I'm feeling very blessed. Our two nearest Sainsbury's always have well stocked shelves!

I’m retired now but I still get enquiries from recruiters looking for a database skill I used before DS was born which is in rare supply these days. He is 27.
My colleagues and I always used to joke that being able to navigate a mainframe would be our pension one day.

If you want to weed out 90% of candidates, just give them a bash shell and say "get on with it".

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/04/2025 18:08

Our Sainsbury’s is patchy. Not as bad as it was a couple of years ago but there are always gaps on the shelves. Especially fruit & veg.

That is very odd placemats.

Thought it might be useful to know these stats as we had into the local elections. There are 1,641 council seats, in 37 councils, up for election. Of these, 1,182 are Tory, 336 (!) Labour.

It will be interesting to see how the land lies after Thursday and the pattern of seat changes.

That means only 123 for independents and other parties. So if other than the Tories or Labour gain seats, it could increase representation on some councils for say the Lib Dems or Reform by a large multiple.

We don't agree on much caringcarer, but he is indeed an extremely handsome lad. Bet you have to hoover a lot though!

Edited

🤣 Nice to agree on something. He is such an affectionate cat. Yep, we have to Vacuum every day, but he's so worth it.

Well bugger. I'll just go to coop, then!

I needed cheese and lol roll this evening.

on account of it taking 2 hours to get home from work I went to Co op (I rarely do) because even the extra drive past co op and past my house - a mile down the road (🫣) to Aldi seemed too much effort!

You can come work for me on my current project! The average team age is 60 something! Very different from my last project which was web development!

I didnt hear Badenoch but I believe she has acknowledged that the Conservatives pushed to leave the EU without having a post Brexit plan for growth.
I mean, she'd have to admit that because its pretty bloody obvious that they didnt.

Sometimes I think when things are obvious to the general public they are backed into a corner because admitting it is the only way to save face!

What on earth is this Labour MP thinking 😮?

A large proportion of those lib dems are here plus as many independents of various flavours (and a couple of reform who I assume are defectors). I can't see Labour getting the council back and I suspect that Reform will get quite a few more seats, going by some of the utter bilge on Nextdoor.

I solved the bread issue by telling DH he needed to pick some up. I don't eat it! The rest can wait. He got bread and some of those really strong salt and vinegar crisps that they do, after dinner. Our coop is just across the road (a busy one) so we used to treat it like an extra kitchen cupboard and have even been known to pop over after 10pm for wine.

I guess he thinks he needs to out-Reform Reform in his constituency Sad

More like scared of Reform gaining seats by banging on about immigration and “bloody woke ECHR”. Idiot. Labour shouldn’t be appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Probably thinking of keeping the police in his constituency busy on hot summer evenings. Pillock.

I have made a formal complaint to Labour HQ as I am member. Apparently he is part of a Blue Labour group at Westminster 🤮

This is what worries me. If, as seems likely, Reform do well tomorrow, will Labour have the sense to not try and out Reform Reform? I really hope so.

Born again dinosaur. Not a good look.

Dies he not realise that some of the struggling universities are redbrick? Or do only Oxbridge count as worthy, in his eyes.

Notonthestairs · 01/05/2025 08:18

"powerful higher education lobby"? Hilarious. So powerful they've seen cuts to funding for years.

"If universities go bust, I am not that disappointed" - well you'd be letting down whichever cohort was caught in the crossfire. And -

"The estimated total benefit to the UK economy from 2021/22 first-year international students over the duration of their studies was approximately £41.9bn, while the estimated total costs were £4.4bn. This implies a benefit-to-cost ratio of 9.4."

"The economic impact is spread across the entire UK, with international students making a £58m net economic contribution to the UK economy per parliamentary constituency across the duration of their studies. This is equivalent to £560 per member of the resident population."

From a London Economics study.

So really we should be asking him how will he replace this money.
