Interesting thread!

Before Covid lockdowns (which were 18mths in my city, Melbourne)

Hair cut, treatment, dyed and highlighted 6-8 weeks
Eyebrow tint & wax 4-6 weeks
Eyelash tint 4-6 weeks
Mani / pedi every 6-8 weeks.
Leg waxes 8 weeks
Shave other areas.
Massages 4-6 weeks
Lots of money on luxury cosmetics / wonder potions / expensive sunscreen

Then in lock down my hair grew out. I'd been dying since I was 18 because it was a mousy blond/brown. I always hated those dull roots sprouting from whatever colour I'd dyed it - red, black, blond. When it grew out more than root length, it was so much softer than my chemically frazzled hair, and it developed interesting white streaks from age / gold from sun so I left it. And I love it now.

Now

Hair dresser every 6 mths.
L'orel foundation and potions.
Cancer council sunscreen
Still luxury brand eye products because of eye sensitivities.
OPI products mani/ pedis at home.
Shave.
Pluck eyebrows

I once calculated home much I spent on all that 'beauty' stuff and how much compound interest I could have earned if I'd saved instead and I wanted to go back in time and slap my younger self.

I’m amazed at how many people cut their own hair! And tempted to try!

I did it for the first few times during Covid. It was shockingly easy.

I never went back because I have really bad allergies and getting haircuts had become very difficult in the lead up to Covid. I was so happy to figure out it wasn’t necessary.

I get my hair cut when it gets longer than collar length, so I can wear it down in my military uniform. Maybe every 1-2 months. I color it myself with box dye when my roots get noticeable (every 4-6 months.)

I had fillers once in my nasolabial folds and tear troughs, but my experience wasn’t great (the aesthetician couldn’t pierce my skin with the needle for some reason?) and also I hear that the fillers don’t actually dissolve like they say they do. So I haven’t gotten that done again.

I used to get PRP every couple months (works wonders! People thought I was 16-18 when I was 27), but it was very expensive and it was a pain in the butt not to go in the sun for 3 days after each session… I started using a dermaroller to microneedle about once every 1-2 weeks, and I put this special peptide cream on it from Korea that helps it heal super quick… I do my regular skin care routine 2x daily.

Shaving and waxing…whenever DH starts to complain about it 😅Nails done once every few years, after I forget how badly having fake nails/nail polish on triggers my sensory issues. Sometimes eyeliner, mascara and blush if going out on a date with DH, but generally not because I think I might be allergic to my supplies (my eyes puff up horribly afterwards, even if I clean it off thoroughly)

Maddy70 · 07/05/2025 03:01

Hair every 6-8 weeks
Botox and filler when needed

Hi,

Like you I have bad reactions to eye make up. I always look for brands that are tested to 'Ophthalmology' standards. Even then, personally, the only eye make I can stand is by Lancome or Clinque. I have reactions from Revlon, Natio, Este Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Chanel, Clarins and Shiseido.

Lisa Eldridge, the make-up artist, recommends wiping the mascara wand on a tissue to get rid of lumps before use, I found that really helped my sensitivity, too.

Lavenderandbrown · 07/05/2025 03:43

Natural grey hair since Aug 2019 It’s long and lovely and I have it trimmed a few times a year

monthly facials

botox in March first time in 2 yrs Not sure it does that much for me for the cost. Don’t have 11’s but some wrinkles across forehead if I’m stressed. Not sure I will do it again in 2025

pedicure on occasion I always did my own pedicure and did it well but suddenly it seems difficult to get the shaping correct I can polish fine but I like the pedi for shaping. Probably less than 6 times a year A pedi lasts so it’s a decent value

I have my cuticles trimmed and nails
shaped every 8 - 10 weeks. It makes a huge difference in the appearance of my nails No polish just cuticles

I maintain my own natural brow lashes and shaving. I have nice lashes which respond well to mascara and I have always been afraid extensions would break my natural lash and then they might quit growing for me

it doesn’t seem like much written out but haircut 50$ plus tip. Facial 90$ plus tip pedicure 50$ plus tip Botox 14$ ( no
tip) per unit unless I can catch a sale manicure 20$ plus tip. And lovely skincare and makeup every single day. A fortune really

I have short hair and wouldn't know where to begin. That is something I leave to the experts.

The big puffy lips now look "old hat" not cool anymore.

It isn't old hat where I live. There are far too many young women in my area with badly overdone puffy lips.

I often wonder what these people will look like when they stop using fillers.

SwanOfThoseThings · 07/05/2025 06:44

I don't 'have' anything done. I dye my own hair when it needs it and trim it myself; don't do anything to my nails, don't have anything waxed, don't have any facial treatments, don't do fake tans, and I always apply my own make up, even for my wedding. I'm middle-aged and have never been attractive so it would be a total waste of money paying other people to (possibly) make me look marginally better than I can do myself.

queenofthesuburbs · 06/05/2025 23:50

To those who cut their own hair....how do you do the back???

My hair is quite long, so I just pull it out to either side and snip the ends. Not particularly straight but, as I mentioned, it’s wavy so a bit of a haystack anyway! I can see it’s not quite right when I straighten it, but I hardly ever do that these days because it goes puffy within an hour.

Supersimkin7 · 07/05/2025 07:56

Brows threaded every month - I’ve got thyroid disease and your eyebrows fall out when it flares. Threading and home dye hides it.

Followed by visit to GP, optional, depends on how much eyebrow she gets off.

Can’t do nails, gardener. Did you know it’s much healthier to have gardening nails than clean ones? Better gut microbiome.

Home pedicure and, er, epilate Hobbit toes.

faerietales · 07/05/2025 08:03

Nothing.

I cut my hair myself, shave my legs, pits and bits and I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I wore any nail polish - it’s been at least 5/6 years though!

DilemmaDelilah · 07/05/2025 08:07

Haircut every 6 weeks. That's it.

iamnotalemon · 07/05/2025 08:10

Eyelash tint every 6 weeks
highlights every 3-4 months
monthly massage

andtheworldrollson · 07/05/2025 08:11

Nothing apart from cut my hair when it gets unruly and cut my nails when they get too long

doodleschnoodle · 07/05/2025 08:12

Hair cut and coloured every six-eight weeks. Gel nails every three-four weeks. Nails are my ‘thing’ I suppose, I love having them done and they give me a lift multiple times a day when I catch sight of them.

That’s it really. I do get pretty regular massages and facials too. But everything else I do at home.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/05/2025 08:14

hiarcut 2-3 times a year

Thursa · 07/05/2025 08:26

Haircut every year or two. Disposable razor for legs and pits. Moisturizer.

andtheworldrollson · 07/05/2025 08:28

Oh yes I occasionally shave the legs ( at least yearly ) and I have moisturiser if I fee I need something - change in weather often makes my legs dry

HmmNot · 07/05/2025 08:30

Brows and tache threaded once a month.
Haircut 3x a year
Nails for Christmas and summer only.
Tried Botox but I didn’t like it.

Lifestooshort71 · 07/05/2025 08:52

I've never paid anyone to do anything to me apart from a hairdresser and that stopped about 15 years ago and am the epitome of low maintenance.

I cut and colour my own hair (I use a gentle permanent box dye in a very light blonde from H&B to cover the grey and then every 3 weeks or so I give it a honey-gold rinse that lasts 3/4 washes - the results are amazing and look like prof highlights). I shave pits and legs in the shower, hair-cream remover on tache and tweezers on non-existant eyebrows as and when (I do pencil them in at all times though). My nails no longer do what they're told so I keep them short with just some Sally Hansen nail hardener on them. I had a radical mastectomy 2yrs ago (no recon) and can't wear a prosthesis - I've become very confident about looking like the real me and reckon I scrub up quite well 🤣

DinoLil · 07/05/2025 09:00

M hair is cut every 18 months or so. That's it.

GreenYodaFace · 07/05/2025 09:06

WatermelonSugarLow · 06/05/2025 22:59

I wish I could afford all that! If it makes you feel
great OP, go for it! Sounds wonderful!

OP, I'm intrigued, how much do each of those treatments cost you?

Spray tan 25
Botox 160
Hair 100
Make Up full face 50
Nails 20 to 25

OP posts:
emmatherhino · 07/05/2025 09:41

Hair trimmed and coloured every two months
Finger nails (acrylics) every 3 weeks
Toe nails (gel polish) and pedicure every two months
Do my own lash extensions once a week
Eyebrows waxed when I notice they need doing - every six weeks maybe?

SquashedMallow · 07/05/2025 09:41

Hate to say it, but when you read some of these replies, it makes you far less sympathetic to the whines of "I can't get on the property ladder and I can't afford to save" and "god the food shop is sooooo expensive, I just can't afford anything these days " I can tell you where your money is going. Lining a very rich beauticians pocket. Lucrative industry

emmatherhino · 07/05/2025 09:47

Pressed send too soon...

Hair removal other than brows I do myself
Fake tanning I generally do once or twice a week at home
Makeup I do my own every day but if I've got a big event or night out I might get that done professionally with a wash and blow dry
