Who cleans the toilet in your house?

Exactly that really.

I'm 42 and been with my husband 13 years and I honestly think I could count on one hand the amount of times he's ever cleaned the toilet.

My dh and dc never clean the toilet. It’s always me. Partly because I’m a sahm by default - I’m disabled and haven’t worked for many years - and partly because they’re just useless at it and it bothers me more than it bothers them. (We’re talking teen / adult dc btw). They would just leave it and leave it and leave it. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄🤢

Ps34 · 27/05/2025 21:58

Yep that's pretty much the same here. I get the feeling of I did suggest sharing the chore the involvement would last little more than a week and it would just comeback to me again.

The person who dirties the toilet cleans the toilet. Our toilets stay clean because my husband and I clean them after ourselves and have taught our children to do the same.

DavidRosesEyebrows · 27/05/2025 22:01

DP usually does the bathroom. But I'll have a quick wipe round if it's getting loppy in between cleans . Not sure it would ever occur to the kids!

SandyY2K · 27/05/2025 22:01

Me.

Husband, maybe a handful of times in 26 years, but he would say otherwise.

Very annoying that no-one else does...not even my adult daughters.

I need to go on strike.

PabloRascale · 27/05/2025 22:02

Me. The glamour !

Overtheatlantic · 27/05/2025 22:03

We squirt bleach in it daily but the cleaner does it more thoroughly.

Radionowhere · 27/05/2025 22:03

Me. Grown up kids do their own. Not sure DH has ever done it 😒

Wigtopia · 27/05/2025 22:05

DP is the toilet cleaning and laundry hero, including stripping an remaking the beds. I am delighted that he took those jobs on. It wasn’t discussed, he just did it from the moment we started living together!

Thepossibility · 27/05/2025 22:10

I do, so I know it's done right. DH does the tedious daily job of loading and unloading the dishwasher so I think that's fair.

I would consider a strike but I think it wouldn't get anywhere and it would just end up with me giving in. My children are 12 and 9 though so not going to ask those two.

One week I do a big clean of upstairs (with bathroom) and him downstairs (with loo) then we swap. Gets cleaned when needed by whoever outside of the weekly clean.

Wowsers you found a rare gem there!

Every person if they leave it a mess. General cleaning probably 70% DH.

AnonKat · 27/05/2025 22:12

Bathrooms are my husbands job!

RedOtter101 · 27/05/2025 22:13

Always me. If I died our toilets would turn from white to brown inside and out and neither my husband or son would notice, or care. I think they genuinely can't see dirt

Copernicus321 · 27/05/2025 22:13

DH does all the cleaning every week (vacuuming, dusting, skirting, kitchen, bathrooms, mopping, all the washing) has done for years. Some of my BF's have the same arrangement with their DHs. However, you rarely come across this being mentioned on MN, I guess we don't have anything to complain about so we don't post... well not about the cleaning.

ObliviousCoalmine · 27/05/2025 22:13

The cleaner. Before that it was me. That’s why I got a cleaner.

TheFairyCaravan · 27/05/2025 22:14

DH cleans the one in the main bathroom because that’s the one he uses. I do the one in the en-suite because I use that one, and I do the downstairs loo because I’m at home all day whereas he’s not.

Octavia64 · 27/05/2025 22:14

Cleaner.

I am disabled.

Same here.
I can't imagine it being any other way. It's hardly a difficult task.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 27/05/2025 22:15

Either me or DH. We have four toilets.

SantanaBinLorry · 27/05/2025 22:18

Genuine question OP - why wouldn't you ask (teach/show) your 9 and 12yr old to clean the loo?

What age do you think they will learn?

Nacoesdoesdim · 27/05/2025 22:20

DH does.
I just can't. It's never really dirty because we regularly use bleach but I have a ridiculous gag reflex.
If I am unwell and need to vomit I have to use a bowl.

Most definitely! I also quite like the militant attitude he has towards it too 🤣

while not as prescriptive with clothing, there are specific days that towels, tea towels and bedding are cleaned each week. A deviation from the schedule does happen but not very often!
