t really read enough about it.

I have just listened to the emergency The Rest Is Politics podcast and would urge everyone to do the same.

Of particular importance was the discussion around the rule of law on pre-emptive strikes which Putin, Bibi and Trump have made meaningless, that this latest action shows the end of the UN as it is powerless. The what next bit re China makes a lot of sense too.

That it ended with the musing that today feels like pre WWII reminded me that day drinking and daytime disco are still options.

I'll have Bailey's in my coffee please.

Mauritius is an ally of Iran.

Britain will be required to inform Mauritius about any future air strikes on Iran because of Sir Keir Starmer’s Chagos Islands deal.
The Government’s decision to give away the Chagos Islands and lease back the Diego Garcia military base will mean that Mauritius will be told about about any future strikes in the Middle East.
The base, jointly used by the UK and US, has previously been used for bombing runs on Iraq and Afghanistan.
The US Air Force (USAF) has recently stationed B-2 long-range bombers there, which could be used if Donald Trump decides to launch an attack on Iran.
However, under the terms of Sir Keir’s £30 billion Chagos deal, the UK must inform Mauritius if the base is used to launch an attack on a third country.

Link to the article which says that there might be different interpretations of whether the notice has to be given before or after the event. One would expect Mauritius to reject such ambiguity, but it's Starmer's loophole.

Different interpretations, UK 'may' have to, all very carefully worded.

Telegraph made a big deal out of Chagos handover.

Explosions heard in Bushehr, home to Iran’s only nuclear plant
Explosions boomed Sunday afternoon in the Iranian port city of Bushehr, three semiofficial Iranian media outlets reported. It was not immediately clear what caused the blasts.
Bushehr is home to Iran’s only nuclear power plant, which is run with Russian assistance. Iranian authorities have not reported any problem at the plant.
Meanwhile, explosions also struck the city of Yazd in central Iran, with some suggesting it came from Israeli airstrikes targeting a power plant and a military garrison.

It was a typo, I corrected it and it changed it back again so I left it for accuracy. 😂

If anyone wants to watch Hegseth make a tit out of himself, the briefing is being carried live on AP news website.

ETA looks like Sky News and BBC are going to show it too, and it's running late.
You'd think the Pentagon would do stuff on time? 🤔
Maybe Pete is being given some cold coffee? 🥴😉

This is so close to the truth it isn’t even funny any more.

All those people who thought they could get away with not turning up to the parade, who thought they could stage 'no kings' protests instead of prostrating themselves before the dear leader.
Members of the military who thought they could get away with ambling instead of marching tightly in lockstep as if their lives depended on it.
Well, they'll all be laughing on the other side of their faces now won't they.

LlttledrummergirI · 22/06/2025 13:12

Watching Hegsworth now- what a crock of fucking shit! If he really believes the bullshit he has come out with he's a half with. His head is so far up Trumps arse it's unreal.

He thinks they actually conducted it in secrecy and hit full bunkers instead of empty ones as the whole fucking World including Iran knew it was coming. An absolute joke.

What's with the God speech as well? Ridiculous. The bloke is clearly a fuckwit. He really expects us to believe Trump planned this himself and the military merely did his bidding? Twat.
