Which three herbs?

I’ve been given a lovely planter with three pots. I’m going to have it in my kitchen for fresh herbs. Which three herbs would you choose? 🪴 🪴🪴

Do you like omelette aux fines herbes OP?

Chives, tarragon and parsley. Finely chopped in an omelette. Amazing.

I have no idea if you can grow tarragon in a pot though!

Ok tarragon is a perennial so it might get quite big but chervil is a more suitable one for growing in a pot.

Mint, rosemary, chives

The ones that don’t survive year-round outside! Basil coriander and parsley! (Assuming you are in the UK.)

This!

Rosemary, sage, etc better off outside.

Mint I always want more than could be grown indoors.

I've scrolled through 4 pages and no one has mentioned mustard cress! It's so easy to grow and elevates any sandwich, looks good as a garnish too. Mild mustardy flavour. Chef's kiss

Basil, dill, thyme.

There's nothing nicer than potato mayonnaise with fresh dill and you already have chives.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/06/2025 20:09

Parsley, Rosemary, Basil

That’s a good idea! I guess…curry, stir fry and something Italian-style ((vague))?

Ok, how about coriander, oregano and Thai basil?

Regular basil or parsley would also work with those meals. I find Thai basil and parsley the easiest ones to keep alive. I buy them from a garden centre as supermarket herbs in pots often don’t survive, but maybe someone more Green fingered than me can coax growth out of them 😂

Basil (for Italian meals), coriander (for an Indian curry) and parsely (for British food).

I love cooking but seem to have breathing problems with strong stuffy smells like basil and coriander (as well as lavender and rosemary) so would probably die growing herbs in my kitchen.

Edited, posted before reading you had bought your herbs.

I want to grow tarragon, I can never find it fresh!

Sossusvlei · 19/06/2025 05:26

UPDATE
I am a useless grower of herbs! My basil died (I found a HUGE caterpillar living off it) and my coriander looks like this…

Which three herbs?

Thyme going strong.

Thyme is lovely in a salad dressing.

Shedmistress · 19/06/2025 06:18

Cut that coriander, take out the dry leaves, wash and freeze it.

Then replace it with Lemon Verbena.

Basil, refresh the soil and sow some Holy Basil seeds in there.
