Wondering who turned up at my house

LG123 · 11/03/2025 17:04

So I've not been at home for about a week or so, and I'm wondering who on earth could have turned up.

THREE people turned up at once, the neighbour said it was social services, so I called to find out if they have tried to visit us for whatever reason? No, no visits and no open case. And if it was them, three at once sounds pretty serious and the person on the end of the phone would have been able to see whether it had happened or not.

So I'm confused. Who could it be?

That’s quite a strange response tbh. Are you okay?

Yes I'm okay? Do you mean the school comment?

I only mentioned the school because someone else upthread mentioned it and i forgot to tag them.

This is such an odd thread

Your neighbour told your mum who told you that three people knocked on your door last week?

That's it?

Why is the assumption that it's social services?

Mum said she neighbor said it WAS. It wasn't.

Turns out the 'three' people were my aunty, cousin and mother going over to decorate while I was working! Can't bloody believe it! Make me worry like that. I had no bloody idea!

Has your school age child been home alone while you’ve been away for a week?

ThreeMagicNumber · 12/03/2025 17:43

Wait, so your neighbour told your mum that three people were at your door who were social services and your mum didn't ask when they were there and figure out she was there at that point and the neighbour never noticed your mum was actually one of the three people that they seen at the door that day 🤔

Can you please answer why your neighbour thought it was social services?

Not a bloody clue! I don't even know them! I've only just moved in and we are sorting the property for moving in.

What? No. Why would you think that?

She's infant school age so she's been with me. We are away because we've not long moved in and are decorating and getting it ready to move in permanently. We've been staying at mums. I just haven't been there much because of work commitments and I'm not doing the decorating.

I thought that was odd too. Getting it second hand has obviously thrown me.

They would make for interesting visitors! Hopefully my children wouldn't be present if they did turn up!

Hi, social worker here. I can barely ever get a 2nd worker to go on dangerous visits with be, let alone two extra workers. Secondly if there is a nosey neighbour situation I never identify myself as a social worker as to not breach anyones confidentiality.

Well that's what I thought. Given how stretched the services are as well as confidentiality. Just didn't make sense. I only contacted them to ask whether they had tried to attend and if they had any concerns about our family, because if they did that's fine and I wouldn't want them to think I was ignoring it - I'd rather co-operate!

They'd get the decorating done fast though.

Because you said yourself that she’s “been all the time” at school and that you yourself were away . . . Logical question to ask I think and a reason as to why SS might have turned up (I can see now that they didn’t actually).

Don't worry if they were looking to speak to you in an unannounced way they would be very persistent, and also its common for us to leave a calling note or a simple hand written note asking you to make contact with us.

There are plenty of scenarios why one parent would not be with a child for a week, it doesn't mean for one minute they've been left alone.

But I wasn't clear, we've all been away from the property during decorating and getting appliances in etc etc but she has still gone to school.
