Who cleans the toilet in your house?

Ps34 · 27/05/2025 21:44

Exactly that really.

I'm 42 and been with my husband 13 years and I honestly think I could count on one hand the amount of times he's ever cleaned the toilet.

One really doesn't know.

One suspects a chauffeur or someone similar, after they have finished cleaning the
motor cars.

But one KNOWS who one would like to see cleaning toilets...

TheDogsMother · 27/05/2025 22:24

80% of the time it’s DH.

Piratejenny99 · 27/05/2025 22:24

My DH cleans the toilets and also does all the ironing. We have divided all the major cleaning jobs in a way that seems fair.

rainbowsparkle28 · 27/05/2025 22:25

Erm…me, me, and me (perks of living by yourself huh? 🤨😂). In all seriousness though - why on earth is your husband not as well?! Assuming everyone uses the toilet so equally should. And that is for more of a deeper clean - the person making the mess should be cleaning up after themselves on a day to day basis not leaving it grim for others to have to deal with 🤢 That is just general consideration and respect for others also living in the same household.

Genuine question OP - why wouldn't you ask (teach/show) your 9 and 12yr old to clean the loo?

What age do you think they will learn?

Just think they are both still too young to be handling bleach etc. my youngest daughter does watch me clean though as she is my little shadow.

The person who dirties the toilet cleans the toilet. Our toilets stay clean because my husband and I clean them after ourselves and have taught our children to do the same.

This.

I can't understand why any adult wouldn't.

HippyChickMama · 27/05/2025 22:29

Dh does it every morning before he leaves for work. He’s up a couple of hours before everyone else due to his shift so he gives it a wipe and a quick scrub and flush and then toilet duck left to sit until the next person up flushes it

Endofyear · 27/05/2025 22:30

Me 🙁 don't think I can ever remember DH doing it (might have a quick sweep with the loo brush but not a proper clean) you've got me wondering now how many times I've cleaned the toilets in the last 35 years....2-3 times a week = around 5,500 times? And we have 3 toilets so that's 16,400ish? 😳

Chewbecca · 27/05/2025 22:30

DH. We split chores pretty evenly and bathroom cleaning is one of his. I’m not great physically so anything like that is his.

LostMySocks · 27/05/2025 22:30

DH sticks bleach down the loo if it's grotty. DSs are a little young to deal with bleach but have been 'trained' to report misaims so they can be wiped up.
I still do the bathroom clean and clean underneath the seat. I've started giving a report on the news for this as obviously it's not me!

BitOutOfPractice · 27/05/2025 22:31

We have two toilets. We each have responsibility for one each. Tbh it’s not a massive chore because we clean as we go.

I seriously could not and would not live with a man who didn’t do his fair share of chores like this. In fact he does more.

I know this is a mn cliché but really @Ps34 your bar is at floor level.

hereismydog · 27/05/2025 22:31

I do the bathroom and kitchen ‘main’ clean, but the toilets are restored to the condition they are found in by whoever uses them, so they are never really dirty. The kitchen is cleaned and tidied every night before we go to bed because we both hate coming down to a messy kitchen in the morning.

DP does the hoovering because I absolutely loathe that job! He also took over the cat trays when I was pregnant, and seems to have forgotten it was ever ‘my’ job Grin

Laundry is done by whoever is brave enough to tackle the ever-growing mountain of sicky baby clothes first.

RedOtter101 · 27/05/2025 22:33

Can I be odd and say I enjoy cleaning! My husband is an expert at DIY and gardening so that's his area. I have to say I find a morning pottering around hoovering , dusting, bathrooms, etc with a good podcast very relaxing.

Ps34 · 27/05/2025 22:35

How old are all your husband/boyfriends who do clean the toilet?

I'm going to ask him to do it this weekend and suggest splitting the chore but I strongly suspect it would soon just end up not being done until I do it or pester him.

Ha yeah it seems my bar is indeed low.

DH does our 3 every weekend. I haven’t cleaned a loo since 2010. 😀 (I do do other cleaning though, probably about 40% of the overall housework)

TeenLifeMum · 27/05/2025 22:38

I shove down bleach and use a silicone brush thing as and when needed (cleaner does it weekly). I kind of assume dh does the same as I very rarely find skid marks - if I do it’s in the dc bathroom toilet so assume that’s done by the dc. It’s a “modern” toilet so rectangular and bloody uncomfortable so only dc use that one.

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2025 22:39

Me.

But I'm also the only one who uses it because I live alone 😆

TeenLifeMum · 27/05/2025 22:41

Dh is 45. We both work full time and up until November I was also studying for a masters level qualification so dh properly stepped up. He does there majority of the clothes washing and spent his day of annual leave today clearing out the study/toy room so I can have some sanity working from home (I was doing other jobs).

hereismydog · 27/05/2025 22:42

Mine is 38.

If you are feeling generous, I’d suggest giving yours a quick rundown of what the different cleaning products are for and then leave him to it. That way, he can’t complain that he ‘doesn’t know how’ to do it.

ZebraPrintt · 27/05/2025 22:46

Me have our own toilets, mines upstairs, my boyfriends downstairs. I refuse to clean his toilet so we clean our own!

Ps34 · 27/05/2025 22:49

Just for the record my husband does wash dishes, antibac kitchen tops, put the bins out, irons his own clothes, puts a washing load on unprompted, washes the cars and does the majority of the gardening stuff. He's not exactly a slob.

I'm genuinely surprised and positive encouraged with the feedback and will ask him to do this weekend and see how it goes. Wish I posted this earlier now before I cleaned it tonight ha.

Tumblingthrough · 27/05/2025 22:51

I’m assuming DH does because I don’t but they’re always clean 😂

justmeandmyselfandi · 27/05/2025 22:53

Cleaner, although my DH used to before we had one. Weirdly, everyone I know their DH tends to do the cleaning of the toilets (even though they're generally useless in all other ways! 😅). Obviously everyone cleans up after themselves though so they're not ever dirty.

Blacknosugarplease · 27/05/2025 22:55

My husband deep cleans the bathroom every weekend. And it’s given a light clean as and when required by whomever ‘used it last’.
