Are you a royal or a film star. That's high maintenance. Or am I out of touch with reality.

I don't know if you're out of touch with reality but you are coming across as judgemental. People have different ways of enjoying themselves or feeling 'together', I guess this is OP's.

@GreenYodaFace I get an annual haircut. All else I can do myself.

Sockmate123 · 06/05/2025 23:38

Is the Lumea good? Is it painful?

It’s good. I found it helped a lot. The painful it depends on the person. I found it not painful at all (for context my complexion is more Mediterranean) but my husband found it very painful even on the lowest setting.

Funnywonder · 06/05/2025 23:44

Nothing. Not even a haircut. My hair is wavy/curly and if I snip the ends myself the wonkiness gets lost in the general mayhem. I think😅

I have never had my nails done. The very thought of someone arsing about with my nails makes me shudder.

I used to get stuff done, but I never felt the end result was worth the degree of discomfort I suffered.

God, I sound like a right misery. I’m not really!

SquashedMallow · 06/05/2025 23:45

I have my hair done (I'm going to be blunt : I HATE going to the hairdresser's. I can't seem to get one that doesn't understand my hair won't lift using these stupid new non bleach based products) so I end up with patchy orange hair and paying handsomely for it. Really pisses me off. I'm now on yet another hairdresser who I hope will be better. Eye watering cost.

Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent. I hady eyebrows tattooed (over plucked in the 90s) glad I did. Rip off beautician wants to charge £450 for a yearly top up, that's a discounted rate from the £250 for a 6 monthly 🙄. I'm perimenopausal and sick of being treated like a tosser by these industries. So I've stuck my heels in on this one and colour them in to 'boost' them with an eyebrow pencil.

The big puffy lips now look "old hat" not cool anymore. It's a money spinner. No thanks.

Botox ? Nope. I'm sure I'd love to look younger. But you can not and will not stop age happening. You're hooked once you start it. People are mugs that start that expensive journey.

I do think teeth are important. So I will probably cave and get an expensive brace to straighten a couple of small gaps up and probably get them whitened (not Hollywood stupid white)

The beauty industry is making people extremely rich right now. Don't feed it. You don't win against ageing. Mugs game.

Hellohelga · 06/05/2025 23:48

Hair cut every 4 months.

Do everything else myself - fake tan, lash tint, nails, leg and pits shave.

queenofthesuburbs · 06/05/2025 23:50

To those who cut their own hair....how do you do the back???

ninjahamster · 06/05/2025 23:53

Nothing really. Occasionally colour my hair. Haven’t had it cut in 5 years. Have trimmed the odd bit myself. Don’t wear make up, don’t do my nails.
Do shave my armpits and a bit below but not my legs.
no eyebrow shaping or eyelash tinting or Botox.

Edited

No I have my own little extravagances too. I was just surprised as qit did seem a lot of visits to a beauty salon and hairdressers.

monktasmic · 06/05/2025 23:56

No Botox or filler. About every 4 months I either have my hair cut or coloured (never the same appointment).
nails every 2 weeks?
brows - never
I don’t know what people are doing to their lashes that I’m missing out on?
I do my own hair removal.
facials and massages - I do probably 2-3 times a year each.
I get my toenails cut / feet hacked twice a year by a podiatrist- and get shellac after that.
im quite low maintenance- and if I’d not been recommended by a pal to get my nails done I’d not be doing anything with them - sadly the first person to ‘do’ th has split them too to bottom 😭

LeaveALittleNote · 07/05/2025 00:05

Nothing, apart from the occasional massage.

I’m quite high maintenance, but I do it all myself at home. I cut and colour my own hair, do my own brows, whiten my teeth, do IPL hair removal, and fake tan very occasionally (only before a holiday or event). I just use standard nail polish - no extensions or gels. I have an Omnilux mask, so I can do my own red light treatment.

I haven’t had Botox yet, but will probably try it one day out of curiosity.

seaelephant · 07/05/2025 00:06

Haircut every 6 months. Box dye highlights once a year.

That's it. Never had anything else.

Lovingthehamsterwheel · 07/05/2025 00:23

Mid 40s, just get my hair cut and coloured every 6 months.
If I am going on holiday I get nails and pedicure.
I home colour my hair every 4 weeks.
Nothing else.

Mmhmmn · 07/05/2025 00:26

Highlights to battle greys. That’s it, I cba with other stuff. Razor in the bath for epilation (if that’s a word?!)

nowseehere · 07/05/2025 00:29

Haircut every 5-6 years approx.

Never had any of the other things done. Not dyed my hair, I only cut my nails, I shave my own legs and underarms, I don’t do anything to any other hair.

I don’t do anything to my eyebrows and eyelashes other than put mascara on. I’ve never had Botox or a spray tan or sunbed or fake tan of any kind. Never had a facial.

CaptinKitty · 07/05/2025 00:37

Botox every 3 months
Root tint every month
Balayage and haircut every 6 months
Gel polish manicure every 3 weeks
Gel polish Pedicure every 3 months (my toenails seem to grow extremely slowly!!)
Facial every month
Eyebrow and top lip threading every 3 weeks

Not sure if it counts, but I also am on weight loss injections, so that is a monthly expense too

18 months ago I had nothing done bar the eyebrows as we always seemed to be saving money for bigger things (house Reno etc). Then we had 2 close friends die very young and very suddenly, which made me realise life is too short to put off things that make you feel good about yourself.

tinyspiny · 07/05/2025 00:42

Hair cut 8/12 weeks , I don’t do nails / toes , occasionally pluck a random eyebrow hair . Don’t shave as I don’t grow body hair ( due to a disease I have ) . I’ve never dyed my hair or had any type of cosmetic treatment .

LBFseBrom · 07/05/2025 00:43

GreenYodaFace · 06/05/2025 22:21

I have eyebrow and leg wax every 4 weeks
Hair coloured and cut every 8 weeks
Botox every 4 months
Have a spray tan, nails ,make up done for special occasions.

Blimey, I never have anything done.

guineapigsears · 07/05/2025 00:46

Head to toe waxing every 4 weeks
Gel nails every 3 weeks
Hair every 6 weeks
Botox every 5 months

I think that’s it, and I’d genuinely consider myself to be quite low maintenance. I certainly don’t look particularly glamorous.

OudAndRose · 07/05/2025 00:47

3-4 haircuts a year is all I have done in a salon except the odd manicure for certain occasions.

I'm bloody high maintenance at home though - tint my own lashes, medical grade skincare, prescription tret, LED light mask, make up on the daily... etc.

What's your take on the LED mask? I'm quite curious about them!

I haven't really used it consistently to know about skin results. I use it for ant-ageing and it's supposed to be clinically proven. I think I see an improvement but can't be sure. But I used to have a targeted red light 'laser' thing for spots when younger and that definitely worked like nothing else.

What I have found surprising, though, are the mental health benefits - it's incredibly relaxing. I use it last thing at night and it sends me straight to sleep. There is evidence for that too, it just doesn't get marketed that way as much.

That's quite interesting, actually. I have watched a lot of derm doctors on YT and that's when my interest was piqued. The masks have become quite affordable, too.

beachcitygirl · 07/05/2025 01:05

Mani pedi once a month
hair do & colour every six weeks

thats it.

ProseccoandPizza · 07/05/2025 01:27

Full head of highlights every 12-26 weeks
Acrylic nails every 3 weeks
pedicure monthly during the summer
I wear individual lash extensions daily but I refresh the set every week.
Never had any Botox or fillers but considering now approaching 40.

Babyenroute · 07/05/2025 02:01

I’m amazed at how many people cut their own hair! And tempted to try!
