Lovely treats that feel extravagant don't cost a fortune

Fortnum and Mason has a wonderful deli downstairs. I wouldn't do my weekly shopping there, but you can pick up some lovely goodies which are no more expensive than Pret and much better quality.

Going to my local cinema on a Monday is only about £6.

Any other ideas for small boosts that don't break the bank?

100% agree with good quality bits from the supermarket - get the fancy tea bags, nicer biscuits or indulgent food treat - often only an extra £ or two, but they make such a difference to enjoyment I find!

Grabbing a coffee out on a day out - worth it every time. Going for a winters walk is lovely, adding in a coffee from a local shop for £3-4 just levels it up.

Buying nice mugs 100%. Then when you have a coffee or tea at home, it feels so much nicer in a nice mug. Also nice places for the aforementioned biscuits!

Haagen Dazs Salted Caramel ice cream - I know it expensive for ice cream, but for a fiver, it's the best treat ever

There are promotions on Haagen Dazs quite often.

Unfortunately I think HD is Nestle which I try to avoid.

Chocolate spread straight out of the jar with a spoon
misses point of thread

Gorgeous soap. Feels luxurious and not expensive.

wotsitallfor · 22/02/2025 16:16

OP HD is General Mills, if that helps! Nestle in the US.

No no, I think you've nailed it. Especially if it's a big jar Grin

I’m another for fancy hand soap. It’s a small luxuary but my hands smell beautiful and it makes me smile. 😊

The extra large jars of Nutella are a thing of pure indulgence and beauty!

My treats are:

  • taking random half days off work on a quiet day of the week, like a Monday, and enjoying having the city centre to myself.
  • every now and then buying a single item from a shop to make a lovely dinner or snack, ie a steak, or silk pyramid tea bags, or fancy biscuits.
  • instead of going to a restaurant, I sometimes look up the menu and home make what I would have ordered using fancy supermarket ingredients. Feels like a treat and costs less than half what it would have to eat out. Last thing I made like that was baked butter paneer with yoghurt flatbreads. So good.

Daffodils. Only £1 a bunch. Crumpets.

BustingBaoBun · 22/02/2025 16:23

Luxury body butter/body cream. I buy mine in TKMaxx, they have luxury brands cheaper and even now from putting some on after my shower this morning, I can smell the most gorgeous aroma on me and my skin feels nourished.

Library books (inc audio)
A short (bc it adds up!) ride on a lime bike -
wheeeeeeeeee!
Smoked mackerel and cream cheese on wholemeal toast, with an egg and lots of black pepper. Tastes more expensive than it is. Ditto homemade soup.

Ahh love a luxury lime bike ride - though realised far to late the passes tend be cheaper.

Pears body wash - it's mainly glycerin and leaves your skin feeling amazing.

Agree with having a coffee out sometimes.

Also nice bread.

AcquadiP · 22/02/2025 16:35

Body lotion that comes as part of a perfume gift set, worth paying a bit more for I find.

Luxury Italian soap such as Nesti Dante, leaves your hands and body feeling clean, soft and smelling gorgeous.

"Extra Special" versions of supermarket goods are usually worth paying a bit more.
Aldi's ES Irish cream is divine.

Bamboo socks.

Anything 100% wool - gloves, scarves

CaveMum · 22/02/2025 16:45

Luxury toilet roll - I refuse to wipe my bum with nasty scratchy stuff.

Nice chocolate - we’re big Moser Roth fans in our house.

StormingNorman · 22/02/2025 16:47

Clean sheets on the bed 🥰

Galaxy chocolate

Yes ! I just love a bunch of daffodils, the little heads bobbing never fails to make me smile. Crumpets , yep with a slice of butter!!

Britpopbaby · 22/02/2025 17:44

Decent coffee
new socks with a nice design

Bookaholic73 · 22/02/2025 17:48

Buying a good steak at the supermarket (or butcher) and making my favourite dinner.
Then snuggling the dogs on the sofa and watching a Netflix show with some organic luxury chocolate.

I get coffee bags from an indie supplier, and have just bought lots of new socks because the old ones were stiff and scratchy and I suspect slightly shrunk! The new ones feel so luxurious.
Smoked salmon pate is a special treat for me.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 22/02/2025 17:58

A soak in the bath with lovely bubble bath. Glass of wine. Film on an iPad.

Andnowshesatoddler · 22/02/2025 18:30

A cleaning lady two hours a fortnight for £30 just keeps on top of my house.
In the smaller day to day sense buying the more expensive soft fruit like raspberries blueberries fresh all year for my lunches definitely could be cheaper but it makes dieting that little bit nicer for me.

StormingNorman · 22/02/2025 18:43

Homemade cake

BustingBaoBun · 22/02/2025 18:46

Proper loose leaf tea ordered from a tea supplier
