Need a character from a book that wears a comfy tracksuit

Or jeans and a hoodie? Any ideas?
I’m a secondary school teacher and some new young enthusiastic English teacher wants everyone to dress up for world book day. I don’t want to piss on his chips, but I also do not do dress up. If I can do a cosy ‘costume’ everyone will be happy?

Joe wicks?

Jeans and a red and white stripy top, wheres wally

Not an expert but I seem to remember the parents/adults in lots of children's stories dressed as you describe. It would be difficult going on a bear hunt in a space suit or ballgown. Or buy a Gryffindor scarf and a chopstick on Amazon and call yourself Hermione.

Could you wear pjs and go as a child from the Polar Express?

WhamBhamThankYouMham · 11/02/2025 21:19

Horrid Henry

Joe wicks?

Okay so a female, short haired, white character? Unless I could get away with Joe Wicks without a wig or stubble or anything.

Maybe I could just wear my normal clothes and be a geography teacher?

If your tracksuit is all black, plait your hair, make a fake bow - Kaniss Everdeen

Big fluffy white onesie and a second hand pocket watch - The White Rabbit from Alice in wonderland

Jeans, check shirt, hiking boots and an empty backpack - Cheryl Strayed from Wild

My DD read a fantastic book called Run, Rebel at school where the heroine is the best runner in her school. The play version has her in a tracksuit for most of the play. It's a popular KS3 book.

And there we were in our primary school senior leadership team meeting tonight deciding that we weren't going to ask the pupils or staff to dress up this year for world book day, as it's so commercialised now. And parents who have little money feel they have to buy a superhero outfit on Amazon just for the occasion.

FWIW, I used to wear jeans and a jumper and put 3 saucepans on a belt.

Write a load of words on a plain cheap white t shirt and go as the Oxford English dictionary - wear with your joggers or jeans.

Our school does "cosy world book day" - come in pjs and dressing gowns, or whatever normal clothes you feel comfy and cosy in.

We aren’t asking the kids to dress up. Normally odd socks day is my limit on dress up!

Horrid Henry. Or Sophie from BFG?

Martymcfly24 · 11/02/2025 21:25

Last year we all wore black tracksuits and painted/cut out a Mr man or little miss and hung it from a ribbon around our necks. So easy.Kids had to guess which one we were. (Matched our personalities!)

Charlie Bucket (chocolate factory Charlie). Jeans, polo neck tshirt or shirt and a sweater.

Where's wally is the easiest option

Annielou67 · 11/02/2025 21:54

Stig of the dump?

Annielou67 · 11/02/2025 21:57

George from the famous five.

minipie · 11/02/2025 21:58

Look up Jacqueline Wilson characters and see which one’s outfit you can most easily replicate. They are all in jeans/jumper type outfits (except Hetty Feather and other period ones)

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/02/2025 21:58

Sophie from Sophie's adventures wears normal clothes with wellies - but you'd need a snail.
Blue or orange tracksuit - Bingo or Bluey.
Depending on your wardrobe - either parent from "We're going on a bear hunt"
