I don’t voluntarily watch or listen to Trump as I don’t want to die of an apoplectic fit brought on by him, so I glean things from here and there. Referring back to the TRIP US I talked about earlier, another thing which surprised me was a very coherent quote from Trump about the development of Middle Eastern States taking place successfully without outside interference from the so called leading countries of the world, which Katty Kay compared to part of a speech made by George W at his second inauguration. First of all, it made sense, and second of all, it made sense even when Trump spoke it, apparently.

I’m watching it on the vais that after the Zelensky incident MN was suddenly flooded by either suggesting that things were taken out of context or that Zelensky started it and it was cut to make Trump look bad. It’s occasionally very useful to have watched the whole thing to correct misinformation. But this is hard going between the poor NBC reporter being called an idiot or a jerk every few minutes to his prattling on about all the white crosses.

How much money does anyone want to bet that Trump’s been shown footage of loads of white crosses and been told they are all graves of white farmers and he’s just taken that at face value without it being verified and home ‘seems legit, definitely must be a genocide.’

I don't think the Jewish vote put Trump in the WH. The US Jewish population is about 7-8 million and most live in New York State, New Jersey, California and Florida - so a majority of Democrat leaning states. The more affluent ones in Florida probably support Trump but think (hope) that the majority in the other states identify as Democrats.

I think it’s important for us to remember too that lots of those Jewish people will vehemently disagree with Netanyahu and his policies. Not backing Israel to the hilt doesn’t necessarily lose that cohort.

It beggars belief that Drumpf and his little band of minions can sit in the Oval Office patronising each foreign leader, believing that they are the higher beings with superior intelligence, intellect and morals.

When/If the 🍊💩 does get to visit the U.K. Charles should sit him down, dim the lights and play a Led by Donkeys video of all Trump's lies, racist remarks and criminal convictions and sexual assault charges.

I really hope a decent investigative journalist looks into whatever all those graves are, where they are and why they are there. The SA contingent looked genuinely flummoxed and Trump had no answer when Ramaphosa asked where they were.

No, I was vaguely thinking of Augustus Caesar (the artist formerly known as Octavian). Widely considered one of histories most impressive politicians. The man who won the 3rd Roman civil war and basically created the Roman Empire (whilst always claiming to restore the Republic). He was rather partial to having foreign leaders exhibited at his court to impress his followers.

The US government has deliberately and consciously (with zero sense of irony or history, thus starting early what will become it's defining characteristics) been modelled on the Roman Republic And is now suffering almost exactly the same fate. The "transition" (such as was) between Republic and Empire took place over 3 incredibly bloody civil wars. Civil wars that spanned the known Roman Empire (chasing Pompey and Mark Anthony around Egypt).

Fans of parallels will remember that Augustus died in his bed. They will also remember what happened to Caligula. However in between we had Tiberius. Who began a long and proud tradition of being the wrong answer to the question "How much worse can he be than his predecessor ?"

One of the purported markers of anti-semitism as I understand it, is to conflate Israel and Judaism. Which then gets transmogrified into "Boycotting Israel is anti semitic". Almost as if all semites are Jewish. Which (of course) they aren't.

Yes, that’s my understanding, too, which is why I get confused about Trump thinking he needs to pacify Israel in order to get votes in the US. In which case, I think he is conflating Jews and Zionists. Or is it that some of his major donors are in fact Zionists, so it’s not the votes he’s worried about, but the money?
