Badenoch and Patel not quite brave enough to call Trump out. But still, good to know everyone is horrified.

There are a few Mumsnetters who are reverse ferreting right now, thinking no one will remember when they were crowing about Trump saying USA wouldn't continue to shell out.

European leaders rally behind Ukraine's Zelenskyy after Trump spat
The Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre is the latest European leader to offer his support for Zelenskyy and Ukraine as he says this:

We stand by Ukraine in their fair struggle for a just and lasting peace.
The Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson said:

Sweden stands with Ukraine. You are not only fighting for your freedom but also for all of Europe’s. Slava Ukraini!
The Lithuanian president Gitanas Nausėda has also joined in:

Ukraine, you’ll never walk alone.
and the Irish foreign minister Simon Harris:

Ukraine is not to blame for this war brought about by Russia’s illegal invasion. We stand with Ukraine.
Their comments come after earlier expression of support from Poland’s Tusk, Spain’s Sanchez, and France’s Macron.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2025 19:54

Zelenskyy

Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit.

Thank you @POTUS, Congress, and the American people.

Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.

Jenrick said he'd vote for Trump. Presumably he'd want to revisit that now.

No word from Farage? Johnson?

Are they going to claim we weren't supposed to take Trump/vance literally? It was banter.

Counting the big roubles they have

cakeorwine · 28/02/2025 20:04

This is from Macron

Russia is the aggressor, and Ukraine is the aggressed people.
I think we were all right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago, and to continue to do so. We, that is the United States of America, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese and many others.
And we must thank all those who have helped and respect those who have been fighting since the beginning. Because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, their children and the security of Europe.
These are simple things, but they’re good to remember at times like these, that’s all.

Llttledrummergirl · 28/02/2025 20:49

Starmer hasn't spoken yet. He needs to step up, and step up quickly.

Can we get Zelensky to meet the King tomorrow?

Notonthestairs · 28/02/2025 20:56

Certainly any hope that the UK can be a bridge is finished.

There was a way for us to tip toe through this - clutching the bloody vase - but not now.

Trump's reality TV show 'diplomacy' means nobody sensible will want to be tainted by association.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2025 22:04

The PM has spoken to Presidents Zelensky and Trump tonight. Number 10 spox says:

Number 10 spox says: "He retains unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine."

Number 10: “The Prime Minister looks forward to hosting international leaders on Sunday including President Zelensky

Oh my goodness! That was just awful. Trump and Vance had Zelensky cornered like a bully in the school playground and the onlookers shouting for their team. ( don't you have a suit)
I know Trump is a person that needs to be bigged up and "managed" with compliments of how "fabulous " he is.
Vance, I really dislike - maybe irrationally but I think he should be more suited as a commander in Gilead.
They were hideous today.
Can't wait to see how Farage/ Truss / Braverman wear their MAGA caps from now on.
WTAF!

Can confirm that UK-based far right and conspiracy theorist/anti-vaxx Telegram networks are absolutely pumped about what Trump and Vance did to Zelensky in the Oval Office

They are celebrating it as public "humiliation"

The current excuse for the Trump & Vance reality bullying show is that it provides cover for Zelensky signing the mineral deal everyone expected him to sign earlier today (the Times certainly assumed it was a done deal yesterday - no humiliation required).

Which obviously dresses Trump/Vance up as diplomatic genius rather than what they actually are - frat boys with a world stage.

Former PM Boris Johnson wants to remind us "that the US and Ukraine are on the same side".

Oh good.

He has recently had a trip to Ukraine and feels guilty perhaps that he told them dig instead of striking peace in 2022, which would have been better for Ukraine?

At this stage I'd honestly like Johnson's comment to carry some weight.
If he were able to do some good then fuck it - unleash the Boris.

But no. The US isn't an ally - they are a Putin first country now. Their fear of China is greater than their fear of Putin and they are quite prepared to throw all of Europe under the bus.

Amazing - it's like Baldrick's "I've Got a Cunning plan" school of diplomacy.

Next week, Putin, Trump and JD Vance go head to head for a three way glow up. Most beautiful two face wins

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2025 22:51

They just mentioned this on The Last Leg

Trump thinks Zelenskyy needs to be nicer to Putin, the criminal who invaded his country unprovoked and killed hundreds of thousands of people for no good reason. Incredible.

There is nothing irrational about a dislike of Vance. This is the twat who will be president in the event of Trump having an elderly terminal episode.

All of the major U.K. party leaders have now issued statements about the Trump-Zelenskyy fallout except for Nigel Farage.

He has been tweeting tonight but not about this.

"He has been tweeting tonight but not about this."
Silence isn't golden. It's cowardice and money.

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2025 23:31

Zelenskyy just did an interview on Fox News

Thread here

https://bsky.app/profile/paulbrand.bsky.social/post/3ljbjhqpwls2f

A visibly emotional Zelenskyy says he is not “mad” with Trump, but talking about ‘a million losses’ and Zelenskyy being a ‘dictator’ it is very difficult for Ukrainians to hear.

“Nobody wants to forgive Putin. It’s not funny or a fairytale. It’s real life”.

No Victoria Derbyshire on newsnight tonight, but a batshit crazy maga loon. I'll look for the clip where she threw out every Putin propaganda idiocy in about 30 seconds. She sounded deranged.

Llttledrummergirl · 28/02/2025 23:51

This is the start. We were aghast at the stupidity.
