Hearing them shouting "USA! USA! USA!" made think of the rallies Hitler spoke at.

As I suspected he seems to have focused (in so far as one can when they witter on for 1hr 40mins) on domestic issues. I actually think it’s slightly positive that he didn’t feel the need to rant against Zelenskyy.

I have always found the chanting a little eerie.

It has a cult vibe to it.

He really is a medieval potentate isn't he? Demands kow-towing and ego massaging, vindictive, above the law, no concept that anything might be valuable in itself, manipulates the masses, wants huge personal wealth.

I've just seen that Trudeau said the Trump administration had been clear with them that the purpose of sanctions is to cause economic collapse in Canada so it's easier to annex. They are already refering to Trudeau as Governor Trudeau rather than Prime Minister Trudeau. They are absolutely fucking nuts.

There was a good interview on Newsnight with the Canadian foreign minister. Canada will not stand for Trump's bullying.

Jeez where did you see that, @BringBackCoffeeCreams ? For Trudeau to say that out loud is extraordinary, he must think that there's no going back to normal now if he's willing to say that in public.

And for Trump to have said it to him...no words really. It just gets worse and worse.

It’s all very well for countries to say they won’t stand for bullying and I applaud that 100% but what seriously happens if Trump decides to go ahead and use military means to try and annex a fellow NATO member state.I’d like to think we (the UK and Europe) would come to Canada’s aid. Bonkers we even have to consider it.

Think It’s one of the reasons Starmer gave Trump the royal invitation, can’t see Charles being amenable to Canada becoming the US.

His speech was excellent and the first prime minister from an allied Country who openly spoke up. I hope the others are taking note

Dealing with the Trump administration is so very like being in an abusive relationship: "I might be nice to you... or I might not. If you don't suck up to me I definitely won't be nice – and it will be your fault. But if you do suck up to me, I still might not be nice."

(Same technique widely used by personality-cult authoritarian leaders as well.)

Reports emerging that Starmer, Macron and Zelenskyy might be going to Washington to meet with Trump. Also that Macron is going to do a formal address to the nation tonight.

I think there's going to be a lot of co-ordinated Good Cop Bad Cop going on among the countries which attended the London summit.

This is going to be a long battle for survival (I'm not just talking about Ukraine now) and there will be plenty of fronts to fight on, using whatever works.

Media – particularly social media – will undoubtedly put a lot of energy into trying to stir up bitchfests between them, demanding people condemn each others' approaches. There are two possible motives: conflict=clicks; or divide and rule. Either way, we should expect to see a lot of it.
