I think I should be given my free goat.

Because on Friday after ds drove his free car home using only his hands on account of not being able to walk and I had to carry his home wheelchair downstairs for him to get to the bottom of the stairs - bum shuffle up the first floor to where our (cheap as HA) flat is - while I carried his wheelchair up - I’m absolutely gutted that we don’t have a goat to greet us.

I mean - life’s so easy surely the goat won’t create any extra hard work Wink

Goats cheese is nice

Severance is getting weirder by the episode.

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2025 16:51

I can’t stand goats cheese - maybe a goat would be wasted on us 😂😂

PickAChew · 16/03/2025 16:52

Despite 2 young men in the household in receipt of PIP, we're only allowed the one goat. It's subject to random checks to make sure we're not breeding from it of profiting from it in any way.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/03/2025 17:04

Oh Lord I should not have opened the NHS thread. That’s going to spoil a nice sunny Sunday afternoon.

It's all such a laugh, isn't it?

(My DH uses hand controls too, they are pretty nifty. He loves driving, so it is so good that he still is able to.}

DH fell between wheelchair and bed last night. It took twenty minutes to get him sorted. But we are just scroungers, eh?

Is there no way of getting a stairlift @itsgettingweird ? It's bloody disgraceful that your DS has to do that.

I was really sad and upset about the PIP stuff a few days ago. Now I am just really blisteringly angry, which I think is better. But I may end up getting banned from MN.

On a happier note, on our little trip away the staff at the place we stayed were so helpful and kind. There are many, many decent people out there.

PickAChew · 16/03/2025 17:26

The doxxing isn't funny but he's still a twat who obviously didn't read his employment contract.

Which thread is that? The NHSE one?

Which thread is that? The NHSE one?

I'm on that one but it's hard going. I'm also on the PIP one, and have managed to remain polite so far. For polite, read 'passive aggressive but plausible'.

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2025 17:40

Pandora I’ve asked HA about stairlift but they wont because it’s communal area.

I’ve emailed council (and heard nothing back) and joined homeswapper but now need to chase up council and ask to be put back on housing list to bid for suitable properties that can be adapted.

luckily ds can walk sometimes but it’s becoming less and less. And he uses his crutches to get up the stairs when only 1 leg doesn’t work.

Man who called for people who express political views in their jobs to be sacked gets upset after being threatened with sack for expressing political views in his job.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14498263/Waitrose-faces-SACK-supermarket-tweets-cartoon-trans.html

Disingenuous dickhead. He wasn’t expressing beliefs WORIAD from the brief descriptions given in the article, he was spreading racist, misogynistic crap, for which his employer is quite rightly taking action. I don’t expect they are wild about him posing in his Waitrose uniform for a Sadface article, either.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/03/2025 17:46

Yes the NHSE one about it being good to sack people.

Wes Streeting appears to have mentioned MH issues being overdiagnosed so that’s brought some people out too. Just as a warning this has obviously been extended to any neurodiversity too so people may want to give that thread a miss too.

dontcallmelen · 16/03/2025 18:11

Really glad you had a bit of respite Pandora & both enjoyed your break
itsgettingweird really hope you get accepted back onto bidding for more suitable accommodation some flowers for you both

That is really crap. Is it worth getting in touch with your MP?

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2025 18:45

Pandora my MP is Braverman 🤦🏼‍♀️

If I have no luck at council I’ll try and get local Labour MP on airs as she’s hot on disability as she has MS.

The better comparison with Truss would be Starmer-Reeves and the enormous tax rises. They aren’t unwinding the mistake. They’re forging on. Theirs is a slower burner of an economic disaster. But a worse one for that.

I strongly suspect that the more eyebrow-raising of the floated cuts were never going to happen. But the media strategy has backfired: enough people believed it all to damage Labour’s reputation.

There’s a theme developing with this government that it believes it can do no wrong, personally, economically, socially, and with communication of policy. And then things go wrong. There’s surprise and panic in government. I put it down to the easy ride they had in the face of a disintegrating Tory government.

Enormous tax rises??? its small in comparison to the total income and NI tax raised in the UK.

...and wouldn't be needed if Hunt hadn't cut NI by 4 pts, thats a cost of 10 billion per year to the Govt.

Truss, has at least for medium/long term, caused UK gilts to be higher than any other country in the EU, she trebled them.... thats costing the Govt billions per year in additional borrowing and wrecked DC pensions, mine are still recovering...

Alexandra2001 · 16/03/2025 20:04

PandoraSox · 16/03/2025 12:48

I am fed up of Starmer and Reeves now. They have a massive majority. It is unlikely they will lose on 2029 given the state of the Tories and The Farage Party.

Do something radical. Put up income tax by 1p for basic rate and higher rate. By 2p for anything over £125 or something like that. Put up VAT on higher end goods. It can be argued that the world has completely changed since July 2024 and unexpected measures are needed. Then just before the next election they could possibly cut it all again if times are better.

But no, they decide to out Tory the Tories to the extent they piss off their own backbenchers and even some of the front bench.

I didn't vote Labour to get Tory Austerity 2.0

Listening to Streeting and the IDS, could both easily be from the same party, same language, same blame game.

BIWI · 16/03/2025 20:14

I don’t know what to think about the whole issue of disability stuff Sad

I can understand that the welfare bill may be ginormous. But - surely?! - that’s reflecting the people who need it? I get that there will be people who cheat the system but, I think, it doesn’t matter what system you have, there will always be those who try to/cheat it.

But the notion that the Labour party might be trying to take help away from those who most need it is horrific.

I’m a bear of little brain, mostly. So I can’t see why we aren’t just taxing those who have the most. And especially given what’s happened over the last few weeks, why would it be so awful to change our minds (as in the minds of the government) and start to levy higher taxes on the rich?

It was Margaret Thatcher who insisted ’this lady isn’t for turning’ - but surely Rachel (and Keir) must be able to see that things have changed, and that flexibility is surely a more appropriate response than dogged refusal to change anything?

InMySpareTime · 16/03/2025 20:47

I don’t understand the U-Turn headlines. Nothing has actually been properly announced yet.
Is it that the Ragebait tabloid scaremongering wasn’t actually based on reality and was all speculative, and the actual measures that were planned are what will be announced (and somehow labelled “U-Turn” and “Dogmatic” at the same time)?

BIWI · 16/03/2025 20:51

I agree @InMySpareTime

So much of what’s being posted/written about is pure speculation. I hate the whole way things are ‘leaked’ to the press - either deliberately by the government or via speculation.

I’m not entirely sure that the government is taking advantage/controlling this, or whether it’s all just a complete dog’s dinner and mess.

But it makes it very confusing to know what’s actually going on.

PickAChew · 16/03/2025 17:26

I’m not sure it’s really doxxing if you are posting that stuff on a feed designed to promote Waitrose wine on company time.

It wasn’t speculation. It was government briefing.

I’ve said before that I suspect it was strongly overblown to make what actual measures are taken look more reasonable.

But I think the government’s messaging took hold more quickly and in a more damaging way than they expected. So they’re ‘reflecting’ now.

’U-turn’ and ‘climbdown’ are right in the sense that the government created the story in the first place: they can hardly say “oh, we did brief journalists about more draconian cuts but we never meant it”.

The only alternative is that the briefings were accurate. In which case ’U-turn’ and ‘climbdown’ are still right.
