Hi,

Just curious as to when you started sitting in the front passenger seat when you go out as a family, after having a baby?

Obviously it's different if you're actually driving. But for those that don't drive/allow someone else to drive - when did you start sitting in the front passenger seat again?

DD is 14 months and I sit in the back together but I do sometimes miss sitting in the front with my partner as I feel as though the 'room mate' phase has extended to car journeys too.

Not sure if I'm being selfish but just curious!

On the way home from the hospital, I get car sick in the back!

Cadenza12 · 12/02/2025 15:42

Straight away.

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/02/2025 15:42

I can’t remember ever sitting in the back seat except maybe on the first drive home.

I sat in the front seat on the way back from hospital both times, didn't occur to me to sit in the back 🫣

HotCrossBunplease · 12/02/2025 15:44

It never occurred to me to sit in the back. I guess because I was out a lot just me and the baby so I was obviously in the front to drive.

Tell me, does the baby’s father sit in the back when you drive?

user11290 · 12/02/2025 15:44

Oh dear perhaps there's something wrong with me then 😂.

Now that I've sat in the back for fourteen months would DD feel neglected/lonely if I sat in the front?

Sorry stupid I know :/ my brain is riddled with anxiety when it comes to things like this

We don’t have a car so I’m not sure why you’d be sitting in the back - is it because you want to keep an eye on the baby in their car seat? If so, would one of those mirrors help to reassure you that they’re OK?

littleluncheon · 12/02/2025 15:46

First baby 3 months, 3rd baby probably 3 days!

HotCrossBunplease · 12/02/2025 15:47

Oh goodness me, this post is the very definition of PFB. You’ll look back on this one day and laugh OP.

I drove home from the hospital with my husband next to me, though there are little phases where having someone in the back to poke them awake or entertain them is useful.

But don't worry about the "rod for your own back" type comments. I'd try it out with a fun new car toy and see how it goes.

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/02/2025 15:47

I never sat in the back. I did have a mirror though that meant I could see baby in the rear facing seat.

strongswan · 12/02/2025 15:48

It wouldn't have occurred to me to sit in the back, always in the front. Although I do have very lovely memories of my Nan sitting in the back with me when I was collected from primary school, bless her.

Bythewayimgoingouttonight · 12/02/2025 15:48

I never stopped.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 12/02/2025 15:48

Never occurred to me to ever sit in the back with dd when she was a baby.

I do know people who did. Each to their own.

JustCuttinAboot · 12/02/2025 15:48

The day they were born!

FindusMakesPancakes · 12/02/2025 15:49

No, she won't feel neglected. Presumably you sometimes go out without someone else driving and she is alone in the back then?

Borgonzola · 12/02/2025 15:49

We did a long journey at 6 weeks and I sat in the back with her then but not really after that. A couple of times I did when she was 1+ as we thought a long journey outside naptime might mean she got bored and needed entertaining, but both times she was sick and we concluded that her looking sideways at me instead of backwards was the cause, so didn't bother after that.

When I brought my newborn home the other day I sat in the front because there's now no room for me in the back!

WickWood · 12/02/2025 15:49

My baby is 4 months and we always sit in the back, me if my partners driving or my partner if I'm driving. If I have any other passengers in the car they always sit in the back with the baby too. Would never occur to me to not do that at this age!

Sayshesheshe · 12/02/2025 15:49

Baby is 4 months and I haven’t sat in the front once. In fact we’re in the car and I’m currently holding their hand as they sleep.

Same, didn't even cross my mind tbh

mismomary · 12/02/2025 15:50

You have sat in the back for fourteen months? I only do this if DC are unwell.

Uppitymuppity · 12/02/2025 15:50

Haven't ever sat in the back with any of my dc unless there was cause for it, didn't realize some people thought this was a thing!

wipeywipe · 12/02/2025 15:50

I only sat in the back on the way home from
hospital.

Reugny · 12/02/2025 15:50

You can get a mirror to put on the seat the baby is in so the driver can look at them through the rear view mirror.

My DD used to like looking at what was in front her, singing or falling asleep. I did have to tell her to be quiet a couple of times in the begining.

Springflowersmakeforbetterhours · 12/02/2025 15:51

What an odd thing to do imo!!
