Watching it now. I'm not religious - but it is a fascinating watch and a beautiful setting.

A lot of the women are wearing mantillas.
Does anyone else feel it's a bit disrespectful that William is returning to the UK in time to watch the FA Cup semi-final? I don't expect there'll be the ham butties afterwards but still seems a little odd.

I dunno, tbf it seems very Catholic of him 😂

Trump seems to be sitting on his own

I'm surprised that he's not insisted on sitting with the clergy conducting the service. He was vitriolic that Biden wasn't on the front row at the Queen's funeral.

Me too banivani, love the litany of the saints particularly in Latin

Fair enough. I disagree though.

It's protocol that the British monarch doesn't attend a papal funeral.

When I went to mass this Easter I noticed several people kneeling and taking communion by mouth. I asked a friend at church who goes all the time (a convert btw) and is au courant what that was all about and she rolled her eyes and said oh it’s soo pious. Soo pious. 😂

Oh dear that's me told. My "excuse" is I'm old and that was how it was back in the day when I made my First Holy Communion. Sorry it displeases a convert who probably wasn't even born then.

Maybe she needs to read The Sermon on the Mount, particularly the bit about "judge not lest ye be judged."

The only ones doing it at ours are converts. So she’s rolling at her own. That’s why I was asking - I know all the oldies and why they might do it! Not that there ever was anyone, mouth communion yes but not kneeling. I don’t know where new converts are getting it from.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mantilla at mass. We do have a lot of African women who wear head wraps to mass.

There’s a Catholic church in London, between Kilburn and West Hampstead, where you still see old ladies wearing Sunday best and a black veil to the Sunday Mass.

Zelensky looks like he is out of place.
White shirt and ties all round, except him.
Wonder if he had to borrow a jacket as it doesn't fit.
Sorry but he SHOULD have bothered for this funeral...

Ferro · 26/04/2025 10:45

Pope Francis was a massive footy fan so I think he'd be fine with William going to see the FA Cup.

Oh, that's interesting. So William going isn't a snub at all.

The weather looks to have played its part today.

I've only been to one Catholic funeral - and I remember that it was long. And involved a lot of incense.

Yep, you remember well.

I have been to a few catholic weddings and funerals and they are LONG.. When it came to my own Wedding (Me "Catholic", DH CofE) we certainly did not go in for the long service , same with later funerals.

This is absolutely normal in the Church of England

Marshtit · 26/04/2025 10:48

lovely chanting, i think they said it was

Oh, that's interesting. So William going isn't a snub at all.

It’s a bit awkward given the British Monarch’s role as head of the CofE, and the reason for its creation…

TheignT · 26/04/2025 10:48

cardibach · 26/04/2025 10:41

iIt’s one of his responsibilities isn’t it as a patron? And this is pretty short notice. If it can be done without him sneaking out during communion I don’t see a problem.

I can't see the problem either. The mass normally ends (well were I am) with the priest saying, "The Mass is over, go in peace." He doesn't say what you are allowed to do next.

No. A snub would be not going and not sending a representative.

Calliopespa · 26/04/2025 10:49

cardibach · 26/04/2025 10:37

I can’t see one. But two wrongs don't make a right anyway.

It does make it more likely that it fell within the dress code for attendees.

Is that you Donald?

Needspaceforlego · 26/04/2025 10:49

I don't think it matters if William goes to the football. What would you want him to do, moap around all afternoon?

It's not like they were personal friends, he's their to represent the UK. If the rest of the UK can watch the football so can William.

Same in Swedish church. But they have a pew at the front you kneel on and the Eucharist is more of a special occasion so not as common on the whole. It’s never been done at ours so I was very surprised.

BadahdahdahImLovingIt · 26/04/2025 10:50

It's nice that Prince William turned up to represent the British people and it doesn't matter that he has something else to do afterwards. This isn't his Pope after all.

Marshtit · 26/04/2025 10:50

oh byzantine prayers

I would love a wax melt with an incense nose.

I bought St Eval tea lights yesterday called Holy Smoke which smell very promising. I haven’t lit one yet.

banivani · 26/04/2025 10:50

This is lovely to hear.
