Need a character from a book that wears a comfy tracksuit

Or jeans and a hoodie? Any ideas?
I’m a secondary school teacher and some new young enthusiastic English teacher wants everyone to dress up for world book day. I don’t want to piss on his chips, but I also do not do dress up. If I can do a cosy ‘costume’ everyone will be happy?

However, I think you should go as Mrs Trunchbull. That way if your irritation with the enthusiastic young English teacher spills over you can pass it off as method acting.

HotCrossBunplease · 12/02/2025 09:25

I’m guessing you don’t teach English? I get that not everyone is comfortable in a costume but please don’t let your irritation show to the pupils, maybe really lean into the idea that a lot of book characters are indeed just normal people so that’s why you’ve chosen normal clothes? It’s a real challenge to get some kids interested in books and rolling your eyes about it will really undermine this guy’s intentions.

Asking teenagers to come in PJs may result in outfits which are not appropriate for school.

It's primary. The secondary schools here don't celebrate it at all.

Secondary PE teacher here; I wear black kit, carry a (modern) broom and say I'm Madame Hooch, the PE/broomstick teacher from Harry Potter.
PS I give the broom back to the site manager after registration :-)

I got the impression that the OP is a secondary teacher.

Yes but the specific post I quoted in my reply about cosy world book day was talking about their primary school

Which is why I quoted them Hmm

I am fully supportive of the English department, I’m not an English teacher but teach geography and SEN and teach reading interventions so very much pro our kids as readers, I’m just not into dress up! As ever I will not be remotely critical of my colleagues in front of the kids.

One of the PE instructors from the Cherub books.

Miss Trunchbull is brilliant. You could have a lot of fun with it as well. You might need some bovver boots.

Im a preschool teacher, one year for wbd i wore a green tee shirt, borrowed my dds green bucket hat with a frog on it and I was the frog from Dear Zoo.

PlumpHobbit · 12/02/2025 21:46

Someone from Twilight? They all seem to generally wear normal clothes

Hermione when they are out searching for the horcruxes/ not at school- if you really cared enough you could carry a little bag like her beaded one they take with them for their stuff while searching

Some of the crime stories I read if they're of certain rank they don't wear uniform all the time. Could do a fun activity for the students where they "solve" the crime to see what book it is - clues could be in different continents or whatever they're learning in geography currently

I also don't do dressing up AT ALL so sympathise 😂

letsfaceitwhoisnt · 12/02/2025 22:41

@wonderstuff I know, I accidentally dress as her most days!

Toddlerteaplease · 12/02/2025 22:51

Where's Walley

Vitriolinsanity · 13/02/2025 19:06

Our head wears a black trouser suit with the white shirt and tie askew and a Superman t shirt underneath, like she's mid-change.
