Wondering who turned up at my house

LG123 · 11/03/2025 17:04

So I've not been at home for about a week or so, and I'm wondering who on earth could have turned up.

THREE people turned up at once, the neighbour said it was social services, so I called to find out if they have tried to visit us for whatever reason? No, no visits and no open case. And if it was them, three at once sounds pretty serious and the person on the end of the phone would have been able to see whether it had happened or not.

So I'm confused. Who could it be?

Jehovah witnesses?

StillLifeWithEggs · 11/03/2025 17:11

Why would it be social services? Did your neighbour actually speak to them? If not, why did she think it was SS, as I’m assuming they don’t zip about in a van marked SS? Jehovah’s Witnesses sounds quite possible.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 11/03/2025 17:11

Why did your neighbour think it was the social?! Jehovah's normally travel in two but are more likely than social services!

TwattyMcFuckFace · 11/03/2025 17:13

How could we possibly know? 😳🤷‍♂️

Does your neighbour always tell you when people knock at your door when you're not home?

B1indEye · 11/03/2025 17:13

Your neighbour asked them who they were? That's a bit of an odd thing to do

CurbsideProphet · 11/03/2025 17:16

Your neighbour sounds like a wind up merchant.
Feasible options:
Charity collectors, sometimes they travel in a small group.
Any kind of religious persons, they're regularly in twos or threes here.
Political party, doing some kind of promotion in the area.

Floranan · 11/03/2025 17:07

Jehovah witnesses?

Sorry it's a flat not house and there is a code to get in. Not noticed a trade code before.

Mareleine · 11/03/2025 17:17

How do you know anyone at all turned up? Is it all from the same neighbour? They don't sound like a reliable source.

Llllllllppppp · 11/03/2025 17:18

Could it have been relatives of yours? Or friends? Have you asked the people you know if any of them did this?
If your neighbour asked I don’t think they would tell a neighbour they were social services because of privacy when they hadn’t spoken to you.
They might have been scammers and said they were SS to throw her off the scent. Maybe if your neighbour hadn’t seen them they would have broken into your house. How do you know there were 3 of them? Were they picked up on a camera? Because I know one of my nosy neighbours would definitely exaggerate a situation like this.

SilenceInside · 11/03/2025 17:18

Maybe it's possible that it was social services and they asked for the wrong flat number or the neighbour misheard which flat number they were asking for.

LG123 · 11/03/2025 17:19

It was my mum they relayed it to, she popped over to check my post. I literally can't imagine anyone turning up like that and they wouldn't have made it to my door? They would have buzzed my flat surely?

Kindly OP, we have no idea who it was. We can all make guesses but no one on here is going to know.

Where did your neighbour get it from that it was social services? Did she ask them? Is she trying to cause trouble/scaremonger?

BansheeOfTheSouth · 11/03/2025 17:26

Get a camera if you are regularly not staying at home. Could be nothing, could be people looking for empty places.

But mightn’t it have been three friends or family members dropping by because they were in the area? When you weren’t there they didn’t call or text, they may mention it next time they see you.

You're not being clear about exactly what happened, how do you know they didn't buzz your flat. Can you explain the sequence of events?

SilenceInside · 11/03/2025 17:31

You're getting this story second hand and we are getting it third hand.

Perhaps the neighbour said "maybe it was social services?" and your Mum was unclear when relaying it to you and decided that it must have been social services. Or some other similar mishandling of information as it was passed along.

Best to speak directly to your neighbour and ask about who they saw and where, and whether they actually spoke to them or not.

VeneziaJ · 11/03/2025 17:31

Surely anyone official would have put a please contact card through the door or phoned and tried more than once? If you have school age children and they were absent from school then might it have been a welfare visit?

Edited

Just thought those guesses might give me a light bulb moment. Definitely not freodns or family, we've not long moved in and haven't stayed much as we are decorating.

I hope they wouldnt want to cause trouble, I don't even know them!

Suppose I'm just confused and anxious as to why three people would turn up all at once.

They may have buzzed my flat, they way it was explained is that they were at my door which is impossible to get to without knowing the door code.

Who saw them ?
Your mum ?
Did she not speak to them ?

Hemlocked · 11/03/2025 18:09

Maybe you're a quadruplet, and your long lost siblings came to find you so that you can all be reunited?

Are you absolutely certain nobody in the building would open the door to strangers? Or let them follow them in?

It should theoretically be impossible for anyone to get into my building unless the person they’re visiting knows them & lets them in. It still happens.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 11/03/2025 18:14

It was the three horses of the apocalypse (the red one is slightly busy right now).
