Worst thing you left at home when you went on holiday?

Years ago, I did a quick clean of the kitchen, just before leaving for a fortnight away. Completely forgot about the dog's bowl which was on the floor with some dog food in it. When we returned, kitchen had a weird smell, and the bowl was a seething mess of wriggling maggots!

Really? Water bowl as well? DDog has dry food, and water, I literally can't remember the last time the bowls were washed. But he's nine now, so can't be doing him too much harm?

Yes, are they not scummy? Especially the water because bacteria sticks around on them

I've forgotten pyjamas more than once.

I'm not surprised that PP's have forgotten underwear. I am surprised that some of them decided to wear the same pants all week or go commando most days. How much does a multipack of pants cost? And there are very few places you can't buy them.

That so not true re ease of finding underwear! Ive just had this same problem with DH in ….Paris!!!

Mydustymonstera · 27/05/2025 18:06

glasses (very short sighted and had contact lenses)
pants!
dh forgot his coat
also have an accidentally switched off freezer story. Yuck.
toothbrushes

I have a wraparound garden and gate. So I leave the front doors open when loading the dogs and kids in as there’s no danger of anyone running off!

I was still loading the car when she jumped out of the boot and managed to get back inside without my noticing 😁I just carried on packing the backseat with the bits in the hallway (and dealing with a screaming toddler) and then locked up, shut the boot (which I always leave open until the last moment as it does get a bit cramped with so many dogs) got in and drove off!

In my defence, when you have five dogs it’s very easy to overlook one or miscount!!!

I see. 😁 Although I'm a tinge disappointed that far from having an intrepid adventure, Pooch hadn't even left home by this point! 😅

Definitely need a paw count in future. 🐾

I don't even wash my own bedside table water glass ever every day.

And yet here I am, and here is DDog.

How stupid of me to have joked on such a serious thread. I can only apologise.

Someone's not getting the joke here, and it ain't LSA...

TheNightingalesStarling · 27/05/2025 18:13

@LandSharksAnonymous was the errant dog called Kevin? Very easy to leave Kevin behind...

We also once got home to discover the freezer had died while we were on holiday. The smell was horrendous.

That had happened, to us, twice 🤢

And sheep shit, here.

But oh noes, the fly footprints!

Jaq27 · 27/05/2025 18:18

Packing for our first weekend away without the children, staying in an upmarket hotel. I ironed and hung 2 lovely dresses and a silky blouse on the wardrobe door … and forgot to put them in the suitcase.
Had to go to dinner in cargo pants and tshirts for the 2 nights. I was very upset with myself.

lanthanum · 27/05/2025 18:18

We once went on holiday with "everything but the kitchen sink". Unfortunately, the washing-up bowl is essential when camping.

I don't know why you are being so arsey about it that poster asked a question and pp.including me answered. I don't think there is anything wrong with rinsing out a dog bowl but each to their own I don't think I was sarcastic or arsey with my response!

Koyo · 27/05/2025 18:21

Entire suitcase.

London to Pembrokeshire. Right pain in the arse.

Someone I knew left her contraceptive pills at home, didn’t realise till they got to the ferry at Dover, they rebooked for a later ferry and went back for them. Not sure what excuse they made to their three teenage children 😳

God it would have been easier to just not have sex 🤣🤣

Dingalingalong · 27/05/2025 18:28

Roasted cauliflower, left the dish in the oven (oven was off). Came back 15 days later and it was absolutely foul! The whole downstairs stank!

gianfrancogorgonzola · 27/05/2025 18:30

We were driving at night so gave very little DD/DS dinner / bath / pjs as usual, lifted them into the car and set off. Five hours later realised we hadn’t put in their shoes 😂

UnctuousUnicorns · 27/05/2025 18:30

The left behind unrefrigerated food posts on this this thread are just rank! 🤮 😅

LoserWinner · 27/05/2025 18:37

Went camping and left the tent dolly pegs at home. Fortunately, we were only about three-quarters of an hour drive from home, so my husband went back to fetch them while we cooked supper.

TaggieO · 27/05/2025 18:47

This is my DH’s speciality. He’s forgotten his suit when going to a wedding. He’s forgotten his swimming things on a beach holiday TWO YEARS IN A ROW. I’m not sure he has ever remembered his toothbrush.

The roofbox keys.

All the fun stuff was in the roofbox, including the gin…!

Not quite the same but we had packed stuff in a trunk on a roof rack for a 3 week holiday staying with friends. Stopped off on the way on an extremely hot day in Australia. Guess where I'd packed my swimming costume! My Dad got the trunk down and we found the costume but I did a lot of swimming underwater that evening 😂I think I was about 10.

cocoloco23 · 27/05/2025 18:55

HRT.

All my underwear, including socks

Separate holidays, thankfully
