Who cleans the toilet in your house?

Exactly that really.

I'm 42 and been with my husband 13 years and I honestly think I could count on one hand the amount of times he's ever cleaned the toilet.

OP posts:
ParsnipPuree · 27/05/2025 23:07

My cleaner.

Just think they are both still too young to be handling bleach etc. my youngest daughter does watch me clean though as she is my little shadow.

Well, not everyone agrees but you don't really need a big raw dollop of bleach for each clean. (We have a bleach spay made up)
Teach them both how to do it safely, and monitor til they're fine.
Can't member when I started with mine...toddlers with age appropriate helping probably 😅
They are 17 and 14 now and do it without thinking, and sometimes not brilliantly. But at least they've NEVER thought it was just my job to to!
When my OH joined the family he soon also picked up it was everyone's job. He's 45.

RabbitsRock · 27/05/2025 23:41

Usually DH but I tend to whizz the Fresh Brush round if the loo is particularly minging or I chuck some bleach down it. DD16 used to help out & was actually brilliant at cleaning the loo but she hasn’t done it in months.

samarrange · 27/05/2025 23:58

DP does the ordinary day-to-day cleaning (bleach, brush, etc). I do the second-level cleaning, which means: the outside of the bowl including round the back (it's not built in to the wall); unclipping the seat and cleaning both it and the spindles; and putting vinegar down the bowl for an hour to get rid of incipient limescale buildup. I get twitchy when I'm at someone else's house and there are tongues of grey limescale in the bottom of the loo.

How old are all your husband/boyfriends who do clean the toilet?

I'm going to ask him to do it this weekend and suggest splitting the chore but I strongly suspect it would soon just end up not being done until I do it or pester him.

He’s 74. Honestly this is not some sort of elder abuse, he really is very fit and healthy 🤣

Nourishinghandcream · 28/05/2025 00:06

We both do our own but I probably do the downstairs loo more than him.
We have separate bathrooms upstairs (works for us) and we do our own cleaning.

cheesycheesy · 28/05/2025 00:06

Whoever leaves skids on it. And the cleaner once a week. I’ll clean it if my 5 year old leaves a mess but I’m not cleaning up the shit of a fully grown capable man. Dh can clean his own mess and would never expect me to.

MumChp · 28/05/2025 00:08

We all do.

PorgyandBess · 28/05/2025 00:11

A bit of everything - me, my husband, kids, the cleaner.

The cleaner does them really well but comes only 1x per week, I like the toilets cleaned daily. Just a wipe and some bleach.

LoudPlumDog · 28/05/2025 00:16

Me mostly, but others know how and will when needed.

I do the deep clean weekly - unclipping the toilet seat and soaking in the bath with a swig of bleach.

Vodkamartini3olives · 28/05/2025 00:18

Me! I do it daily. I gladly trade it for taking out the bins, sorting recycling, cleaning the septic filter and mowing the lawn.

CoastalCalm · 28/05/2025 00:18

I clean mine and the downstairs loo and he squirts a bottle of bleach into his ( or it seems that way from the amount of bleach we go through)

Balanch · 28/05/2025 00:25

Dh does pretty much all the cleaning, including the toilet

HeddaGarbled · 28/05/2025 00:26

Everyone cleans their own skid marks. H and I about equal on the weekly clean, though I prefer cleaning bathrooms to hoovering so if I can get in first, I will.

mathanxiety · 28/05/2025 01:34

It was DS until he moved out. Now it's me. Everyone does their own pebble dashing and skid marks. I just tackle the hard water residue.

DryDays · 28/05/2025 01:54

SantanaBinLorry · 27/05/2025 22:18

Genuine question OP - why wouldn't you ask (teach/show) your 9 and 12yr old to clean the loo?

What age do you think they will learn?

I was brought up in a wealthy household cleaners etc. I had no idea how to clean a loo until uni, and remember the sportsmaster laughing at me aged about 10, in good humour as he asked me to sweep. I held the brush with one hand. Seriously teach your children how to clean. It is a lifeskill.

WhoreForSoupDumplings · 28/05/2025 01:58

I think it’s split pretty 50/50 between me and DH. If anything he may do it slightly more than me as he does all the washing so when he grabs the hamper from the bathrooms he scrubs the toilet at the same time if it needs doing 🤣

repeatingabaselessclaim · 28/05/2025 02:10

Me, and I can't imagine it being any other way.
The one who fits the rubber gloves is the one that has to clean the toilet and my fella could never find gloves big enough to fit him so I'm the one that takes the rags, the bleach, the vinegar, the toilet brush, and gets down and dirty.
He will give it a swish with the brush when necessary but it's me who does the deep clean.

Mikart · 28/05/2025 06:01

Dh loves cleaning....he deep cleans the bathroom weekly, hoovers, washes the floors......I have no problem with doing it but he actually enjoys it!

MightyGoldBear · 28/05/2025 07:37

We all do. But my husband particularly will make sure our boys know how to clean the toilet and they see him cleaning it. He cannot stand the state of men's toilets in public and at work. He will often pull up men at work for being animals.

Rubyupbeat · 28/05/2025 07:41

Me and only me, 40 years down the line.
Mind you they don't leave the toilet dirty.

greengreyblue · 28/05/2025 07:42

I do it but then he does jobs I never do.
zEveryone cleans up after themselves but I’m assuming you mean a weekly clean?

Rubyupbeat · 28/05/2025 07:49

Out of interest, how do you get rid of the limescale around the rim of the toilet? I have never mastered it.

Lulu1919 · 28/05/2025 07:50

We both do ..depends whose around
But to be fair I bleach and use loo brush ( silicone ) type daily

Tulipsontoast · 28/05/2025 07:51

Me, I like cleaning the toilet and bathroom. Dh likes cleaning the kitchen.
