Burnt or cooked?

My colleague says my crumpets are burned and fit for the bin
I say perfectly double toasted, she reckons they should be pale still and floppy

Seems to be a 50/50 split here, so I'm asking you lot!

Burnt or cooked?

Just popping in with a plea for everyone to stop saying ‘flaccid’. 😅

NeedWineNow · 04/03/2025 22:16

Add butter an inch thick on those and that's my DH's perfect snack. I like mine a little less done, not so much butter and a smidge of honey.

Onlyonekenobe · 04/03/2025 22:18

Your crumpets are burnt, but I like my bacon crisp enough to snap.

changedusernameforthis1 · 04/03/2025 22:26

Crumpets MUST be crunchy in our household. Not completely burnt but brown enough for a satisfying cronch when you bite into them.

Really want a crumpet now but I only have pancakes.

I also like my bacon so crispy it snaps
Colleague eats hers barely cooked
Wonder if there's a link...

She sounds dodgy to me. Is she one of those people who just likes a teabag waved in the general direction of the mug?

Whereas I think you and I could be friends.

@faithspikebuffy
Tell your colleague you’re Scottish and the crumpets are “well fired”. 😀

Somewhat ironically she is Scottish....
I did try saying don't you eat well fired rolls and I got a withering look

Perfect crunchy crumpet. Just needs lashings of butter

AnotherHappyCamper · 04/03/2025 23:14

Perfect.

Conkerjar · 04/03/2025 23:57

Slightly over, but not much. Hope you got the salty butter on while they were steaming. I too like bacon well done! Maybe not snapping but chewy, with the fat completely crispy. I very rarely eat it though, it's one of those foods where I get a hankering once in a while, eat some, then one bite is off and it's game over, no bacon for 5 years.

mondaytosunday · 04/03/2025 23:58

On the turn. A few seconds more would be burnt.

Oh yes, salted butter on. Apparently I also used too much butter which I didn't think was possible on crumpets, surely their entire point is as a vehicle for butter....

There is no such thing as too much butter.

DH is very fond of asking if I would like a crumpet with "all that butter" 🙄

Unfortunately I can never answer him due to the fact I have half a crumpet in my mouth.

sprigatito · 05/03/2025 21:52

They're perfect. Nothing sadder than an anaemic crumpet.
