It's why I posted it 😀

However, remember that circulated c'n'p complaints are much easier to dismiss as "activism".

I suspected so but I’ve got manners and shit 🤣!
I’ll edit it a fair bit because there are bits that don’t apply to me (I’ve been a Labour member, campaigned for them etc). My MP is quite centrist, but he’s also sound on equality issues so I suspect he’s a bit uncomfortable with the changes anyway.

cardibach · 19/03/2025 12:21

SerendipityJane · 19/03/2025 12:18

Like many pp have said, he’s getting the unpopular stuff out of the way early so everyone’s forgotten about it by the next election

Disabled people and their families and carers won't have forgotten.

Yes, but I think the comment was aimed at people that matter.

I think it was perhaps referring to the fact that the majority of people will forget as this doesn’t affect them directly. I think it’s a bit unfair to suggest the poster thinks disabled people don’t count.

SerendipityJane · 19/03/2025 12:21

Remember that anyone who always votes for the same party has put themselves at the very bottom of the list of "people who get shit".

If you are going to vote for me whatever then why the fuck would I give you the steam off my shit ?

I’ve edited it to point out I’ve (almost) always voted Labour and campaigned for this actual MP at 2 elections but that I will not be doing either again unless there are some huge changes. I told him my previous biggest disappointment was lending my vote to Lib Dems (in a very different constituency) to keep the Tories out only to have the LDs go into coalition with them, but that I was more disappointed this time as Labour has a huge majority, doesn’t need to compromise or court other votes and therefore presumably really believes all this shit. I reminded him he’d had an email from me in Feb about demonising asylum seekers to back up my horror at their messaging.
Won’t change anything I don’t suppose, but I’ve said my piece. And I have other options for voting.

DuncinToffee · 19/03/2025 12:49

Labour have done good things but they got this very wrong and it is right to call them out on it.

I have a Tory MP so will try different ways to make my disappointment known.

I agree, there’s a lot of good going under the radar, but messaging on immigration and disability/benefits in general is very wrong. I didn’t say anything about what I liked, which was perhaps an error.

ilovesooty · 19/03/2025 13:54

I think at some point there's going to have to be an acknowledgement that most DWP expenditure is on pensions and related benefits. However I suspect that admitting that the triple lock is unsustainable would be electoral suicide. The perception is that the disabled and ill don't vote but pensioners do. However the WFA stuff has already pissed off loads of pensioners... including the well off ones.

BIWI · 19/03/2025 14:15

TBF the well-off ones (and I include myself and DH in that) have no right to be pissed off. Not on our behalf anyway.

PandoraSox · 19/03/2025 14:43

I have never used the hide function so much on MN. The hate is awful.

I feel the same way. I'm single and not incredibly well off, but as a pensioner I'm still working part time, own a small house outright and don't feel any entitlement to the WFA.

I've reported someone this morning and to be fair their post was promptly deleted.

Agree, just been on one or two, unbelievable, with one poor poster subject to the laughing emoji, she was wheelchair bound.

I'm aghast at Labour, this is IDS on steroids, the whole thing about Welfare Reform should be on support but the emphasis seems to be on getting ill people back into work via cutting benefits... cart before horse!

It's particularly bad today

Have just hidden 8 just from Active on thread title alone without even opening them

I have hidden a similar number. I did report one thread though as it was particularly vile and MNHQ deleted it.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 19/03/2025 20:07

Jeez I had just had a quick flick through the benefit threads and some people are just flipping nasty ☹️

Whilst I'm still hanging on by a thread with the Labour party and will be applying for councillor applications, this is a powerful piece I will always remember and take into account.

Frances Ryan's book Crippled is a searing read. Really recommend it.

Attitudes towards disabled people have to change otherwise we all as a civilised society lose out. It's shocking.

Never give up! ❤️

Aren't they just. And some of the career suggestions are ludicrous.

PickAChew · 19/03/2025 22:17

And the really sad thing is that people are taking pains to describe how hard their daily existence can be and still the awful comments keep on coming.

Posters can be really horrible

Llttledrummergirl · 19/03/2025 23:26

I'm staying out of a lot of threads at the moment. The amount of blatant untrue stuff that starts with my first hand experience is something untrue but proves that the disabled/young/ vulnerable are horrible people that should be made to insert horrible idea.

I refuse to accept that these are genuine posters because nobody could be that thick and uncaring. They are so much like that Trump/Musk/Putin/far right/ Nazis are great posts in style, volume and grammatical English language errors that it's really not worth the fight. They are showing themselves for the contemptuous individuals that they are.

I think many peoples have awful attitudes to disabilities, especially mental health, so i think in many cases, they are genuine posters, i remember the fun poked at people negatively affected by Brexit, these people enjoyed the fact others were suffering.

I'll give you an example, a retired Policeman started up a dog kennels near me, a local man had lost is DD in an accident, this man made fun of the bereaved father to his face, taunted him over her death.

The child of the woman who drowned, had to change schools because of the bullying she experienced because she didn't have a mum & the school did SFA.

Some people lack all empathy and enjoy - trying to - make other people miserable.

I’ve only checked in on a couple of threads but this struck me too. Descriptions of what they use PIP for and a response saying we can’t afford ‘them’.
Little substantive response regarding work opportunities.
Deliberately dehumanising.

strikes me that some posters are either very sheltered individuals or simply take pleasure in cruelty.
MN punching down.

Alexandra2001 · 20/03/2025 07:52

I got a reply back from my MP, she is saying they'll be a consultation on the benefit changes and sent me a link to the DWP questionnaire on this.
