This popped up in my insta feeds - it’s a comedy set but I think makes a point and a good point for the UK as well:

Interesting article on trying to appropriate Judeo-Christian values

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/feb/22/judeo-christian-values-uk-populists-mix-faith-politics

However:

Not all evangelical Christians share the same political views. Tim Farron, the former Liberal Democrat leader who resigned in 2017 saying the role was incompatible with his Christian faith, said the use of the term “Christian values” was sometimes “a proxy for things that aren’t very Christian at all”.
He said: “People who talk about the loss of Christian values often have actually lost touch with Christian values themselves. It’s really dangerous when political parties seek to appropriate Christianity for their own ends.”

Interesting article cake.
I think the evangelical aspect of the Arc conference was a bit overlooked. There seems to be quite an odd alliance with fossil fuel companies that I suppose must stem from the US. *

I do find it amusing that Badenoch claims 'cultural Christianity' but one of her specific criticisms of the Lib Dem's is that they are the sort of people that fix the church roof.

As if fixing a Church roof is worthless.

Newsnight just interviewed the deputy of the AFD. That was scary and she didn't have the depth of thinking to comprehend what she was saying.

She wants to send Afghanistan women back to Afghanistan because there is no war there.

You know that the AfD and the smelly bros in charge of the US have gone too far when Le Pen is trying to distance herself from them.

That's very interesting.

I hope all regulars here are aware of the JustStopHate campaign to make sure companies with reputation are aware their ads are appearing on GBNews ? With the rather pleasing effect that a lot of companies won't touch GBNews with a bargepole.

We know this because GBNews have labelled JustStopHate an extremist organisation.

Anyway, it seems doyen of MN Marks and Spencer have decided their core demographic is the GBNews audience. Personally I haven't used M&S for 15 years (which is another story). However that didn't stop me dropping them an email.

Tim Farron is an OK Christian, I think

I don't find him an OK Christian and am much happier with LDs now Davey is there. I also don't like the Wee Free element of the SNP.

Looking at some parts of MN they may well be on to something.

I'm a bit Shock about M&S, given the Jewish ancestry of the business.

prettybird · 22/02/2025 11:07

I think Liz Truss is in denial about sticking her head in the sand as to exactly who is treating 1984 as an instruction manual HmmConfused

I think that profits tend to be put above ethics in all companies. Given the past history of Hugo Boss I wondered about this when it happened - but maybe 'ancient history' excuses it?

And their very public DEI campaigns.

Off topic, but a poster received CSA images via a PM last night. Be wary!

Thanks for highlighting this @PandoraSox CSA images were in links again in PMs

PickAChew · 22/02/2025 12:36

You can set your DMs so that no-one can initiate a conversation with you. I did that years ago thanks to too many weirdos.

PandoraSox · 22/02/2025 12:37

Yes, I have blocked PMs now.

Saucery · 22/02/2025 12:40

Blocked PMs too. Hardly use them (last convo was about a year ago) so better miss the occasional chat than have CSA material on my phone.
