We don't have DEI but we do have EDI.
I've done many an EDI training course.
Usually quite interesting and informative.
Reform got in here (a midlands shire)
Our new councillor is about 12 and has never had an actual job.
I'm sure he'll be excellent 👀

itsgettingweird · 02/05/2025 17:46

Fucking hell.

He didn’t wait long to reveal who he really is to those who couldn’t or refused to see it

Isn't that to do with him wanting to stop civil servants working from home and returning to the office?

I suppose it depends on whether people think that productivity is higher when in the office.

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2025 17:16

No it's not all about immigration

Nigel Farage, "I would advise anybody who is working for Durham County Council on Climate Change initiatives, or Diversity Equity and Inclusion"

"I think you all better really be seeking alternative careers, very very quick"

https://bsky.app/profile/implausibleblog.bsky.social/post/3lo73fj7hjs24

All he needs is an orange spray tan

Bloody hell.

Not only is that straight out of Trump's playbook but he's not even bothered to change the wording. Vile creature.

groovylady · 02/05/2025 18:09

Schools have been fucked since the tories won in 2010.
My county is one of the worst for send provision in the UK. We have 1 ed psych for the whole county.
It will now get even worse...we might get the number 1 spot.

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2025 18:09

The Liberal Democrats have won overall control of Oxfordshire County Council

placemats · 02/05/2025 18:11

SEND provision will be cut - can't imagine what will happen in Staffordshire as it's already a huge problem. Did some voluntary work years ago in the area but that was under the Blair Government so needs were broadly met.

Many people outside of Staffordshire work for the council, so they will face job cuts within other areas nearby such as Cheshire East.

Roads will worsen. They'll do nothing regarding waste disposal, despite criticism of Birmingham City Council - blamed the back pay for women on that.

The list is endless.

Saucery · 02/05/2025 18:05

And conditions in schools will worsen, people will blame Labour, Reform councils will blame Labour for not giving them enough money (that they would piss away on backhanders to their mates anyway).
People will still die on hospital corridors but it will still be Labour’s fault for allowing immigration and not funding it.
Social care will continue to be run into the ground. Again, that will be Labour’s fault.

BBC leading with some bumf about Prince Harry. Disingenuous fuckers.

To be fair that's all we've heard from Labour re the Conservatives. It's always someone else's fault.

groovylady · 02/05/2025 18:12

I can only hope that they are all SO bad that people come to their senses by the next GE....

BIossomtoes · 02/05/2025 18:13

These Reform councillors are going to get a hell of a shock when they find out the size of the redundancy payments they’ll have to make. They’ll go bust very quickly.

That isn’t being fair, who else is to blame after 14 years in power? These threads used to be sensible.

Yep - they’ll cut SEN support. Clear as day they’ve been angling towards this for months.

eg The number of Educational Psychologists covering my area is down by more than half than there were 10 years ago. More cuts would only heap misery on children.

I need to apply for Ds2's transport for next year now that I (as of just yesterday) have the information I need. I should get a wiggle on with that.

Darren Grimes is one of them

I can't see him spending much time back in Consett.

I was simply going of gov statistics.

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/factsheet-small-boat-crossings-since-july-2022/factsheet-small-boat-crossings-since-july-2022

I was pointing out that the assumption that everyone is always from a dangerous country is wrong.

The grant rate also varies significantly when broken down by gender. Only 14% of Albanian adult males whose cases were concluded in the latest year were granted protection, whereas for children and female Albanian asylum seekers the grant rate is currently 90% – making the average grant rate for those whose cases are being concluded higher overall.

so a small number of Albanian males were granted asylum with woman and children often being granted asylum pushing up average figures.

Makes you wonder why if Albania is on a safe list 90% of woman and children clamming asylum were granted it.

No one denies the rise over a period. But the returns were high. This was before the Tory’s stopped processing for political reasons.

Notonthestairs · 02/05/2025 18:29

14 years in Government will lead people to point fingers, yes.

Probably because not many countries would make it on the safe list! 🙁

I'm dreading the Senedd elections too. I'm now trying to hold on to the hope that the next 12 months will show exactly how useless Reform are.

But Labour, Plaid etc all need to be gathering the evidence from today onwards and make sure they use it appropriately in their election campaigns next year.

I really hope so.

placemats · 02/05/2025 18:53

The other elections in England are next year and I hope that a year under Reform will turn the tide by then. Fingers crossed 🤞@LittleBowSheep

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2025 18:57

Lib Dems take Cambridgeshire and Shropshire

It is turning into a disaster for the Tories

The Tories’ own pollster: “Reform overtakes the Tories. Farage stays in place, keeps winning, and becomes the clear second party. The Conservatives collapse into the teens in polling terms, mass defections take place. Unlikely a few months ago but much more plausible now.”

BIossomtoes · 02/05/2025 19:03

Thank fuck for the LibDems, they’ve saved us here in Cambs. I strongly suspect the Tories are toast. We should be careful what we wish for.

I told my sister to vote Lib Dems but she went Green. Reform largest party, NOC, Lib Dems 2nd. Warwickshire.

We’ve got a little playlist going on YouTube here.

Ghost Town - The Specials
Lancastrian American Idiot - Green Day
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs

Any suggestions?

Saucery · 02/05/2025 19:17

Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Rising. I hear the voice of rage and ruin indeed.
