I am baffled as to how these two men do not realise how ludicrous their defences sound despite the obvious evidence against them.

The judge must be exasperated!

I saw it on the news. My what a fuss. Of course it's vandalism and the men should be punished, But talking about devastation amd it's like losing a member of the family. Total madness. It's a tree fgs.

Do you ever post anything that isn’t contrary? If you can’t even vaguely grasp why the felling of this tree sparked such outrage then there really isn’t much point in wasting time explaining things to you.

It was a work of art, it was to trees what Stonehenge is to rocks.

It gave so much pleasure and comfort to many. Those two utter morons, well words just fail me.

They are part of an underclass that can never see beauty and live a life of reaction rather than action. These types are never happy unless they are 'getting one over' on their bosses, people close to them or the world in general.

Years ago they would have been upended in a water butt and good enough for them. Sadly, in the modern world, we have no choice but to 'manage' them as best we can and try and make good what they have put asunder.

AKA twats.

Would it be legal to impose on them a fuckton of community service in nature and environment related fields, with them getting banged up if they failed to perform any of it?

Probably not but it's a bloody good idea.

Any update? They were supposed to have been sentenced this week?

Google says they've been found guilty and will be sentenced on the 15th July
They seem to be facing prison time for the damage done
Hopefully it'll be for a long time

FigTreeInEurope · 25/05/2025 06:21

They'll get a surprisingly hard time in prison. One of my best memories from prison was when me and my mate got moved from Armley in Leeds to a rural open prison near Wakefield. There were trees in the compound and my mate hadn't seen a tree for four years. I'll never forget watching this massive rough biker just sit in the yard staring up at that tree. I honestly wouldn't want to be in their shoes, prisoners have their own set of values, and this will not been seen positively at all.

What a strange and cold attitude!

Perhaps she is married to one of the idiots and it is her main task to keep explaining that whatever fuckery he comes up with, is ok by her?

I've seen her name on dog threads quite often, usually going against the general tone of the thread...

It is different from trees cut for progress’ though!

We need to avoid cutting down trees yes, but sometimes there’s a purpose and we use a planning system to decide if it’s a good enough purpose.

These guys did that for no reason at all.

Well the beautiful trees that were cut down behind my house were to improve visibility on the road, I think a prune could have done that. Now they've had to put 30 mph limit on the road as it has got dangerous, there's a primary school a few doors up and lots of people crossing that road. Of course no one is respecting that so we now have a police unit regularly posted there so speeders can be prosecuted in our under pressure legal system.

Progress? I don't think so and in all practical senses those trees are a bigger loss as far as I can see.
