Half a relief in Germany. If the firewall stays in place and nobody works with them.

You forget the "fake news" strategy of creating so much distrust in the electoral system that any undesired result is going to lead to serious cries of "rigged".

Look at the narrative building in the UK at the moment. The vast majority of the dim (which is really he vast majority) are already expecting Nigel Farage to be PM before the next series of Strictly. With their own ignorance of the UKs political system being no barrier whatsoever to their feelz.

Alexandra2001 · 23/02/2025 17:40

At least in Germany, only 20% vote for the far right, over here its more like 45% if latest polls are to be believed...

PandoraSox · 23/02/2025 17:46

142 seats. How depressing.

You’re not wrong.
I’m hoping they turn out to be such shit representatives (both in Germany and here) that it never happens again.

There's going to be a lot of nose holding in the the coalition necessary to outvote them.

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2025 17:57

Afd performing worse that polling predicted.

I doubt they will have any policies. Much like the GOP their job is to paralyse government.

Someone on "The News Quiz" (I can't remember who) pointed out that Farage is "Mr. Diagnosis". He will precisely tell you what is wrong and then completely avoid any suggestion of a treatment. I am sure we've all known doctors like that.

Yes, that is a little bit of comfort. I think the polling was 25%, is that right?

I think that a fair amount of people who respond to those polls have never set foot in Britain.

I think it was around that %

As it stands 80% of German voters didn’t vote extreme right.

Die Linke (the Left) are doing much better than predicted.

As an aside - and I’ve had one published in here- I’ve tried to put an 8mage on another thread and it now says ‘your images are currently under review’ not just a generic ‘images are under review’. Odd.

PandoraSox · 23/02/2025 18:23

Keep fingers crossed that AfD do a bit less well than the exit poll predicts, in a similar way to how Reform was predicted to get 14 seats initially.

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2025 20:12

Merz wins - and AfD will NOT be in his coalition

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 23/02/2025 20:17

And thank fuck the Vance and Musk support for AfD made no positive difference

Odd for the Express to (albeit indirectly) criticise Trump ?

Seeing that I would assume the automatic headline generator had malfunctioned and meant to say Meghan.

That'll be a lot of incels, then.

Evenstar · 23/02/2025 22:31

Very interesting and rather alarming to see those figures @DuncinToffee the number of young men at their rallies was noticeable.

I had literally just said the same thing to DH @PickAChew

What an odd article. It’s just gossip and conjecture, doesn’t even pretend some kind of anonymous source. I mean, I know it’s the Express, but even so…

Yep totally without context, far more critical of Labour/Reeves, ignored the borrowing that the UK has been doing for many years... under the Tories.... & the stuff directed to Trump was almost non existent.

Typical 'Express rubbish.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2025 08:22

Trump and Musk replace Taylor Swift who replaced Megan/Prince Harry etc.
All headlines will now reference either Musk or Trump regardless of the topic.

Russian oligarchs with links to the Kremlin can now be banned from the UK, the government has announced as part of a fresh sanctions package on the third anniversary of Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
