Lovely treats that feel extravagant don't cost a fortune

Fortnum and Mason has a wonderful deli downstairs. I wouldn't do my weekly shopping there, but you can pick up some lovely goodies which are no more expensive than Pret and much better quality.

Going to my local cinema on a Monday is only about £6.

Any other ideas for small boosts that don't break the bank?

Bread from a proper bakery, a cup of tea in bed looking out the window, a trip to a cool coffee shop by myself, a long walk with friends 🧡

GameOfJones · 22/02/2025 18:55

I totally agree with upgrading the everyday things.

Nesti Dante soap. It lasts so long anyway it works out cheaper than shower gel but it smells amazing and gets me really clean. Apply wearing scrubby exfoliating gloves in the shower and it lathers up and smells beautiful.

Champneys body balm for after the shower. It's more expensive than a lot of body lotion but feels and smells amazing and price per use is still well worth it.

Buying the "nicer" food for home sometimes. E.g. today we spent £17 on ingredients for dinner for the four of us which is a lot of money for us BUT is way cheaper than a takeaway or going for a meal out.

Disposable heated eye masks

Bamboo socks

Proper floating duck food 🤣

Really good flour for the bread machine

VinoEsmeralda · 22/02/2025 19:11

Good green tea, Mao feng Ben my go to for over 10 years.
Daffodils
Coffee out on walks- not cheap.to buy but love our jetboil
Wild garlic picking- pesto galore & wild garlic and potato soup.
Cold water swim- 2 minutes and feels the same as if you ran for an hr and finish!
Freezer swoop - best Dinners ever
Yellow stickers in supermarkets!

Judellie · 22/02/2025 19:38

A peppermint foot mask from Poundland is nice - costs all of £1

Cherrysoup · 22/02/2025 19:44

Little rollneck cableknit jumpers, all £3 each from Vinted. I’ve never really had many jumpers. It feels really indulgent to be able to have a choice of colours. I also bought a couple of Next/Per Una jackets which are really warm, £5 each.

ChristmasLightsLover · 22/02/2025 20:09

Method hand wash.
I buy it when it's on offer.

herbygarden · 22/02/2025 20:12

Lidl's Guylian style chocolate seashells - think they are £2.99 probably cheaper by the gram than a bar of Dairy Milk!

Proper loose leaf tea ordered from a tea supplier

I once had a very expensive Darjeeling tea from Fortnums which I saved for best 😂

This is a treat. Ditto really good coffee.

NewtonsCradle · 22/02/2025 20:56

Matching underwear, painting toenails different colours and going to the seaside for a day trip.

weegiemum · 22/02/2025 21:00

Flowers! I love daffodils at £1 a bunch but dh is really good at keeping me supplied with whatever, I have a lovely bunch of purple stuff and red roses from Tesco right now.

Bottle of nice Sauvignon Blanc! Worth paying an extra £2-3 or so for a nice NZ Marlborough. It's my weekend treat!

My big indulgence is F&M loose leaf Darjeeling, order it a few times a year and enjoy a pot in the morning, ideally out in my garden, watching the birds at my bird feeders, bliss!
Off to look up the Neste Danti soap now, sound gorgeous!

CaveMum · 22/02/2025 22:31

I was listening to Rob Beckett a few weeks ago, he said at Christmas he and his wife treat themselves to some really posh biscuits from Fortnum & Mason. £20 a tin with about 10 biscuits inside.

TheChosenTwo · 22/02/2025 22:37

@CaveMum we have those sometimes, although I recently bought the chocolate and cherry ones and no one really thought they were any good which was disappointing. The ginger ones are nice and dh likes the nutty ones. You can get them all year round if anyone else is interested!
I fell into Oliver Bonas at the train station just before it closed and treated myself to a jumper - It’s lovely! Maybe not the bargain of the century but cheap enough to make it feel like it counts here 😌

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/02/2025 23:31

Frozen apple strudel. About £1.50.

Body lotion that comes as part of a perfume gift set, worth paying a bit more for I find.

Luxury Italian soap such as Nesti Dante, leaves your hands and body feeling clean, soft and smelling gorgeous.

"Extra Special" versions of supermarket goods are usually worth paying a bit more.
Aldi's ES Irish cream is divine.

Bamboo socks.

Anything 100% wool - gloves, scarves

I've seen Nesta Dante soap mentioned a couple of times so I looked it up. So many different ones! Which ones smell the most divine?

For showering, my favourite is Limonum Zagara. Sicilia and Portofino are also lovely.
For hand washing, Olive Oil and Tangerine.
I started to buy Nesti Dante during Covid after seeing recommendations. It's the only soap I use. The bars are huge and last ages and they don't lose their scent.

KrazyboutKillian · 23/02/2025 16:26

Molton brown rhubarb and rose soap , was £5 on offer and a lovely scent and pink colour , that cheers me up

£4 roses ,

bamboo socks even though I don’t need any

Thejugglestruggle · 23/02/2025 16:29

M&S dine in; either £10 or £15 option for me and my husband. Feels like a takeaway, tastes better than most of them and a fraction of the price!

Booking a 1/2 day or day's leave for me to mooch around rather than book for kids' holidays!

Those under eye patches. Cheap and makes me feel like a Beverly Hills housewife haha.

Burning a nice candle. One of the nicest I've tried is the pomegranate Home Bargains one for £3.99.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 23/02/2025 16:32

£1 bunches of daffodils, and smoked salmon cream cheese spread from M&S - today's heavenly treats, on a very gloomy, grey, rainy day.

Stromboluigi · 22/02/2025 16:21

My treats are:

  • taking random half days off work on a quiet day of the week, like a Monday, and enjoying having the city centre to myself.
  • every now and then buying a single item from a shop to make a lovely dinner or snack, ie a steak, or silk pyramid tea bags, or fancy biscuits.
  • instead of going to a restaurant, I sometimes look up the menu and home make what I would have ordered using fancy supermarket ingredients. Feels like a treat and costs less than half what it would have to eat out. Last thing I made like that was baked butter paneer with yoghurt flatbreads. So good.

Love this idea of getting inspiration from restaurant menus!!

Britpopbaby · 23/02/2025 17:02

buying something from a museum or art gallery gift shop within a certain budget.

caringcarer · 23/02/2025 17:17

Tea in bed.

Bone china teapot, little milk jug and cup and saucer.

A bacon sandwich.

A day by the coast

Definitelynotem · 23/02/2025 17:25
