Checking in and have been following.

So far two online orders cancelled, one from M&S and the other surprisingly Sainsbury's - just yesterday. I'm withdrawing some money out of my account today.

Days ahead will be interesting. Cannot understand why people would vote for Reform, but then remember Brexit. Do people not learn from mistakes?

I have just placed a Sainsbury's order and seems OK. Do you think the cyber attack on M&S is spreading?

Might have been an outlier and have been refunded. Been doing it for years with no problems. My daughter got hers yesterday morning, mine was an afternoon delivery.

ETA. It wasn't delivered. The order went through, got the receipt. It was the same with M&S. Order went through before the ransom attack, Monday week ago. Have also been refunded. Both credit cards, not bank.

placemats · 30/04/2025 12:09

Don't want to edit anymore. Both different credit cards, widely used. Ransom attacks don't spread, they are targeted.

PandoraSocks · 30/04/2025 12:11

That is very odd placemats.

Thought it might be useful to know these stats as we had into the local elections. There are 1,641 council seats, in 37 councils, up for election. Of these, 1,182 are Tory, 336 (!) Labour.

It will be interesting to see how the land lies after Thursday and the pattern of seat changes.

PickAChew · 30/04/2025 12:15

Someone on the M&S thread hinted at a big supermarket being targeted. Hopefully our Sainsbury's local has stock because I need some stuff from there, this afternoon. It's that or the Coop, which has less choice of what I want.

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2025 12:18

There are a lot of posters cheering for Reform just to give Labour the Jenkyns salute.

If they are not Reform voters maybe they are Reform appeasers?

Our Sainsburys has lots of empty shelves lately. Yesterday it was the soft fruit and bread section.

Well bugger. I'll just go to coop, then!

Badenoch is calling for more inquiries into grooming gangs, why didn't she do that when she was in government?

It is most odd. They don't support Reform, but they want to see Reform give Labour a kicking.

I think they are shy Reformites.

Evenstar · 30/04/2025 12:38

Does anyone know why some MP’s are wearing red badges with a white triangle , some with a chain attached?

placemats · 30/04/2025 12:40

I think Green will do well as will you know who. Perhaps the time for Lib Dem to make a gentle comeback.

Conservative vote will crash harder than banks.

That describes them well, now be careful with those emojis Wink

There’s no good answer to that.

Most online systems will be about 15 to 20 years old.

Not the shiny bit you see when you use them. But the backend that does the grunt work.

And I will guarantee that most of the expertise needed to fix any problems there is in very short supply.

The reason these things take so long to fix isn't technical. It's administrative as each layer of management your have to rise through to get to the top is desperately ensuring that it's not their "efficiencies" that are blamed.

Will nobody think of the shareholders ?

Rivypike · 30/04/2025 13:44

Anyone hear KB talking about the Brexit agreement needing revision this morning ? Pretty sure she was a brexiteer.

One of the more esoteric things that has been affected by the M&S attack is the automatic temperature reporting from their fridges and freezers. Sounds like such small and trivial thing but it means that staff have to take manual readings 3 times a day to make sure all is functioning as it should.

It's also not more than a million miles from some of the sort of software DH works on, only his is sampling and reporting road traffic. Sounds so simple but it can take a lot of geek hours to get all the bits of hardware and various systems talking to each other and one small measure accurately and reliably reported. He's been asked to write a job description in case they get a particular bid and need minions to do the code monkey work. He was only half joking about needing graduates with experience of 25 year old systems.

Now the Co Op has reported an attempt on their systems. Some parts forced to shut down. ETA reported to staff on Tuesday 29 April via email.

placemats · 30/04/2025 14:52

What's the odds on the coincidence that this has happened before council elections? To quote Sherlock Holmes 'One should always be suspicious of coincidences.'

Always some sections very sparse in my local Sainsburys been going on for ages, also with M&S before the outage frequently hardly any potatoes/fresh large chickens particularly low stocks.

PickAChew · 30/04/2025 15:14

I think there have been supply problems with poultry for a while due to bird flu.

There's going to be hell on if I run out of DS2 's sausage rolls. I'm already down to my freezer stash because I couldn't get any at the weekend. He was scandalised by the lack of jam on the shelves.

At least we know what all those NEETs are really up to 😂

BestIsWest · 30/04/2025 15:29

I’m retired now but I still get enquiries from recruiters looking for a database skill I used before DS was born which is in rare supply these days. He is 27.
My colleagues and I always used to joke that being able to navigate a mainframe would be our pension one day.

Having just moved into building management energy analytics, that's not news.

I got the gig over folk half my age because ... well because no amount of "AI" shite is ever going to fix crappy software that was written last millenium.

Pretty cool being able to log into dashboards to see what's going on in (checks) Maryland 😀

I didnt hear Badenoch but I believe she has acknowledged that the Conservatives pushed to leave the EU without having a post Brexit plan for growth.
I mean, she'd have to admit that because its pretty bloody obvious that they didnt.
