I am baffled as to how these two men do not realise how ludicrous their defences sound despite the obvious evidence against them.

The judge must be exasperated!

I'm not following it but am interested what is their defence/excuse?

Clawdy · 06/05/2025 19:19

Think they are blaming each other.

AdversePossession · 06/05/2025 19:19

Yes, these mysterious figures who used the car, the phone, the chainsaw are intriguing... hope they turn up.

The data/tech parts of cases like this are always interesting - piecing together a story that has precise and factual detail.

A big boy did it and ran away. But you don't know him, he goes to another school.

DogWithoutItsPerson · 06/05/2025 19:29

Absolute wankers. I want to punch them.

saveforthat · 06/05/2025 19:31

They are pathetic shits aren't they?

CruCru · 06/05/2025 19:35

In fairness, I think cases for the defence often do sound ludicrous. Cases only come to trial if the CPS are reasonably hopeful of a conviction. This case is probably costing thousands every day.

Isn't that the way so they both get off?

It wasn’t me. I didnt do it. It was him.

in essence!

I am loosely following it but yes I read today that they were both wide eyed like they had been caught smoking in the school toilets 'it wasn't me Miss'

FFS, wankers

SanFairyAnnie · 09/05/2025 11:39

Well they won't be smiling now.

LadyDanburysHat · 09/05/2025 11:42

They clearly did not expect the level of vitriol and backlash that happened from it either. Does anyone know what the maximum sentence is that they can be given?

Pancakeflipper · 09/05/2025 11:43

They are coming across as very emotionally unintelligent and totally thick.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it is theoretically 10 years but that noone has ever been given a custodial sentence for felling a tree before.

Thank you. It's nit just the tree though, it is also damage to Hadrians Wall. I imagine they will get custodial sentences. Although how long could be anything.

paranoiaofpufflings · 09/05/2025 12:19

They are both currently being held in custody so some form of custodial sentence must be expected, even if that results in time already served. One has been in custody throughout and the other was taken into custody today after the verdict.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 09/05/2025 12:20

They do come across as thinking the judge is thick.

I hadn't read that the other one had been taken into custody today. I imagine the one who has been in custody all along may get out quickly due to time served. Although I doubt either will be able to return to their hometown.

I'm glad there are now photos of them on the BBC website so everyone can see what the selfish lowlifes both look like.

I’m a bit mean, but reading the Facebook posts about what they look like has been funny.
I hope they get the longest sentence possible.

Fordian · 09/05/2025 13:57

Two vacancies for village idiot have just come up on Indeed…

I was shocked they're quite close in age.

feellikeanalien · 09/05/2025 14:00

I particularly liked the explanation as to why one of them was shown by his phone data to be near the scene on the day the tree was cut down. Apparently he wanted to take his wife and their new born baby for a meal in Newcastle (from Cumbria) so she could have a break.

Driving for hours in shit weather to have a meal somewhere that is going to take you at least 2 hours there and back with a newborn sounds like such a plausible excuse!!!

They certainly don't seem like the sharpest tools in the box.

Pandimoanymum · 09/05/2025 14:01

You should have seen the comments on Graham's facebook business page last week. People clearly wanted to let him know what they thought of him and his handiwork. He's ruined his own business.
